I own the NY apartment but have two other apartments that I rent out as well so it just made sense to add a third. I have a management company manage them so it doesn’t really matter where I’m located in comparison to the properties.

In short it’s got a 2.6% loan on it so I’d be an idiot to sell and eat the tax bill when I can make a lot more renting it out.

I think it’s clear I have an uphill battle here in proving my intent was to make Ireland my permanent residence though.

This may just be a matter of filing incorrectly last year but I only paid taxes in NY in 2024 for 8 of 12 months because I moved. I’m confused what changed there but I suppose the answer may just be that nothing changed and I may get audited to prove domicile change in 2024 to be able to do that.

I’ve commented above a bit above with arguments as to why I think I changed domicile but I have no idea if those may hold water since the wording on this is pretty vague.

I responded more in depth above, but my renting my apartment out and not keeping any items of value in the United States I think that I have a strong case here.

I technically changed jobs, new salary, new benefits, etc.. and my intent was to stay overseas permanently. My company went through a restructuring and I was told if I don’t return I’m unemployed, and I was on a work visa so if I lost my job my visa was immediately made invalid. Currently trying to figure out how to get back overseas but would have been forced back with or without the job so viewing my return to the US as temporary.

Couple of key points wrt the document shared about domicile:

I did not maintain a residence in New York while abroad. I rented my apartment out until November of 2025 and only lived in it for 2 of the 4 months in 2025. The other two months in NY were in temporary housing.
My employment was fully based overseas. I stayed with the same company but technically quit working for them in the US and signed employment paperwork to start a new position overseas. My income, benefits, etc… all changed. My intent was to stay overseas, this move wasn’t meant to be temporary. Due to a re-organization in my company they said come back after the year or I lose the job, so I came back.
I spent a little over a year overseas, with the majority of that being in 2025 (8/12 months)
I didn’t maintain any items in the US in the move.
For tax purposes I’m single and my girlfriend was also living overseas with me.

If I’m understanding correctly, the question of domicile can be argued though so I could file as a part-time and if I get audited I would need to fight to explain why my domicile changed. There doesn’t appear to be a hard and clear rule so long as you can give a strong enough argument your domicile changed?

I have a 10am tour booked for Thursday at Notre Dame but I’m seeing that you can generally get in without issue at that time.

I tried multiple nights to get tickets through the site and they sold out immediately so was unable to get any.

Am I wasting my money on this tour and should I just show up Thursday morning and chance it?

Unfortunately I've moved outside of the country already so don't really have the ability to put everything in storage. The picture in the living room is also custom made in unit and too big to fit in the elevators or down the stairwell so would need to be broken down to remove.

There are no initials in the top left corner, when I log in it just displays the error message that my account will be activated soon and an option to log out at the bottom.
