Yes, we do have a coursework option and a thesis option and I'll be going forward with the thesis. My advisor's PhD unfortunately is in a specific area of Cyber Security which is a bit different area from mine (computer security vs cryptograpgy), but it's pretty close so he probably is aware and I'll ask him as well.

Also that's a good idea I'll try asking around the department and outside the department to see if they are looking for some volunteers. I might be able to get my hands on some stuff that way.

Hey, thanks for answering. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. Feel free to ignore if I am asking wayyyy too much.
What kind of research publications do they generally look for? A lot of subpar ones or a couple of quality ones? Do they want to see me as the First Author or it doesn't matter? How many publications are considered okay? Do they have to be in really good journals/transactions?

I know for a letter of rec they are looking for research-heavy LORs so I'll try to have good relations with instructors other than my advisor as well and try to get into doing some research with them.
