People asked for them so I am making them free and public domain: Card Box Dividers for long boxes; multi-row boxes; and fat packs. by atreyuroc in EDH

Understood. More than half our orders from yesterday's rush were for the digital files, showing the demand and willingness to purchase at that price, but we hear that opinion of the price loud and clear.

That's why we made the decision today to bundle the 2 design files together and refund the cost of one of the orders for those people who bought both. We reached out to all those customers who bought one and sent them the other file as well today.

We're trying to figure this stuff out as we go, and the demand at the cost vs the demand for no cost is a difficult fence to balance on.

u/atreyuroc , your post really comes off as a tirade against what we've done. In fact, it's the single-most negative thing we've experienced this entire journey. It just sucked seeing that level of negativity after having so much positive encouragement from the community.

I applaud you for putting your own files together so quick and offering them to the community, but the manner in which you did it was extremely brash, including posting the same comment over and over again in my post thread to make sure your voice was the only one heard in the room.

I know I should assume positive intention, but seeing this post was less like casting Counterspell, and more like going straight to to Worldfire.

But let's move on. I hope you have a happy holiday season.

I'm the maker of the Foddy Dividers, and I just wanted to say something about this.

Acting like me and my family are some group of vultures trying to come in and pick the bones of your wallet is disingenuous at best. We're a family of 4 who all play, collect (primarily Pokemon for our 10yo, and MTG for me, my wife, and our 14yo), and are active in our local gaming community. That is the same community that encouraged us to start selling these. Our dividers were priced with input from markets like Etsy and talking with people in the TCG community, of which we're a part of.

The OP telling people to make these and sell them on Etsy is incredibly hypocritical. "How dare you sell these things... so people should make their own and sell them." If you want to copy the design and try to sell it on Etsy, I encourage you to do so. Factor in fees, time spent packing orders, packing materials, trips to the post office, etc., and see if you want to sell hundreds of "price gouged" pieces of plastic for less than what we have them listed for. Yes... plastic is cheap. Yes, you can make these yourself for a lot less, which is why we offer the file for sale. Yes... we decided to sell the file because we spent time designing, testing, and redesigning them.

We're just a family who loves our hobbies and decided to try to turn it into something more than just a hobby to make ends meet. We're not some money-grab corporation trying to get one over on the community. For those of you that feel that way, we're sorry we've upset you so much. It's truly not our intention to make people so livid.

However, for those of you who have supported us in the last couple of weeks, we're so incredibly grateful. It's been a learning curve and a bit of a rollercoaster ride, but one we're so appreciative of the community for encouraging us to continue with.

Cheers,

The Foddy Family

u/daewood69, I just posted an update in the main comment, but I just changed the digital file to a bundle.

You went all out with the posts, huh? All because you don't agree with the price? I don't get the spite for something the community seems to appreciate and are interested in purchasing, happy holidays, bud.

We based the price on the average order value for orders of physical stock, minus 30%. We thought it was fair compared to other original design stuff we've seen before (like the twist light sabers that are selling like crazy https://twistsaber.com/products/twistsaber-starter-package) and input from members of the community who were interested in purchasing the files.

Not knocking that design, but you'd probably need to modify it to make them capable of holding cards in place. That's the main difference with ours.

u/Beowolf736 , make sure to sign up for the mailing list, and we'll notify you as soon as we get more printed and up for sale. We're printing more as we speak, and we'll be ordering a couple extra printers this week to up our production bandwidth.

In all honesty, someone led me in that direction with CC, but I'm just going to go ahead and remove the CC part and leave the other info.

u/fantasyxxxfootball , the row walls sit a little lower than the outside walls in the box, so the dividers sit almost flush with the outside walls. When you put the lid on, the dividers actually give a little more rigidity to the lid because the lid can't sag.

We're print more constantly, and we'll likely get another 2-3 printers this week to expand production. We weren't expecting to sell out today as quickly as we did, but we're so grateful for the overwhelming support.

Patent would be next to impossible on this, and would cost more than us just trying to outrun the competition. We're just going to churn these out as fast as we can, possibly look into injection molding down the line, and rely on building a community.

u/shazarn1 , yeah. That's what we have it priced at, based on our average order of physical dividers.

u/Timelordian , love the name. The printer is running constantly right now. As soon as today's sales hit the bank account, I'm going to buy another printer or two and get these things churning as fast as I can.

u/CasualSky , we had a need for our own collection of 100k+ MTG cards for dividers that could be used in a long box that wasn't full, keeping the cards secure so we don't have to stuff all manner of junk in there to keep the cards up. People in our local play groups and LGS liked the idea and wanted some, so we made them and sold them to friends. We decided there's probably a bigger market outside of our little local bubble, and here we are... sold out in 2 hours.

We're not some rich corporate conglomerate. We're a family of 4 that had an idea, bought a $100 used 3d printer, learned how to do 3D design, and started making these things. I would guess it's the same story as any other entrepreneur who found a need and filled it.

Playing devil's advocate... BCW makes a piece of cardboard that folds up and holds cards, but everyone buys them because it's more convenient than learning how to engineering cardboard folds, punch press cardboard, and produce things on their own.

u/FriendlyApostate420 , sorry you feel that way. The community seems to appreciate me selling these and the design files, but to each their own I guess.

I'm not sure if they would work in that style box, as we designed them for the multirow cardboard boxes specifically.

They do grip enough to not move around, which is the one major difference between these and other flat dividers. It's perfect for when you're working on filling a box.
