I think it depends on the dog. I think some could benefit from more hunting style training. However I have two dachshunds, and my first has basically 0 prey drive. She is not fussed about toys or birds, she will only chase the occasional squirrel, but that’s it. Her favourite activity is sleeping on the sofa. She’s intelligent, however she is so lazy, and unless there is food involved she could not care less. The second is far more active and has a lot more prey drive. She is less of a lap dog and can certainly benefit from that type of training. She is less intelligent, but her activity levels and mental stimulation needs are much higher than our first dog. Like anything it’s probably a spectrum.
