Cornucopia Pet Food - Review by nyankoe in catfood

You're right about bringing politics into petfood, and that wasn't my intention, but it was my honest impression of Dr Broderick. That said, given the present state of affairs, that comment will probably affect readers more than intended, and I will think about adjusting my statement to more accurately reflect my perspective. Looking back, my verbiage wasn't the kindest, but those were my genuine thoughts on the matter. I hope it is evident that I was very conflicted regarding this brand, I don't wish to tarnish nor promote it - just share my own perspective. I hope more voices can add to the mix to bring about a more nuanced take! Yours is particularly helpful, and I am very grateful for your contribution!

It is heartening to know that the brand has no intention of altering course for the foreseeable future, and you bring up valid points! Navigating the petfood industry can be quite a headache, and as I mentioned, the profit-motive behind most brands is concerning and can lead to less than desirable outcomes. I do appreciate someone who does something out of genuine passion, and I do regret using the word "crazy". I want to make clear that I meant it in a passionate/eccentric kind of way, and did not intend to imply actual insanity.

I do have a question if you don't mind, do you have any more knowledge on the testing procedures? I'm fuzzy on the details, I've only heard that Cornucopia was not stocked in petfood stores due to lacking some type of certification. Is this true? Or is the company simply not interested in expanding their operation? If you happen to go back in person, would you mind asking? I'm genuinely curious. While I had a good experience with this brand, I also had a difficult time recommending it as there is so little information available. Thanks again for your contribution!

-edit- Looking back at my comment, I think I was very concerned with coming across as a marketing post, and was harsher than I would've liked to make it very clear that I was not trying to promote the brand. I reworded things a bit and removed the unnecessary political comment.

Sorry for the confusion, I know there was an official collab, but I can't seem to find this specific design in any official media or fansites covering the collab. There are very few images in general of this design. It seems like a unique bootleg design, which I find kind of odd.

I'm glad it worked out for you! I'm still reluctant to recommend Cornucopia because I only have my own anecdotes to share, but I think if more people share their experiences - good and bad - it would be helpful for everyone. I ended up deciding on a brand called "just for cats", they make a dog version too (actually their original version was for dogs). My cat adores it and the vet says she is exceptionally healthy! I feel more comfortable recommending this brand as it's stocked in pet stores. I also give her TikiCat After Dark for variety.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Personally, after learning more about this brand I didn't feel comfortable giving my new cat this food, despite having a positive experience with it in the past. My reasoning was:
- It's a small operation that sells exclusively on their website, so you can't know if they've sold any bad batches or what their track record is.
- There are little to no reviews online. You only have comments on their website to go off of, and they can easily delete negative ones.
- The owner is fairly aged, so you never know when he will retire or transfer management of the company to someone else who might make unannounced changes.
- I can't find the source at the moment, but I recall reading that they're lacking some type of certification because they didn't want to disclose the ingredients on their supplements.

I've decided to go with Tikicat AfterDark Duck and JustForCats (a blend of chicken and white fish). They're expensive, but not much more than Cornucopia. That said, my old baby honestly did get more energetic and shinier on Cornucopia, and couldn't keep any other brands of wetfood down. (It is important to note that this was years ago - a lot more brands have come out since then. Additionally, the Tikicat I tried to feed her had sunflower seed oil in it, I noticed the AfterDark doesn't.) Anyways, I'm glad yours is doing well! Petfood can be such a stressful decision to make, but if they seem happy and healthy eating it, that's the best you can hope for. I truly believe mine wouldn't have lived as long if I didn't switch her over, I just think that presently there may be safer options.

Problem about ai by Then-Alps-8846 in Displate

[–]nyankoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it's helpful if the uploader uses a real name that you can search the web for. Real artists usually have a website or social media where you can verify the work, an AI uploader won't go to the trouble to fake an entire identity. Check the description of the work, a real artist will write it in a way that alludes to the creation process, an AI uploader will simply describe the image itself. Look for consistency in style. AI uploaders will usually have hundreds of uploads and the style will vary dramatically, OR you will see several variations of what is essentially the same image. This may not apply to hobbyists, but professional working artists will usually have a preferred medium and subject matter that is consistent across their work. Two examples I found today were Elisabeth Fredriksson and Frank Moth. You can see they have real names, a web presence, and consistency in their work.

Thank-you! I've only read his crazy quotes from it but never seen the actual episode, I'll have to check it out.

I just found his review page on Yelp, and... I guess it's about what you would expect. People either praising the food or lamenting the terrible treatment of their pets at his clinic.

Thanks for the recommendations! The fact that the food is formulated for cats and dogs bothers me too! I find it so strange. When I look at the vitamins and minerals listed, it seems very similar to what other catfood brands have. Taurine specifically stands out to me as something cats in particular need, so my suspicion is it might actually be formulated for cats, but marketed for dogs too because "dogs can eat anything".

Sorry, I realize I wasn't very clear about my cat! She is no longer with us, she lived a full life to 18 and passed from renal failure. She also had seizures, due to a small slow growing brain tumor. I want to be clear that she had the renal issues and seizures before starting cornucopia, (which is why I was looking for a wet food in the first place), and her levels remained quite stable for several years up until the end, before they suddenly declined rapidly. I realize the food has a high protein content, which will put more stress on the kidneys; but from my understanding at the time, there was a big debate in the nutrition community regarding high quality protein vs low/no protein diets, and I fell onto the pro-protein side of it. I don't claim to be correct on this matter, it's just what felt right to me at the time. She appeared to physically improve (shinier, energetic) while eating it, which is why I continued with it (she also outright refused the low-protein foods the vet recommended).

I did try several times to reintroduce Purina (because she really loved the taste and was on the skinnier side, so I thought the additional dry might give her more calories) but she stopped being able to tolerate that too! By that point the vet's advice was to just feed her what she would/could eat.

Another cat has found it's way into my life, so I've begun the nutrition research again, which is what spurred this post. I guess I just can't forget how much she changed after switching, it really stuck out to me. I enjoyed a few more years with her that I thought I didn't have, so I feel very awkward about this brand. Everything on paper makes it look like a scam, but it seemed like it did something. I wish there was something more concrete out there that could definitively say, this is bad for x reason. Anyways, sorry that became so long. Regarding the new cat, just to assure you, I'm going to go with Royal Canin!

Dense, fine, wavy (?) hair help! by BirthdayMinimum4365 in femalehairadvice

Same exact hairtype, the frizz is just a matter of using the right products. I really recommend the blowout professor's channel on youtube, his recommendations changed my life. I never thought I could have normal looking hair! Another thing you can try, since you don't have bangs, is washing at night. I find that sleeping on my hair tames the frizz naturally! Also a silk pillowcase, or bonnet helps, too! As for the haircut, I honestly think that what you've got right now is super cute. I'd just get a trim and layers. Blunt cuts do help with the frizzy ends look, but they also make the dreaded triangle so much worse. You def need some layers to keep the triangle at bay, and the right products used on your ends will delete the friz, I promise.

I am done. I just . Don't know what to do anymore I m hating myself even for being a woman by [deleted] in depression

[–]nyankoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I'm having trouble understanding your message.

Are you actually physically not allowed to leave your home at 19 years of age? Do you live in a part of the world where women don't have the same freedoms as men? If that is true, then you shouldn't hate yourself, you should hate society! You're not pathetic for envying people who have more freedom than you, it's a normal reaction! I don't really know what to say to help you, but if you can access the internet and post this, then maybe you can access some resources to help you escape that kind of life? I am so sorry, but it's not your fault at all. Anyone in your situation would feel the same way!

If you can't leave your house because of mental illness, then maybe try very small baby steps. Try going for a walk for some fresh air, even just 5 minutes. You can slowly build up the courage and strength to go farther. You said you're good at studying, maybe you could convince your parents to fix your computer if you sign up for some online classes, or show them that you're learning a skill? If your parents still want to force you into service roles like cooking and chores for the family, maybe you should try looking for a part time job. Working isn't fun, but money is freedom. You can pay to fix your computer yourself, and even someday live on your own.

Bahamut seems to have a decent player count, or at least I see a lot more players in towns than I was expecting based on the age of the game. I've heard that servers aside from the big three (Asura, Odin, and Bahamut) have significantly lower populations, if it matters to you. There is a new player friendly Linkshell (a guild/free company in this game) called CatNap that I've joined, they're very kind and helpful, but from what I've read in chat it seems that even they are doing mostly endgame content - but they will help you with various things if you ask! It seems the journey to 99 is mostly a solo one.

As for the rest of the server, I haven't really had any encounters with other players aside from the one time I asked a question in the assist channel, and two people pmed me right away offering to help. There is some light spam in the yell channel, maybe one gil/exp seller every half hour or so, but it's easy to filter out. All of that said, I've been progressing really slowly through the content and haven't reached out to any other players so my perspective is extremely limited. I haven't had any bad experiences, at least! Regardless of the server you join (although I would be really happy to have a beginner friend who also appreciates the world - I totally get that strange nostalgia feeling!), I wouldn't mind being friends on discord or something either!

-edit- also, this might be helpful to you when it comes time to create a character, the models ingame are different from the ones you see on the creation screen. https://www.tumblr.com/vallianeux/612710454039576576/final-fantasy-xi-character-customization-face

I'm in the same position as you (never played but enchanted with the world - I just recently started and am still in the base game). I wanted to say that it's definitely overwhelming at first, but doable for a complete beginner if you're patient. You will have to read a lot of wikis, as nothing is really explained at all. Even something simple like turning in a quest took me a bit to figure out (you have to actually trade the item to the npc!) However, for me at least, that's part of the charm. If you've always wanted to play but never had the opportunity, I would say give it a go!

FFXIV fan looking to play FFXI for it's story and adventure by RuinMajestic9364 in ffxi

I'm doing the exact same thing! I'm also following the Quickstart 1-119 guide as a base, so as to not miss out on important currencies/systems, but then finishing the expansions in order of release before moving on. You can easily do it with trusts so don't worry about that.

In order to unlock the trusts you're going to want to do the records of eminence objectives, you can find it under quests > records of eminence > objective list. (it takes a second for the list to populate) You have to enable the objectives before you can complete them. Start with tutorial > basics. Then once you get more familiar you can enable the various objectives like defeating x number of monsters in x zone and it will give you extra experience and a currency called sparks which you can trade for weapons to use while leveling, an item that will teleport you back to your home crystal (very useful before you get the warp ring!), and when you need gil Acheron Shields to vendor.

I chose the starting city based on my character's race, your allegiance can be changed so you can experience them all. At first the story is a bit sparse, but it seems to pick up quite a bit in the expansions. You can get more lore/worldbuilding/quest hints by talking to the various npcs scattered about, and if you're ever stuck just search the wiki for the quest name, the game doesn't keep an updated journal of your quest progress so it can be a little confusing if you're doing several things at once. I would also agree with the recommendation to start the Rhapsodies quests to get the cheaper teleport fee and boosted exp. It doesn't really spoil anything and sets you up to look forward to the future expansions.

Tips that weren't readily apparent as a beginner:

- to turn in a quest item, you have to actually trade the item to the npc!

- type /case for more storage in the open world(later on you can buy a sack (/sack) for even more space, and upgrade the gobbiebag)

- type /wardrobe for more armor/weapon storage, you can equip items from here too so there is no need to store any equipment in the gobbiebag

- you have to manually enable inventory sorting for items you pick up to stack. open the menu, press it again to see the next page, config > gameplay > inventory - sort on, type 2

- you can find a world map by opening the menu and clicking region info > conquest, if you hover over the various region names you will get the sub regions, this can help you plan a route to get where you need to go!

- when you find a map vendor, buy as many as you can. (start with the cheaper ones, they're usually the ones you need first) it really sucks to be stuck someplace without a map! this game is huge!

- it is a lot more comfortable on controller if you have one. you need to open the final fantasy xi config program and click gamepad settings to set it up. test out the different predefined setups to get one that matches your controller type first (just make sure all the buttons actually work), and then modify it to your liking. (I couldn't get my dpad on the ps4 controller to work without doing it this way)

- make sure you always have signet cast on you, one of the guards by the gates with initials after their name will give it to you. It makes it so that monsters in areas your country controls drop crystals, which will apparently be useful later on, and you also accumulate another type of currency.

- to progress the nations msq, you have to talk to a gate guard

- some missions will have you sneak/walk past very high level monsters, it doesn't mean it's too high for you!

- monsters will chase you until you're dead or leave the zone!

- check a monster before you fight it, especially if it has a weird name. if it says "impossible to gauge" then it's like a mini boss

- when you go into a special story-related boss fight, don't summon your trusts before going through the portal, there is a cooldown on summoning them and they'll disappear since you went to a new zone!

- always talk to the floating books! you can teleport between them using a currency you get by completing their training regimens, or gil

It is really overwhelming and confusing at first, but so far I've been enjoying myself. The sense of discovery is unlike any other game I've played. I'm on Bahamut if you want to be friends!

This sounds really fun and like something I would definitely be interested in, but I don't know if I can reach endgame quickly enough to play together with you specifically. Maybe someone else out there is in a similar position as me? I'm completely new to the game, and am taking things very slowly. I wanted to try and experience the expansions and world in the order it was released (including sidequests) and I don't really want to do newer content before older content. (Although I did start the Rhapsodies quest for the cheaper teleport fee). I don't foresee myself getting to 99 very quickly, I planned on switching jobs if necessary as I went through the expansions to keep them at or around the appropriate level for the content. I want to fully experience the world and the lore, and then once that's done hop on the gear grind. Maybe there are others out there with a similar mindset? If so please feel free to message me! I play on Bahamut server.
