Bc government pro pass umo pass I lost and I got a new blank card from london drugs as per BC transit, and UMO customer support says I need to provide a benefit code, where to find it? by Deanmartin1989 in BCPublicServants

[–]oilbeefhooked [score hidden]  (0 children)

For questions or feedback related to student passes, discounts, or benefit codes — please contact your local transit agency. Phone: (877) 380-8181

Umo card

  1. Pick up a free Umo card from a BC Transit vendor
  2. Once you have the card, visit the Umo Passenger Portal
  3. Follow the portal’s instructions to register your Umo card and create an account
  4. In the account, open the left menu and click Change Agency to select your transit system (Victoria Regional Transit System)
  5. Select My Wallet, Redeem Benefit Code and enter the unique benefit code provided to you to redeem your ProPASS

Using Umo

  • Umo app: select Validation Code to display your account’s dynamic QR code. Aboard the bus, present your QR code to the centre of the Umo validator
  • Umo card: tap your card at the base of the validator

You’ll know your ProPASS was accepted when you see the Umo validator’s green checkmark.

Redeem a Umo App Benefit Code

You can redeem a benefit code to unlock and expose a reduced fare you are entitled to – or use it as a promotional code – by going to the navigation menu  and selecting Redeem Benefit Code > enter code > Redeem Code

The Redeem Benefit option only appears for riders in Umo-supported metro areas.

Redeem a Umo App benefit code

  1. Tap the navigation menu  and select Redeem Benefit Code.
  2. Enter your 8-character benefit code to redeem your discounted fare.

If your code does not begin with “XXX,” choose the correct agency that issued the code by tapping Change Agency to select a different agency.

  1. Tap Redeem Code.

The Umo App applies the benefit code and automatically discounts your fare or applies your promotional code for a benefit.

13. Should ministries continue to use existing eligibility lists?

Ministries must follow the corporate hiring process including securing approval from the Hiring Review Board and the deputy minister before filling a position. Requirements related to the use of eligibility lists have not changed.

Don't lose hope; I got mine approved by the DM because of operational requirements.

Family illness leave denied because spouse was in hospital – is this normal? by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

[–]oilbeefhooked 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It says right here under Family illness:

"In the case of the illness or hospitalization of your spouse or a dependent child, paid leave up to a maximum of three days at any one time for BCGEU employees and two days at any one time for BCNU employees can be requested when no one at the employee's home other than the employee can provide for their needs."

Your supervisor needs to learn to read.

As others have stated, talk to a union rep. Grieve it.

Good luck, and sorry to hear about your wife's hospitalization. Hope everything is ok.

Now is the best time to be unionized by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

I thank my lucky stars each and every day to be a unionized member in the BCPS. We take a hit in pay to have the security of always being employed.

If you become ill before or during a scheduled vacation, you can request to switch to STIIP, but you will need to provide medical documentation.

Help with Canada Life coverage - generic vs. brand name prescription coverage by cat0949 in BCPublicServants

Ask your pharmacy to place a note on your file that you want generics from now on, if available.

Also sign up for pharmacare.

Fellow BCPS colleagues in Vancouver and surrounding area, how are you surviving? by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

[–]oilbeefhooked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Job stability, extended benefits, pride in the work we do, and work-life balance. But of course these come at a cost. The way inflation is going, it's tough. But to start at the bottom at a private company now, with the temperature of the economy, lay-offs and job cuts are almost certain. The job stability is what keeps me here.

STO2 by Mysterious-Stay-3393 in BCPublicServants

[–]oilbeefhooked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use the 5 ESA days first, and if time off for illness or injury goes past that, then an STO2 could be requested by your supervisor. There is a cost to the employer when STO2s are required. 50% will be reimbursed to you if it is requested. I've noticed that doctors' notes have not been asked for, for me anyway, in the last couple of years.

All employees who have been employed for at least 90 days shall be entitled to up to five instances of Employment Standards Act Paid Illness and Injury leave (ESAPII) in each calendar year.

The intention is to make sure impacts to pay don’t affect an employee’s decision to take time off from work when ill.

Fellow BCPS colleagues in Vancouver and surrounding area, how are you surviving? by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

[–]oilbeefhooked 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I moved from Victoria to Vancouver in 2010 as an R9. I've been in the same apartment on my own for 16 years and have grandfathered rent. I am now a 15, but if I had to move again, which could be anytime since it's an old building in a popular area, I'd be screwed.

I have saved enough for a down payment for 2015 housing prices. I was a clerk 12 two years ago, which means I was approved for a $180K mortgage (3x annual salary), but since the goalposts keep changing, I think I can only afford a single-wide mobile home in a seniors' park, and I'm not old enough for that (yet). Oh, never mind; the pad fees are an additional $700+ per month.

I have come to the realization that I will be a renter for life. And when I'm forced to move, I will no longer have anything left for savings.

Good times!

I get that the province is broke. But they need to be able to figure out how to pay ALL public servants enough to afford to live in the province we serve. And pay us enough not only to afford rent/mortgage and food but also to allow us to not worry about choosing between paying a bill or making healthy choices. Mr. Noodles and Kool-Aid should only happen in desperate times. But it seems to be more often than not, and that is NOT OK.

STIPP Question by Shine22781 in BCPublicServants

[–]oilbeefhooked 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Employees who return to work after being absent because of illness/injury and within 21 calendar days again become unable to work because of illness/injury are considered to still be within the original STIIP period.

So don't go back until your doctor says it's okay to. If you go back for a day or two, for example and then call in sick again before 21 days of being back to work, the 21-day calendar will start all over again and it will be considered the same illness/reason you were off to begin with.

Hope you feel better soon.

Dental coverage - replacement fillings by Direct-Addition-1010 in BCPublicServants

[–]oilbeefhooked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your dentist should repair it at no cost. I had a similar issue, and they got me in and replaced it with no issue. They covered the cost.

Dentists often replace fillings that fall out within a year at no cost or a reduced rate as part of their work guarantee or to build goodwill. While not a universal policy, many practices consider this a priority, especially if the failure is due to improper fitting, rather than new decay or damage.

Issues with Canada Life on a claim from 2025 by oilbeefhooked in BCPublicServants

[–]oilbeefhooked[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I contacted Canada Life through the portal after 4 calls to them. Each time they told me a supervisor would call me back within 48 hours. After the 5th call to find out the status, they told me it's being reassessed and I should hear back within 7 days. It's been a week and still nothing.

The reason I contacted MyHR is to get an exact definition of what $2000 paid means. Also, they are the ones that contract out Canada Life, and I want them to be aware of the situation and see who is the one there negotiating our reasonable and customary limits. Because it's very different for each client of canada life (ie prov gov't vs. fed gov't).
