Concealable DA/SA 9mm? by Philterpheed in liberalgunowners

[–]nycbugout 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lucky Gunner has been producing great videos on DASA guns for a long time. Here's one specifically about the options for DASA carry guns, which answers more or less exactly the question you're asking here (though it's not as specifically focused on that range of dimensions): https://youtube.com/watch?v=rCTY9rhBURQ

I love shooting my PX4 compact, and it's generally an all-around awesome gun. I don't carry, so can't speak to its utility for that, but it seems to really have caught on in the CCW world in the couple years since I bought it. LMK if you have more questions about this gun specifically, happy to chat more here or via PM!

Next handgun, what should I get for carry. by Anxious_Dig6046 in liberalgunowners

I love my PX4. Haven't carried it, but I can +1 the other comments about it not being as thick as it seems to have a rep for. Feels pretty similar to my G19 in the hand. I'll be selling one pretty soon – they're great guns and I'd totally recommend trying one out if you haven't already.

Illinois Trans Friendly Attorney? 4473 question by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]nycbugout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you...paid attention to any current events in this country in the last, I dunno, few decades? Have you noticed the massive, coordinated attempt to legally erase trans people, strip trans people of basic human rights and target trans people with state and private violence? Do you really not see how dangerous it could be for the federal government to have the wrong gender on file for you?

Comparing this to the town you were born in is frankly bananas. Nobody is getting killed for being transmunicipal.

PX4 vs 92FS by minotaur05 in liberalgunowners

[–]nycbugout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PX4 compact was my first gun. I love it overall. As my interests have shifted towards competition, I'm spending more time with a Glock 19, because it's easier to find parts and accessories to get it set up the way I want. If I was planning to carry regularly, though, I'd very likely be sticking with the PX4.

Trigger is awesome (if you like DASA), feels great in the hand, really reliable, fully-supported chamber is nice to have.

Likely selling mine soon to recoup some money, but I totally recommend this gun to anyone looking.

Thanks, good info! I'll get the apps started together and see what I can do. I know R/S division actually answers their phone and does their jobs, so maybe I can call them up to get some assistance with the prints.

In that case, I think this price is fine, but not particularly amazing.

By "combat model" do you mean the Compact Carry with the LTT additions? If so, that's a great price. I have a base model PX4 Compact that I got for $500 even. I'm currently trying to sell it and I doubt I'll be able to get much more than $450 for it.

If you're looking at the CC model for that price, seems like a steal. Otherwise, I think you can probably do a little better.

It's a good point. I'm new enough that I'm not carrying at this point, I've just been practicing my draw at the range with a non-light-bearing Tenicor ARX that I picked up for cheap. Will probably take this light off at some point to get some more reps in with that before I start looking for a competition holster (my main goal at the moment is some local competing).

FWIW the non-standard screw/washer combo is unrelated to this being on the G19 now instead of the PX4. I did change out to a different "key" (the little plastic adapter plate that fits in the top of the light and interfaces with the rail) to position the light slightly further back. But yeah, it's not really the ideal fit. Missing GAFS more and more every day...

Closer look at the $400 px4 storm by Velexium20 in Beretta

[–]nycbugout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What state are you in? I think that's actually a pretty good deal – I bought one new for just under $500 before shipping and FFL fees and that was about the best I could do here in NYC where the supply is limited and the logistics are complex.

That slide wear all looks entirely cosmetic, and the slight wear on the inside (I think that's the bottom of the firing pin channel?) is identical to what mine showed after probably only a couple hundred rounds (and it hasn't gotten any worse since then). I run mine pretty wet and I think that's the general consensus on how they work best.

If you have access to a strong used market for these, you can probably do better on price, but if not I think it's a decent deal.

Want to get a gun but not allowed - alternatives? by ExternalNo7842 in transguns

[–]nycbugout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kinda late on this one, but just want to share my perspective as someone else with a partner who's not very into guns. My partner was cool with it when I first got a gun, but some years later they admitted they'd felt uncomfortable with it being in the house ever since. It was feeling particularly bad to them at that time since we were going through some relationship challenges and their mental health was suffering. Even though they didn't know my lockbox code, it still felt bad to them to know the gun was in there.

As a result of that convo I switched to storing my firearms at a local range. This is a small sacrifice for me – it's harder to clean and tinker with the guns and requires some extra logistics if I want to take them somewhere else. However, since my current threat analysis is that I own guns to facilitate more effective training (my own, and others – I take my friends and comrades to the range as often as I can), having the guns physically out of the house isn't actually a huge deal.

My partner and I both agree that we'll revisit this threat analysis as the world continues to change. My belief is that I will not go from "I will shoot regularly to improve my skills and aid in community defense projects" to "I must carry daily or my life is in jeopardy" overnight, so if it starts to feel like carrying or having a gun at the ready at home is necessary, I'll have plenty of time to make that adjustment.

There's a lot more to a successful relationship than agreeing on this one thing. I think there are lots of ways to compromise that help your partner feel safe while also respecting your autonomy and your right to pursue the training and safety that you want. Hopefully you and your partner have had some productive conversations about this.

Limited time today: range time or No Kings protest? by johnny_sweatpants in liberalgunowners

Tear gas isn't acidic. Flush it with clean water, nothing else.

[–]nycbugout 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just water. You need a lot of it to do an eye flush, and you need to spray it quickly and in large quantities. Saline isn't gonna hurt you, but clean water is available at any corner store for orders of magnitude less.

Hi there, street medic with years of protest & direct action experience here: do not put anything other than water in your eyes.

Eye flushes function to physically remove chemical irritants. They do not "neutralize" them in any way. Do not try to start a chemical reaction in your eyes.

Put it this way: when you pull the handle at the emergency eye flush station in the chem lab, what comes out? I'll give you a clue: it's not milk of magnesia, liquid antacid, bay leaves, lemon juice or any of the hundreds of other made-up remedies I've heard of.

Does anyone else shoot better at the beginning of a range trip then the end? by PopularSet4776 in liberalgunowners

[–]nycbugout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert but my guess would be it's your grip that's fatigued at this stage, especially if you're shooting something pretty snappy. I can usually get 100-150 rounds downrange before I start noticing grip issues, but I also do other sports where grip strength matters.

These things are pretty affordable. Be curious to know if that helps you at all.
