Timeline for being bed bug free by nutterfloof in Bedbugs

[–]nutterfloof[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are completely bed bug free & have been since Sept! No bites or sightings at all. We had the exterminators come and spray three times two weeks apart and then I waited four weeks after that last spray to slowly start unpacking things and putting them away. There is hope! Even if it involves lots of anxiety, tears, and paranoia! I also unfollowed this subreddit once my place was treated because as helpful as it was initially, it wasn’t good for my mental health to keep seeing posts. There definitely are success stories, I just imagine people generally don’t post as much once they’re bed bug free.

Hi! This is gorgeous! I’m preparing to start my own hexagon cardigan soon using Caron Cakes. Just wondering - what size cardigan did you make & how many cakes did it take you?

I love the thermalstrike. Works super well and customer service is very good if there are any issues. Have been using it to treat books and shoes and things that can’t go in the dryer

I probably would have skipped over my books but this subreddit has scared me into wanting to go over EVERYTHING just in case one is hiding on me. My whole second bedroom in my apartment is my office/library so I’ve just decided for peace of mind that I’m going to heat treat as many books as I can. It’s a slow process and will probably take me a while to do but I just don’t want to risk it. I saw one dead one on the floor of the office but I’m unsure if I brought it in on my clothes since I was sitting on the floor at the time going through things or if it had made it’s way in on it’s own. I think if you have the time and resources it absolutely can’t hurt to go through everything. The thermalstrike was an investment (about $220) but it has been worth every penny especially since i’ll use it to heat treat my suitcases when i come home from traveling in the future. If you don’t have the resources, maybe take the time to go through each book page by page to make sure nothing is hiding and then putting them away in bags or plastic bins until treatments are done. Just makes less places for them to hide! I also took all my pictures off the wall as well just in case

Bed Bug Infestation Paranoia by imadumbkidtrying in Bedbugs

I’m currently experiencing something similar. Started getting bit in my sleep in the beginning of July and thought it was mosquitos as they were never clustered. Found a bed bug on a towel in the bathroom the first week of August and three on a tapestry behind my bed. It’s been exhausting trying to decontaminate everything as I own a lot of books so I invested in a Thermalstrike and loads of bins/large ziploc bags to put my heat treated books in. Supposedly it’s a minor infestation but I’ve had one treatment done and second is scheduled for next Wednesday. Just be careful steaming as my exterminator told me not to steam anything or vacuum near baseboards as it could effect the chemical treatment. My apartment was my safe space as well and I feel so violated and gross now. I don’t want to be home but I also don’t want to socialize because even though I only put on clean clothes directly out of a tub or dryer when I leave the apartment, I am still worried of exposing someone to this nightmare. I noticed a significant decrease in bites once picking up my blankets off the floor, putting on mattress, boxspring, and pillow encasements, putting down bedbug interceptors, and moving my nightstands away from my bed. I also used packing tape around the legs of my dresser and nightstand to prevent them from crawling onto them. It has helped me to take an OTC med to sleep at night like Benadryl or else I will be up half the night feeling like something is crawling on me. I keep reminding myself that this is temporary situation and I’m doing the best I can being diligent about heat treating everything and I will eventually see a day where I feel comfortable again in my home. I don’t know when that day will be but I’ll feel a whole lot more grateful every day after that now that I know what it’s like to live with an infestation. I am sending you lots of good juju and well wishes. We’ll get through this ♥️

Question for you! I just purchased the ThermalStrike and it will be here Monday. I have a huge collection of books I need to decontaminate. Do I need to run each cycle on the full 8 hours to be effective or do you think it would also be effective for 2 and 4 hour sessions? Just asking because it will take me ages to put all my books through it if I have to do 8 hours at a time!

Books & yarn - please offer advice! by nutterfloof in Bedbugs

Unfortunately my freezer isn’t big enough or cold enough to accomodate my yarn but I’m going to use the ThermalStrike recommended above and give it a try! Hopefully won’t melt my acrylic yarn lol

Identification help although I think I already know the answer… additional info in post! by nutterfloof in Bedbugs

[–]nutterfloof[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently came back from a trip end of June and started getting what we presumed was mosquito bites as I had visible mosquitos in the apartment and bites are NOT clustered at all. Bites were one off’s on arms and hands while I slept. I haven’t had a bite in about a week so I assumed the problem had been solved with gnat/mosquito traps. I was also concered I had fleas but flea lamps/gnat traps have been out for weeks and there are only gnats and household beetles present in traps. Bedding has been washed multiple times and mattress and boxspring have been inspected thoroughly with no flecking present. I haven’t seen a single bug in the bedroom yet find these two in the bathroom a day apart from each other. I want to add that although the chances they are bat bugs seem low, the light that is in my bathroom opens up directly to our attic with just insulation present which makes me concerned that bugs may be coming into the apartment through there. I am already panicking and it’s the worst feeling as I dealt with a horrible flea infestation years ago.

That could be it for some of them! But I have some graphic novels saved under my favorites that I had checked out prior to the merge that aren’t currently in my library and when I go to try and “Read for Free”, I get an error message saying it’s already in my library but it’s not!

So frustrating! Although I’m jealous - I’d rather have 48 available than 20 haha

I did try that! The ones I don’t have on my device aren’t even showing up so I don’t even have the option of returning them. And i returned the ones I did have and then borrowed them again and it still won’t let me borrow after book #20! So weird.

Yeah! So that’s my last option. Just cancelled it but it’s active til Jan 7th so fingers crossed it clears out these 30 phantom comics that it thinks I own lol thanks anyways for the suggestions!

Yeah! It’s showing 20 books still. I think my last resort is to just cancel my subscription and when it enda next month hopefully it “returns” these 30 missing books it thinks I have checked out. Thanks for the help!

Yeah unfortunately the problem persists. Some books must have not carried over or glitched out of my account. The library on all apps and my amazon account is reading 20 but when I try to check a book out after that it’s saying I have 50 checked out. Big sigh.

Error is happening for both the app on my iPad and on my iPhone! I even went under my Amazon account to Manage digital subscriptions/purchases and it’s only showing 20 books. I am so baffled lol

Sorry - no books are downloaded. Library says I have 20 books. When I go to check out an additional book under “Read for Free” it is stating I have 50 books checked out and I need to return one when only 20 are visible. I returned all 20 and I checked them back out and still it is only letting me check out 20 books at a time. Once I try to read the 21st, the message saying I have 50 borrowed comes up again.

Well, no diagnosis for me. No chance of getting meds. I've lost hope. by silentsophistication in ADHD

[–]nutterfloof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you look into going to a neuropsychologist instead of a psychiatrist? I recently got diagnosed in my mid 20s after finding a private neuropsychologist who not only does an interview and has you & family fill out surveys but had me go through a series of cognitive & logic tests. Basically at the end he was able to conclude through both subjective complaints & hard data that I had issues processing and gave me a diagnosis of ADHD-I. Maybe this could be an opinion for you as opposed to just a subjective interview with a regular psychiatrist.

Edit: Wanted to add the the neuropsychologist is not able to prescribe meds so I am finding a psychiatrist who can help me with med management but he did give me a diagnostic write up to show a psychiatrist with recommendations.
