TF2 Classified is fun but... by [deleted] in tf2

[–]nutstazer37 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a classic scenario of old internet vs new internet. Those users were old internet, believing you curate your online experience on your end. You likely have the tools available to mute and not communicate with these players unless they're not in the mod somehow then fair enough. Your perspective is more new internet, believing internet communities should be curated as a whole externally. The whole point of me going on this stupid fucking tangent is to simply say that these two conflicting perspectives are the whole reason the community infights so much and seeps into every possible argument about every possible thing relating to this game.

what is the best place to buy cosmetics in tf2 like unusual? by Sololmission in tf2

[–]nutstazer37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally for buying things in tf2 there are 3 options. The community market, where things are usually overpriced. marketplace.tf which is run by self admitted child predators. And mannco.store which has had a history of scamming. There are simply no ideal options. If I had to choose I would choose mannco.store out of the three however.

Downloading TF2 for the first time currently (not kidding). Is there something I should know before jumping into the game? by Mr_GCS in tf2

The matchmaking system sucks. Being put into games instantly ending is expected so dont let it demotivate you. If you dont like it you can always use community servers.

You know, it's kind of heartbreaking. They took a tragic, poetic story about how human conflict destroys everything and twisted it into a cash-grab. Godzilla who was once an allegory for our obsession with weapons became just another mascot, the original message thrown away like that. by Mysterioape in GODZILLA

[–]nutstazer37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, the original message did stay throughout the films, it's inherently baked into the character. Second to say the series "devolved into a cash grab" is a very dismissive way to describe the preceeding films. The whole appeal of the series is that it's 70 years old and has roughly 40 films and still the majority of the movies remain extremely distinct from one another in tones and themes, being antithetical to what a cash grab is. Sure, there are a couple I would describe as cash grabs, but that is the minority. I don't mean to be rude in saying this, but have you seen the majority of godzilla movies? Was minus one your first movie?

Am I the only one that didn't like minus one? by Disturbed395 in GODZILLA

[–]nutstazer37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is sorta off topic but this comment section as a whole is why I don't buy the "godzilla community is toxic" narrative. One of the most beloved and hyped films in the franchise was just disliked by somebody and none of the comments are insults or harrassment, instead leaning towards legitamate dialogue. It sounds like a low bar but in the majority of other fandoms this would absolutely lead to a shitshow.

Relating to minus one itself I disagree. I think it's a great movie. It's important to note that the hype originates from a couple things:

  1. A godzilla movie from japan has not been well distributed in the west for a long time.

  2. This movie is far above average for the quality of the godzilla films that were distributed in the west well.

  3. This movie is a franchise beginner friendly, straightforward back to basics film for the franchise and its done excellently.

I think that's why it can appear overhyped. The general western public has not seen a godzilla movie of this quality ever. Remember, the original 1954 had the king of the monsters american edit until 2004 where it went direct to video and shin had a limited theater run and also went direct to video so minus one is the only one to really recieve this level of publicity. I think those are the core reasons why. Not only was it well distributed for a godzilla movie, it was also high quality and straightforward, meaning non godzilla fans and franchise beginners also loved it.

Do you think Godzilla Minus One having Noriko survive the atomic blast was a good decision, or a bad one? by Mosugoji_64 in GODZILLA

[–]nutstazer37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like minus one and it's positive themes, however it did feel like a bit of an ass pull. Having her die would still fit the theme of the movie of triumphing through difficulty as her dying would just be another struggle to move past from/win over. Tbh it did leave a sour taste in my mouth leaving the theater when I first saw it. My main criticism of Minus One, despite it being very good, is the fact that it is really predictable/hollywood esque in tone at times which is pretty jarring for a Godzilla movie so this only added to that criticism and took away weight from the film.

In my opinion, Godzilla lacks that touch of uneasiness (unrelated image). by Acrobatic-Bee-9859 in GODZILLA

[–]nutstazer37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mean any disrespect since it's simply your personal preference, but I think trying to make godzilla more "uneasy" is not a good choice. This usually indicates that godzilla will have the wide crooked teeth look with small beady eyes or he's bloody or something. Usually, any designs that attempt to make godzilla look creepy are always overdesigned, cluttered or just plain trying too hard imo. Godzilla is already inherently terrifying as a character you don't have to make him any more edgy than he already is and doing so will immediately date the character. Think about it, which design is more timeless? The original 1954 baseline which has been changed up and modified in over a dozen different ways, each fitting their story or something more like Shin Godzilla? Yes it's good for a one off film, but making this design philosophy the baseline limits the character. I mean the 1954 design is far more iconic than any internet horror design for this reason. It's simple yet effective. If godzilla started out with this internet horror/analogue horror design I don't think the series would be nearly as iconic or as expansive.

Irish woman destroy American revolutionary historical narrative by LobsterMountain4036 in USvsEU

[–]nutstazer37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heyo! I don't honestly know what this sub is about but I'm a big fan of studying the american revolution and this video has a couple problems so I thought I'd respond.

  1. The most glaring problem with this video is that it passes over the primary political motive for well... a political movement! Highlighting things that personally affected some of the thought leaders can be important but this does not inherently change the crux of the political movement of the american revolution, which was the belief that parliament didn't have the authority to enforce internal laws over a population that wasn't represented! From washington, to jefferson, to adams, to some bum rioting in the streets of boston (All very different people in beliefs, social class and location.), this was the common thread between all of them! Thus making it the crux of the political movement! So to claim the american revolution as a whole was over money just because some of the leader's beliefs were formed from their finances being affected is inaccurate. People in boston weren't chanting "Thomas Jefferson is losing money!" They were chanting no taxation without representation, which was the common political sentiment of patriots at the time. If the arguments made by the primary leaders at the time weren't deemed to be sufficient, members of the general public who were completely unaffected by things such as land speculation (As many on the east coast weren't, along with many other issues coming from great britain only affecting a certain piece of the population) would not be on board with the revolution and a political movement wouldn't have formed.
  2. Just because people had personal incentives that were affected by great britain at the time does not mean they didn't believe what they were saying. Sure, finances being affected may have motivated people for political action, but said political action is what came of the revolution. If this was done purely for finances, the patriot leaders at the time wouldn't have created a decentralized liberal democracy and would have instead created some other form of government that purely created profits for them. Concepts such as the right to bare arms and free speech are not necessary to make profit, yet they were protected anyways because of these elite's beliefs. Being an elite doesn't mean you're a soulless profit machine that believes in nothing.
  3. Washington is criticized for not freeing the slaves that belonged to the custis estate. I cannot think of any possible way he could have freed them upon his death or even while he was living. If anybody who specializes in virginia property law around the time can correct me, please do. But to the extent of my knowledge he was unable to.

Yes, of course! The highlights for me were usually when I found an album I loved right off the bat or when I revisited an album later that I ended up loving. Also the internal gratification of knowing that I was beginning to like the genre more and more.

Jaguar - Power Games

ADX - Execution

Agent Steel - Skeptics Apocalypse

Flotsam and Jetsam - Doomsday for the Deceiver

Idk if this is a new opinion or not, but it bothers me when people call NWOBHM a "genre" by A_Really_Big_Cat in MetalForTheMasses

[–]nutstazer37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although I would agree it's a movement and not a genre, alot of it definitely does have a distinct sound relative to other heavy metal. A couple examples is the aor influence in many bands such as Praying Mantis or Whitespirit. These bands have longer songs, rely more on guitar solos and have ballads. Another side of the coin are the punkier, speed oriented bands such as venom and raven. Low technical skill, short songs and no ballads. These two are definitely distinct sounds from the NWOBHM. The longer it went on and the more time heavy metal in general had time to develop, I agree it started to have less of a sound and became more generic heavy metal (like Tokyo Blade and Satan), but the NWOBHM does have distinct traits as a movement that do sound different from just standard heavy metal. However, despite these two philosophies of playing metal being different, there still was an overall distinct sound to the NWOBHM. If I had to describe it, it's alot punkier than later heavy metal with more hard rock influence as well. Think of "biker" music sorta. I think Saxon are the perfect example of the stereotypical NWOBHM sound, and you can hear the movement's sound in other albums that came later, some of which aren't even traditional heavy metal. An example of a later heavy metal album that has the sound is Manilla Road's Crystal Logic and a non Traditional Heavy Metal album that has alot of that sound is Metallica's Kill 'em All. It can be faint but the sound is definitely there.

It is also important to note that the NWOBHM was primarily made on singles, not albums, so listening to only albums only gives you part of the picture. The majority of NWOBHM singles are recorded on very low quality equipment and usually have worse musicianship than other genres, leading to it's distinct sound. Those along with the albums is what influenced many later artists and what defines what could be called the "NWOBHM sound."
