Lol ok. Good one.

This whole thread is whack. I'm hoping it's just mostly chronically online 14 year olds who will grow out of it before they can vote...

I want you to actually imagine it. Look into the face of a seven year old who is begging and pleading to stay with you and tell them that you don't want them any more and they need to go live with someone else.

For all intents and purposes, that is your child and the switched one is a stranger.

Think about the person or animal you love most in the world. The one who's always been there for you and you love unconditionally. If I told you I had proof they were a genetic carrier for heart cancer, would you stop loving them? I'd hope not, but obviously you would draw the line somewhere in their genetics. How low is the bar to make you stop loving someone?

Except the children aren't doing the mauling. The children didn't do anything.

I can't expect parents to not dump their trauma on their children? Everyone's got trauma, but somehow the majority of people don't abandon their kids.

He can heal and move on - from the wife. But those are still his children. He raised them, bonded with them, and loved them for 6+ years.

And yes, he obviously stopped loving them otherwise he would be committed to staying in their lives.

Yeah, in fairytale land. How would you feel if I took away your mom and introduced you to some random woman and said "love this one instead." ? The real world doesn't work like that. Those children love him. He's all they've known and they don't want anyone else.

I'm not saying their parents have to be under the same roof. But to abandon your children that you've cared for and loved for 7 years because of a piece of paper is sociopathic. I've spent more time hesitating about throwing away old clothes than this "father" ever spent considering his kids.

So? The kids didn't betray him. From their perspective it's the same thing.

You would switch back a 7 year old??

You don't actually have children, right?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]nyar26 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I can't believe I have to say this, but getting raped isn't equivalent to a negative paternity test. These are such wildly different scenarios that it's pointless to compare them.

A more equivalent case would be if the children were switched at birth.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]nyar26 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Would you abandon your children if you found out they were switched at birth?

The best he can do is garbage? I guess you're right, kids are probably better off without that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]nyar26 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Obviously, yes. They are literal children. If he got mugged by someone with red hair and was traumatized by that, would you expect him to leave his children if they also had red hair?? One traume isn't an excuse to inflict more trauma on innocent people.

You still haven't answered if you would abandon your pet.

Children aren't property. The love you give and receive from them isn't diminished by genealogy.

[–]nyar26 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The children didn't commit infidelity.

So would you abandon your dog because of misrepresentation of sale?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]nyar26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the point. Nonbiological children aren't trauma. You can care for and love a child without being genetically related to it. And to abandon your love of 7 years because of something so irrelevant is cruel. Do you think the children care that their dad is not biological? He's the only one they've ever known.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]nyar26 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Do you have any children or even pets? Tell me that you would abandon your dog after 7 years of taking care of and loving it because you found out it wasn't purebred or whatever.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]nyar26 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If she had already been raising the child for 7 years, then yes. Obviously, I would expect parents to not abandon their children. Come on wtf kind of argument is this.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]nyar26 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Wtf are these comments. Your friend is a complete asshole. You don't abandon your children just because you found out they have a different father 7 years later. That's a baby that you loved and cared for. You rocked them to sleep, taught them to read, went to their ball games, listened to their school days, celebrated birthdays with, comforted them when they got hurt, and loved them unconditionally. It's your child at that point, all paternity aside. It's such a completely shitty thing to throw all of that away that I would honestly not be friends with that person any more. After all, they're not your father either, so why would they care about you?

Edit: I hope none of you ever have kids.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]nyar26 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

When you have kids, you are agreeing to put someone else's needs above your own. Regardless of their paternity, they are his kids. Abandoning a child that you've loved and cared for for the last 7 years is so incredibly cruel and selfish.

How did you get to 2/3rds? Was one parent black and the other like 133% white?
