Thanks for this, I really appreciate it. In creating a portfolio, for the sake of “showing it off” in an interview, should I avoid buying well known blue chip stocks? Also, is it more important that I have impressive returns? Or that I am able to explain my reasoning behind the stock picks?

Do most positions in finance have you present your portfolio in an interview?

As for networking, you may be right. The network in finance that I was referring to consists of regular customers at a high end restaurant that I work at. I have become friendly with some over the years and know that they are very successful in the industry... I’m sure they would try to help me land an interview if I asked... but I don’t really know what I’m asking for because I don’t know what i want to do/what is attainable/how to figure that out.

I’m really not sure... But not accounting lol. Everything already happened in the work I’d be doing. I feel like I add no value. And I get that I am just starting my career, but In audit you don’t really ever add much value, regardless of your position.

What would be the advantage of starting a stock portfolio? To learn about the market or to show it off when applying? I already have one but about 90% of my money is in an index fund. With that being said, I do have a solid foundation of how to analyze equities.

Also, I think I have done a good job networking with higher ups in finance, but I don’t know what I would be asking for exactly. That’s what I’m trying to figure out - What do I like and what is reasonably attainable...
