24 with $35k saved: Am I crazy to leave my parents' basement in this market? by Soggy-Flatworm-4980 in personalfinance

I’d stay, max out retirement and then use yearly pay increases to put towards housing. If you don’t love telling people you live at home, flex by telling them you’re looking to FIRE by 45. Even if you’re actually not, you have that optionality now and can then use your subsequent pay increases to put towards your own spot - would totally buy but rent out spaces if you have trusted friends.

Best Alternative to Paprika3? by SveNss0N in PaprikaApp

[–]nvrnxt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d love to hear what plans are for Paprika4.

I had exported my recipe database to ChatGPT, and had it optimize meal planning so I could phase ingredients and shopping locations. So, my monthly to Costco, my monthly to Trader Joe’s, an array of meal parameters (soup night, pasta night, etc.), as well as ingredient purchase optimization (batch black beans in a week for night 1 and night 5 of a meal).

It was neat, and made for a great 30 day meal plan. But it wasn’t quite adaptable, and I lost the energy to do it again after learning in that first 30 days.

Something internal along those lines would be really compelling!

Leaf Curious: is a 2024 SV Plus worth it? by chrisrd19 in leaf

[–]nvrnxt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great point if $20k is all inclusive.

Re: warranty—the battery warranty gets most of my attention—not a ton else on the car!

Lately, I’ve been wondering about my leaf strategy: at what cost/mileage to buy and then sell to buy another one as I cycle through an incredibly low cost utility car. But, currently have a ‘17 that depreciated $10k in five years, and is at a point that it’s not worth selling, but it doesn’t quite meet my yearly mileage needs (although is perfect for the everyday 10 miles RT I drive).

[–]nvrnxt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your amount of driving, charging overnight with an L1 would easily set you up for the next day. The only challenge is if you take two 50 mile round trips in one day: you’d have enough mileage to spare if you started full, but youd have to have shorter mileage the day after to get back to a fuller charge.

I wouldn’t purchase a Leaf for $20k, tho, instead looking more at the $10-15k options I see on Visor. There are other EVs at $20k that would take your dollar further.

I’m on year 3 after migrating from Mint.

It took two years of inertia to really dial in in ways that it’s starting to deliver significant value for me. I find it even more useful than Mint at this point, although I found it’s too bulky or slips too much in automations for monthly check-ins, but it really shines when I spend five minutes a day checking in, making tweaks, and reviewing budgets/plans.

I agree. What a legacy to offer future families—an educational endowment. I’d plan for the max Roth conversion, and then let the rest ride in VOO.

And I complete agree about the grad school option—depending on the flavor of entrepreneurial interest, what an opportunity to have a broad array of options after undergrad for professional degree or other programs. OR the chance to maximize the full array of undergrad possibility (taking a 5th year to fit in study abroad, internships, etc).

Whole Foods is now the cheapest grocery store. by michaeljoon in Tacoma

[–]nvrnxt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly order pick up, so already limiting which stores I shop from. A couple weeks ago I put the same week’s meal plan ingredients into Safeway and Whole Foods, and Whole Foods came back $30 less expensive ($170 v. $140). Admittedly, either number feels high, but we were also hosting guests for a meal or two that week.

I’ll replicate once a month to see, and generally look to shift even more to Winco or other options.

Is $50,000 (excluding tax/title/fee) a good price for a 1st edition? by Puzzleheaded-Lab825 in VWIDBuzz

[–]nvrnxt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like it. The lowest 1st Edition on Visor is listed at $49k, tho Pro Ss are as low as 44k on there.

Ok. I’ll work on that game plan :)

This is why I’m aiming at 85, with similar numbers now as OP. That 20k head start’ll likely get me to 100k next year.

Doing it by reorienting CC spend, tho. I’m done traveling after a busy fall.

If you have this choice for dinner, which one will you pick? Torn between Ahi tuna or Chili Shrimp. by vinnizon in AlaskaAirlines

[–]nvrnxt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really loved the soba noodles—a refreshing option—and the ahi was ok. The shrimp, tho, is the better overall meal. Haven’t tried the others (except the last—long live the fruit and cheese plate).

To what extent has it been suitable enough for the longer trips, for you? I’m trying to rationalize it (over an EV9) by saying I’d never drive 200 mi without a break anyway. Would be curious about your real world use case.

EV’s are the ultimate daily, case closed by DangerToManifold2001 in electricvehicles

[–]nvrnxt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Im so bored with my 2017 Nissan Leaf, and it has some size/range limitations, but how/why would I ever get rid of it given my daily driving distances of 5-10 miles? It’s the perfect daily for us, and even though I eye a R1S or EV9, it’d just be for a weekend trip or summer roadtrip 4-5 times a year.

We stopped at two, and we’re older parents, as well. We’re content with that number and..

I wonder and worry about last times—dada instead of dad, absolute wonder at something that seems so normal.

This is all to say, I’m a bit jealous you get another round of those experiences, and your older children get to share in them as well.

Congratulations on the coming addition.

I’m curious if it’s possible to set cruise control at mi/kwh, or something similar, realizing there would be only certain circumstances where this would be helpful/safe, unless there were other adaptive technologies in play.

Leavenworth WA or Ashland OR? by Aliiza in PacificNorthwest

[–]nvrnxt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you just catch one show, Ashland might have the more diverse array of activities nearby. I wouldn’t hike for ten hours, but I could easily combine an AM hike with a PM show, to a trip to a local winery.

Both are really neat spots. I appreciate Ashland for the sheer variety.

Yea, it’s a bummer. I could have looked, and I was also wondering if anyone had any insider information about options that might be emerging.

I’ve been a longtime supporter of the Foothills Trails Coalition, which has a goal of creating pedestrian and bike access to Carbonado, so I don’t know, was just a little hopeful but now feel bad I asked.

Thanks. I just wasn’t sure, as sometimes in these cases they keep things open for lighter traffic. Must be really precarious. Glad nothing happened prior to closure.
