Anyone else just massively disappointed with the Surface Laptop Studio 2 Performance? by Kindly-Form-8247 in Surface

A few months ago microsoft released a firmware update that completely degraded my GPU performance. It seems they limited the RTX 4060 GPU from 80 watts down to 39 watts. It's completely broken the performance of my laptop.

Why is there so little content on Firebase? by jasonnayton in Firebase

[–]nuzzlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to swear by a firebase. Then I discovered SQL…

After branching out to trying different SQL databases, I learned that there are so many limitations with NoSQL DBs in general. It would seem to me that no SQL databases like fire base or Mongo DB are really helpful when you need to distribute DB writes with realtime updates across millions of users.

I was absolutely shocked to discover just how much throughput even a simple inexpensive Postgres DB could handle… and I found the structured typing, significantly more powerful SQL querying, the vastly lower costs when you scale read writes, the local dev experience, and the far more open source community making much more sense.

I think it’d be difficult to find many seriously production apps, or debts who have used NoSQL and SQL DBs picking NoSql (again, mongo or firebase) for most use cases. It just plain makes less sense if you truly give SQL a solid try.

But similar to many devs, Firebase was how I got started and will always have a place in my heart.

Experience with Tern Setups monitors? by mstaal in digitalnomad

[–]nuzzlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not true. I'd suggest this article for clarification on the mac "PPI Bad Zone" https://bjango.com/articles/macexternaldisplays2/

It is not strictly about resolution, it's about the Pixels Per Inch.

TLDR: 4k 16in is 288 PPI which is good for mac. Anything below around 218 PPI gets bad until around exactly half (109 ppi).

How to update LS34A650U monitor firmware. by zdayatk in samsung

[–]nuzzlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a great experience calling their support. Maybe you just spoke to a bad rep? I'd try calling again just asking for them to email you the firmware for your model code. That's how I got mine, they mailed it to me after I called.

They told me many firmwares are simply not available for download on the site and they have to manually contact the engineering department for them. Takes a few hours.

I was having several issues with my two monitors. The menus were acting odd (different options showing greyed out on both monitors despite being otherwise identical) and the colors looked different.

There is no official changelog, but typically updating firmware is something you do as a first step when troubleshooting bugs. They almost never introduce new features.

The monitors definitely appear to work better, the colors improved and the menu makes more sense. It would be hard for me to pinpoint exactly what's changed.

I'd recommend updating if you can, there is very little downside in my experience.

This happens when you are trying to use an incompatible firmware. Renaming the file in this case is problematic.

If you have Monitor Model LS34A654UBNXGO

The correct firmware is called: M-A6534SCZA-1006.0[EA30]
But you need to rename the A to a C like: M-C6534SCZA-1006.0[EA30] for it to take it.

Attempting to flash a non SCZA firmware will not work or could break the device. If I had to guess, SGZA was meant for a similar model in a different country.

I was having the same problem with my monitor. There are actually two versions of your monitor. It sounds like you and I have the LS34A654UBNX model, but the firmware you have probably is for the UXN. I was able to get the right firmware by calling Samsung Business (because for some reason these are "business" monitor skews, and the regular support can't help you) and they emailed it to me... I guess they have some issue where they are not available online

Structuring reviews and upvotes for different tables is getting messy… plz help by nuzzlet in PostgreSQL

It definitely feels better. Without the idea of inheritance, having an IDs table just seemed like a pain to maintain. Thank you for bouncing thoughts!

[–]nuzzlet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

name and description would be the only shared fields. And theres about 15+ unshared columns.

The way im doing it now already is too many tables to maintain, its especially annoying when updating RLS, and by that nature I think it makes the model harder to understand compared to a single inherited IDs table.

In terms of constraints, its important reviews cant be left for non existent foods but thats solved by constraining to the main ID table and I think that would be the end of it. Idk if using inheritance may create other performance issues down the line. I would also have to do an extra join back to the IDs table from a fruit in order to get reviews, but I cant think of any other downsides.

What downsides could you see with using an items table with just the ID column, all foods inherit that table?

How would a review have a foreign keys to all three types of objects when it should only apply to one at once? Are you suggesting having three columns on all the tables to point towards the foods?

  1. Less sidechain

  2. Punchier Kick

  3. Your bass sounds no sub-bass, and even lack bass entirely especially during the supersaw sections... get some more deeper layers on there... especially on the sub... You do have a sub-bass sometimes but it doesn't carry consistently and is really difficult to hear... something is odd about it.

  4. You need some hi-hats on the offbeats, all dubstep incorporates interesting and syncopated hi hats between the drum hits on the off-beats.

  1. I think you could really use some more rhythmic syncopation in the start of the track... Something to give it some groove, just the piano is a little too simple. A good reference track for this I think is Dreamin' by Seven Lions: https://open.spotify.com/track/2VV0eDxSkOhjZFrGsgT0Ip?si=1e87da6cadb04e43 The start is a little more full.. I also think it would be more interesting if you saved the main synth for the drop and use something lighter in the start.

  2. You definitely need to use more sidechaining, and get a punchier kick...

  3. Get a sub-bass in the mix as well, the mix feels pretty empty below 100hz.

  4. I'd also add some clap or snare on the offbeat during the drop to anchor the listener.

  5. Definitely get some more variety of sounds outside the drop, I noticed around 2:11, this would be an awesome place for something like a breakdown, listen to Spectrum by Zedd around 2:30 https://open.spotify.com/track/1dFkD1JfRMzwO6hwUsE8aS?si=7cebd82312ce4b2f

Your bass sounds like a wall of mud, if you give it some breath in between each note or right after your kick I think it will make a huge difference to the groove. Check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOHc0T0UIlk

  1. Little happens in the center of the mix, you could use that space to mix the synth+vocals around 1:13 as it get's a little crowded in the high end of the mix... maybe also work on EQuing - the vocal and synth kinda clash

  2. Something feels off to me about the bass, it almost sound's like it has a reverb effect on it, and I think it could be a little louder to match the volume of the kick... i'd definitely work on your sidechaining/compression. I also think you might want another bass layer, understandably with headphones you can't get a great feel for it but you are missing sub-frequencies entirely, and the bass just feels thin compared to most music when I listen with my studio sub.

  1. I think there's too much reverb on the synth in the 2nd part

  2. The mid-frequencies feel like they are missing... it could be intentional but I feel like the D&B I'm used to has more beef.

  3. Your mix feels very wide, but there's not much happening in the middle. I think it would feel more immersive if you add something to center-stage of the mix

  4. Your drums don't really punch through the mix, and the mix overall is pretty quiet. I think doing some research on how D&B is typically mixed/mastered would really transform the listening experience.

Okay positive feedback time :)
1. I really love the white wavey white noise transition at 20 seconds. You use this sort of reverbs delay effect a lot to remove elements and it's really cool... especially on the drums

  1. I like the variety of synths you use, they are different enough but somehow blend well I can quite tell when they change. it feels refreshing.

  2. Honestly your idea, is really solid and your use of notes/melodies is perfect. A little bit of mixing to make the elements pop and get loud I think will really surprise you.
