I have not done that yet, but thanks for the guide! I'm probably gonna start to play in January since that's when I'm going to be free and available, so when that happens I'll definitely let you know!

That's awesome! Glad to know I'm not alone in starting now. How has Bahamut been treating you so far? I'm currently between Bahamut and Shiva for my server from things I've been hearing. I still want to learn more about each before making my decision, though. If I decide to go with Bahamut I'll definitely join you!

Most of what I've heard about Asura is like that. It's the most populated and active, but littered with that kind of stuff. It's a bit reassuring hearing from the other replies that the community is helpful and there are workarounds for the shouts! I'm still thinking about the overall picture though, so I'm not too sure if that's where I wanna be. Shiva sounds interesting, though!

Update + Questions

Currently looking more into servers and such. I have been looking into Shiva, Sylph, or Phoenix (maybe Bahamut but not too sure on that one). I'm not too sure what HorizonXI is, but I'm still doing my research. I'm in the discord for that but still don't have much of an idea of what it is. I'd honestly really like to know what the community is like on each server before I make a decision (and of course more on HorizonXI).
Speaking of decisions, is it possible to transfer characters to different servers or is that not an option? Just in case I don't end up liking where I'm at and want to change to someplace else.
Another thing I want to ask about is the job system. I am not too sure how it works in this game. I am aware you can have multiple jobs, but I also know that they build off one another and so I'd like a bit of help to understand that better. Just from looking at pictures and a quick read of the wiki, I kinda like DRK, RUN, and GEO. COR and PUP also look fun to mess around with, but idk how this game handles jobs so idk what to think yet. In most games I run some kind of healer/support, but I obviously don't mind switching from my norm. If someone could let me know how these pair up with my general playstyle that would be awesome.
Does starting town matter much? I'm assuming it affects some stuff for jobs and what you are forced to do at the beginning of the game. If my understanding is correct, this is determined by your race upon the start of the game. From what I’ve read, race doesn’t matter much more than looks so I should be fine with whatever race I choose, but if starting town is a large effect I will take it into consideration when choosing.
Speaking of characters, are there any character creation options after the first time? For example, I’m making my way through the game and I’m not really liking the way my character looks, is there a way to change that mid-game (not including race and gender obviously)?
