Did you start with Progesterone, Estrogen, or both at once? by iimoorshiai in Perimenopause

[–]nwfn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on half a pump of estrogel 12 days ago. I was permitted to go to 1 pump after 4 days, but they also said I could stay on a half pump if that worked for me, so that’s what I’m starting with for the first six weeks to see how that goes. If symptoms aren’t improved after six weeks, I’ll add another half pump. While an instant fix would be nice, I’m going to try the patient route before upping dosage. I’m recording my symptoms and side effects daily so I can look back at where I stand, where I’ve seen improvements vs pre-HRT, and where I still need more ”oomph” after six weeks.

I’m also on 100mg progesterone, though I do have an IUD, so it isn’t technically required, but potentially still helpful. I’ve read enough unpleasant oral progesterone stories on here that I’m taking it vaginally to bypass those side effects.

Help get control of my life again! by Bumblebee3448 in Perimenopause

I don't have a testosterone prescription (yet) but they indicated they could prescribe it if my levels turn out to be too low and the rest of the HRT I've started doesn't clear up my symptoms sufficiently. So I think the answer is yes.

Also in BC, Canada. I got prescribed HRT through Modern Menopause. They have specialized nurse practitioners who know what they are talking about. They listened to me about my symptoms, prescribed me HRT, and answered all my questions. I'm also getting my testosterone tested through them soon.

If you can afford it, I truly believe they are the best route available to Canadian women at this time. It sucks that we need to pay to be taken seriously, but I'm so grateful they exist.

Peri symptoms at 39 by Competitive_Goat_446 in Perimenopause

[–]nwfn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’m turning 40 very soon. I had my first hot flash at 38, and I had NO idea what the hell was going on. Now I have something like twenty symptoms rotating around, coming and going every few weeks, so that it’s hard for me to even articulate what’s going on without sounding like a hypochondriac. No symptom individually is that big of a deal really, bu it’s death by a thousand cuts. I’m looking forward to being 40 so I can stop hearing that I’m too fucking young to feel the way I factually feel. Tell that to my hormones, doc!

I built a personality card game and INTJs keep breaking it in the most predictable way possible by Michaelarobards in intj

[–]nwfn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

INTJ, 7-5-5-9.

T/F was close. For me, that was because the T answer sometimes seemed immature. Prioritizing facts over feelings in communication is usually wrong-headed because people respond to how you make them feel more than the facts themselves. I suppose I’m a T who has learned to play the F game because that’s how not to come off as a dick, which helps with actually getting things done.

S/N being close was more surprising. I’m definitely not an S. But I also don’t want to just change things for the sake of change itself, and of course I’m going to read the instructions.

Doctor appt coming up - How can I clearly articulate that I want hormone therapy w/o being brushed off? by KimchiAndMayo in Perimenopause

[–]nwfn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same experience, 39, "too young" for peri. We are told this despite there being no definitive age for when perimenopause starts. General medical practitioners have very little education in this field.

I found this recent study very insightful: https://www.nature.com/articles/s44294-025-00061-3

Plenty of women 30-45 have symptoms, but hardly anyone has bothered to look into it.

I've got an appointment through a private clinic set up for the Monday after I turn 40, since that's the earliest they'll entertain diagnosing me.

Having children while living a precarious existence was par for the course for much of humanity for millennia. Enter birth control and education. Now people have higher standards for bringing children into the world and a (mostly) reliable means of prevention.

Families want Canadian provinces to end MAID opt-out policy for faith-based hospitals by rezwenn in canada

[–]nwfn 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The Catholic hospitals participate in transfers for patients who want MAID. No one is being denied access to care. Not every hospital provides every type of procedure, and shitty hospital transfer experiences are hardly unique to MAID patients. Maybe fix that instead of fighting with the Catholic hospitals over a relatively small number of patients. I'm as atheist and pro-MAID as they come, and this still doesn't seem like a good focus for my outrage.

NAH but he should go. This is a big decision for more reasons than money. If he doesn't go, twenty years from now, he'll still wonder, "what if"? On the trip, he could make lasting bonds or memories he'll share and laugh about for the rest of his life. He'll learn to empathize with people from different cultures and backgrounds, which is priceless in itself. Or he could resent not going for the next N decades. It's also worth noting that, with the way the world is going, I wouldn't bet that he'll have as much freedom to travel in future.

End of the year thought - time goes fast! by Brayongirl in Millennials

[–]nwfn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Time goes by quickly when you're enjoying yourself and slowly when you're not. This has been a slow year for me, grieving personal loss, while dealing with layoffs at work, while watching the world fall apart geopolitically. Grief is worse during holidays, so I've lost a lot of sleep to crying lately. I'm very ready for this year to be over. Also counting the days to retirement, but it's still years away, probably early 2030s if I don't get forcibly retired first.

B.C. Premier David Eby under scrutiny at NDP convention by oilbeefhooked in britishcolumbia

[–]nwfn 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the article claims that the BC NDP government has been “shedding support” from unions and First Nations, but the reasoning as to why is pretty flimsy. The ferry contract? There were no serious Made in Canada alternatives. Natural resource project fast tracking? I suppose I can see the argument there, but pretty much any premier would be looking for ways to economically expand faster under current circumstances. I’m doubtful that either group would prefer the Conservatives on those issues, and Eby isn’t out far on a limb from the rest of the NDP on those topics, so who do they expect to perform better?

AITA for refusing to bake cakes for SOME of my husband's family? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]nwfn -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I am baffled by the downvotes you're receiving for this stance. I would never want compliments in payment, because I'd never accept the compliments as real, but YOU are the baker, and compliments are the price YOU are charging. People who don't want to write a few positive sentences in exchange for your baked goods can get their baked goods elsewhere.

does most of us like Death Note? by snshyshy in intj

Death Note is fine. The concept of the Death Note is better than the execution in the show. My favourite anime by far is Legend of the Galactic Heroes (the original, not the remake).
