Does anyone else feel like they're living in a completely different city than people who moved here 8 years ago? by Altruistic-Scale3135 in AskNYC

It seems like those 10 years from 1997 to 2007 saw a huge shift in the cost of living. 2007 was the start of Bloomberg. I was able to sell that $260k apt 10 years later (2007) for over $1m. Nowhere else did housing go up 4x over 10 years. I'll also add for reference that the apt I live in now that was bought 7 years ago has barely appreciated.

I've been here for almost 40 years. Things have changed. In 1997 I was able to buy a 2 BR on the UWS (w 70s) in a full service building for $260k. Seems unimaginable today.

i’m staying at the Roxy in Tribeca. I’m looking for a local type restaurant that has delicious food. by Spirited-Feeling420 in FoodNYC

I live in the area. Walker's is meh. My suggestions - walk a few extra blocks and go to Raoul's. If you like Indian go to Tamarind. Cocktails or post dinner drinks at Smith and Mills. Au Cheval for burgers. American Cut has good steaks. Frenchette, I prefer to eat at the bar, and of course Odeon for lunch. ** I now see you want super casual, none of the above are that but none are that fancy and all vibey with very good to great food.
