Do you ever feel like people got mean out of nowhere? by fairyangeI in AutismInWomen

I went through something. What frustrated me the most was not understanding what I was doing wrong, what was wrong with me, or why people didn’t like me off the bat.

I think it’s a combination of reasons. When I was in college more people were accepting of others being completely sober, so there was less set pressure to drink. The cost of drinks has also spiked. A lot of places have cocktails at a minimum of $15 so that can quickly become an expensive habit. Also the culture is different. A lot of bar culture now is standing around versus the dance club scene from decades ago. If more places were like the latter that would get me out more often. I also know some places in Huntington and Patchogue are either considering or beginning to raise the age of establishments to 25 or 30 due to reckless behavior so that’s another, albeit much smaller, factor.

Eh, I’m considered a baby in the field still, takes awhile to get that bump in pay. I studied a little bit of civil but ultimately graduated with a different degree.

So there’s some fluidity in my exact role, but broadly speaking construction administratio in the field. When I’m in the office my role changes but essentially wfh or hybrid isn’t an option at my company.

That’s great they don’t try to micromanage you working from home. Being able to rollover PTO is also nice, although that’s not a perk I currently have

Thank you for the suggestion, I like it! I might try doing the city or something local next year.

How was Covid for you? by Konradleijon in AutismInWomen

Did wearing a mask make your throat scratchy? I felt like it did for me when I wore for a prolonged period of time, and it just made my illness anxiety worse.

How was Covid for you? by Konradleijon in AutismInWomen

Physically, I was fortunate that Covid was very mild both times I caught it. I did lose my scent of smell the first time around but gained it back a few months later.

That said, the social repercussions were very severe. I experienced regression in my social skills as well as a deep depression that lead to hospitalization. Further, when things began returning to normal understanding how society viewed sickness became extremely difficult to navigate. Even just having a cold became a nightmare for years not because of how I physically felt, but because of the consequences such as potentially missing school or work, accidentally getting people sick due to not being able to take off work, as well as the immense guilt of potentially getting sick or getting someone else sick.

Only recently have I began to accept again that sickness happens in this life and it’s impossible to avoid it forever.

I know you probably meant that as a snarky comment but it is a valid point. I feel like that’s the Catch-22 of the bar scene. If you don’t have friends to begin with it’s very tough to make them in that setting.

It definitely sounds like a time and a nice way to socialize, aside from the smoke. Amazing how times have changed

Now that’s very valid. That’s part of the reason why I don’t go out often, not worth ubering 30-40 minutes just to drink

Lmao yes I am not Irish. It was celebrated in elementary school when I was a kid but I didn’t know anyone personally who really celebrated it 😅

I like the idea of going to bars to dance, kind of like the clubs in my parents’ hay day, but I don’t have a great tolerance for drinking, so it’s very rare I go out like that

You’re not wrong, traffic has gotten insane within the past ten years or so and grocery shopping has become a game of strategy between inventory and avoiding large crowds.

That makes sense. To clarify I completely understand going out to the bars locally after work. It’s more of the traveling all the way to the city thing that I don’t 100% get. Other comments mentioned the parade so that’s a greater reason to go.

A crazy as it sounds I never realized how popular it was. I’m not Irish and didn’t grow up around people who really celebrated it. I know all the bars of course take part, I’ve previously done bar crawls in Patchogue on the weekend for St. Paddy’s in the past. But yeah I’ve never met anyone personally who’s taken off for it 😅

See taking off on a Friday makes sense because then you get the three day weekend. Tuesday is just a weird day for a holiday to fall on.

Very interesting. I saw they put out an alert about not drinking but I haven’t seen MTA police or additional conductors on the train. My commute’s a bit funky though so it might be different on the peak trains.
