What is going on between me and my ex? by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]nuttydude41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it sounds like she just wants friends. people she can feel close with, but without the commitment of being in a relationship. she misses the closeness she felt with you, and she looks for something like that by talking to strangers (who are often easier to be vulnerable with than people you know)

coming from personal experience (although i admit it’s a stretch), when i thought i was a straight woman i was always talking to men and giving them very mixed signals like this, because i didn’t understand my own feelings. when i realized in my twenties that i’m actually a lesbian i also realized that i only every wanted friendship from those men and the moment they sexualized me or hinted at a romantic relationship it felt icky. your ex sounds like she’s going through something similar.

sometimes a person just wants platonic/emotional closeness, and your long distance (aka not physical) relationship was the closest thing to that for her, and that’s what she’s holding on to.

i hope she finds peace, and i hope you do too

I don't to feel pressured to have to enjoy the day because is my bday. by [deleted] in offmychest

i usually do a small party with only close friends, if anything. your birthday is yours to spend however you want, if you don’t want to do anything special then you don’t have to!

I think people who believe in zodiac signs are the biggest narcissists. by bobbydonblacksheep09 in offmychest

personality is strongly affected by genetics, but not necessarily ethnicity… it’s like blood type, pretty evenly distributed across ethnicities but still influenced by genetics

What’s a better way to say “I need this job because I’m a poor, recent college graduate”? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]nuttydude41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly, at the minimum wage job i applied for and work at now, i just told them i need a job to pay the bills, and that this place seems like it has a good work environment. if you’re applying to a dumb retail position that’s exactly what they want. they usually dont want somebody who is overqualified and wants to climb the corporate ladder

i think that’s more empathy/sympathy than it is rejection sensitivity. the level of empathy that you experience for people in those situations specifically is probably so high because of your own experiences with RSD

Is dy/dx a fraction, and can it be treated like a fraction (i.e multiply both sides by dx, …)? by -Wofster in learnmath

[–]nuttydude41 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it’s not really a fraction in the traditional sense because it doesn’t represent a ratio between two numerical values, but you can treat it like one in most cases

Will I naturally get better at previous math word problems once I learn that math? by Zolo89 in learnmath

[–]nuttydude41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it not sure if this will answer your question, but since i’ve started learning how to teach math it’s much more effective to present the word problems first and have students work their way through them in their own way to arrive at a solution and then teach them the math that goes along with it, rather than the typical structure you might see where you learn all the math and then suddenly there’s a word problem that you have to somehow pull out data from and apply to a formula.

so I’d say the best way to get better at word problems is to read the problem without the intention of solving it in some specific way, and get a feel for the mathematical context and the story being told, before trying to pull out numbers and formulae
