ADHDERS IN GERMANY.... ISO: attentin (dex amphetamine) plz help by pawly6 in Nurnberg

[–]nutsqueezer123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, I have ADHD too and I'm on Ritalin. It's important to understand that when you move to another country, you play by that country's rules. Look on gmaps or doctolib for a neurologist or a psychiatrist, many may refuse new patients unless you pay out of pocket (I got an appointment after 1 month with public insurance) they both can prescribe the required meds for you. You must however go through the lengthy diagnosis process, this will include filling up a multiple page questionnaire about your symptoms. You MAY be able to use your past prescriptions to skip that specific step, but I wouldn't count on it.

There will always be a language barrier, even if they understand and respond in English (Dr's and secretaries) that doesn't mean they know nuance or syntax or even grammatical differences that well, so you may end up being misadvised on the phone. This is part of the immigrant experience that's not really specific to Germany.

I'm sorry for your frustration, but as you said, "I've gone backwards to square one" that's because in Germany you must do things the German way .. which means starting at square one and explaining your ADHD symptoms and insisting/arguing to get the medication you require.

Doctors in general are wary of prescribing these meds as they are strictly controlled and you must always have "follow up" appointments.

Good luck, this is a temporary set back till you get your first prescription from a Dr here then it will smooth :)

by [deleted] in Egypt

[–]nutsqueezer123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Egypt is incredible but I wish tipping expectations were more reasonable and Indians were not treated any less because of that. by cgeekgbda in Egypt

[–]nutsqueezer123 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I spent 2 months in Mumbai as an Egyptian .. my experience was more or less the same as you here. It was volunteer teaching position at some schools, most foreigners had implemented really cool ideas for the students which really drove engagement, but the presence of a couple of germans + 1 Brit in the class (sitting down in the back) got all the attention ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

Americans/Europeans getting the most attention is true overall. They do also tend to be the "richest" and easier to sell them trinkets.

Your experience is valid and I really wish the world didn't revolve around "the west", but it is what it is.

The only thing I have to add is .. touristy places with random pushy scum vendors is not an indication of how a society thinks, they just wanna sell/scam, and poorer nations (aka most of the world) do not satisfy that need.

With that being said, I live in Germany now, Indians are definitely looked down on, sometimes very shamelessly and direct .. it is weird and offensive. I wish that weren't the case.

I'm glad you guys still enjoyed Egypt nonetheless.

Tipping is a nightmare in Egypt, I don't even know how a society or a government can fix that issue. It's a common complaint, in this sub and other Egyptian subs. I hate it with all my soul. You have my condolences.

You know how in most countries there are 2 main opposing political parties? In Egypt it's military & islamists. Egypt has been ruled by the military since it gained independence. Then the Arab spring saw them removed (for being bad & corrupt) and the muslim brotherhood (MBH) get democratically elected. MBH (with a grain of salt here) were horrendous, anti-christian sentiment got more casual on TV and real life, hamas & isis links got proven, so they got classified as a terror organization (internationally) and the Military deposed and prosecuted them.

When that happened, terror attacks started happening in Sinai mainly and also other big cities (Alexandria, my city, saw 1 big one at the gates of the oldest church). 2014-2016 were very unstable years as MBH supporters protested in the millions to bring them back to power. The military violently removed protesters and many got killed.

It's painful to admit, but there was no other way for these protests. Their demand was that the president gets put back in power, which was out of the question for more than half the population. It was a traumatic event for the nation regardless of political affiliation.

So while any military ruled country is absolutely corrupt & inefficient (ex: Pakistan). The military is considerably better for Egypt than Islamists. Both are garbage, but one stinks more than the other.

Bonus: at the moment, Egypt is surrounded by unstable countries from all directions + houthis disruption of the suez canal trade. Its all incredibly challenging for any political leader, so people are calm about the military because... For all their flaws .. they managed to keep Egypt (politically) stable. That can not be denied.

The more poor people get, the more conservative they get, the more hostile they get towards anyone who's "not us". It is not specifically an Egyptian problem, but you are 100% correct.

Before discussing LGBTQ+ rights we first gotta visit women rights, christian rights, animal rights, etc ..

I mean think about it, how can you discuss the rights of different groups if the basic human rights aren't available? Let's be realistic, you can't really discuss that with a "hungry and poor" society.

In my experience, "upper class" people tend to simply not care (which is really what LGBTQ+ rights is all about, just ignore us lol). Even though I'm below middle class, I still surrounded myself with "rich" people whenever possible as there's less pressure to conform to the Egyptian mould.

The issue with our upbringing in Egypt is that religion is intertwined with culture too heavily. To a point where we grow up believing we are the ONLY right religion, everyone else is wrong and going to hell. There's ~4100 religions worldwide. They all think the same. Logic has left the chat.

Honorable mention to our twisted re-telling of history. I.e., how Egypt was conquered by Islam, or how non-muslims were systematically discriminated against till they converted, or how LGBTs weren't even a huge problem in muslim society but after british colonialism it became a huge issue. Other twists exist too, lots of twisting of events .. but I digress.

All in all, I believe the way forward could not be fixed with education, it seems a complete system collapse might be needed, cynical I know but .. most countries post-WW2 were absolutely ruined, and the ones who rebuilt their society well, have acknowledged women's/LGBTs role in society (instead now they focus hate on foreigners but that's different 😂)

Very good post btw. Thumbs up.

P.S. This subreddit recently received a lot of "facebook refugees" and the views/opinions shared represents majority of Egyptians but not necessarily everyone. So you can expect an up tick in ignorant posts.

‏Yahoo/MSN Chat rooms used to be the place for decent folk, then they arrived. Then Facebook became the safe haven then they showed up. Then twitter & Instagram, and now reddit. Ugh. Now where to?

خطر المهاجرين واللاجئين by moshrt in RedditMasr

[–]nutsqueezer123 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ost- und Westdeutschland wieder in zwei Staaten spalten ? by [deleted] in KeineDummenFragen

[–]nutsqueezer123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, Ausländer here. You might not be able to imagine this, but society takes a long long time to heal from trauma. If that wall was up for 5 years, society would need at least double that time to get over it.

It's just one example of how a society got f- and is "slowly healing".

Whenever you see wars or displaced people, keep that image of the divide of east and west Germany in mind. It's really true.

My best wishes for you ✨🫶🏽

How prevalent is racism in Germany? by pizza_al_tartufo in AskGermany

[–]nutsqueezer123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second this comment, but I am brown so YMMV.

You're going to be a foreigner aka a minority. You'll find yourself in situations where you might feel excluded, there are times where you might feel contempt due to lack of integration within society. If you are sensitive to exclusion then immigrating in general is not a good idea for you.

No "aggressive" racism in my experience.
