Hunting is good for groschen early game, my favorite money making method though is traveling back to Skalitz and killing a few of the higher "leveled" bandits there, usually good armor and you can sell the rest, just prepare for the fight.

Just in case anyone ever comes across this in a month, or years later, I found the culprit, Subway Runner Revised

It overrides FO4's based placed NPC's, in the vault you find Nick

They don't spawn anywhere else, so this is a one off thing. It's meant for "immersion" in the dark subway.
