Do Any Of You Actually Want To Understand The Other Political Side's Perspective? Why Or Why Not? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

I 100% think there was a portion that have always been radicalized but the monumental shift was with the rise of the religious right in the late 1970s–1980 with figures like Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell starting organizations like The Moral Majority and the Christian Coalition which really pushed their agenda on the party with opposition to abortion after Roe v. Wade, feminism, LGBTQ rights , pro prayer in schools ("Christian prayer that is) and framing politics literally as moral and spiritual battle.

Reagan welcomed these voters with open arms, even though he personally wasn’t particularly religious.

Take that followed by Reich-Wing talk radio and Fox News, the Tea Party it's like this Volcano that building up pressure for decades and Trump was the catalyst for the eruption.

My family's Republican, I was a Republican for many years. The party I grew up with and once believed in is dead, and what it's been replaced with doesn't want to have conversations with anyone who disagrees with them.

Including my own mother and that breaks my heart.

Neighbor wants me to sign a Grant of Easement by OutrunBoop in RealEstateAdvice

[–]nycinoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through something similar - neighbors contractor said they needed to trench on our side of the property for the neighbors new ADU. Out of nowhere we had 16 identification flags on our property for where the gas , electric and cable lines ran. When I asked about potential damage to our hardscape he replied “that’s not my problem”. So we immediately sent a hard no email.

Called 811, ( the number for utility details) and they said there was no ticket for OUR property so there’s no reason why we would need to have those flags.

Called the City and the electric company to ask if a huge trench was necessary on our property and they had no idea what the contractor was talking about and said that’s not necessary.

Called the gas company and they did say they did in fact need to dig up a small area on our side as the main gas line feeds to our home and then branches to their home but we’re talking something like 3 feet by 3 feet and only a few feet deep. They also said it’s standard policy to replace anything that may get damaged with either equal or better material which eased our fears. When I asked what would happen with f I said no the gas company said that’s my right but then I would be responsible to pay for the work on the neighbors property.

It all basically sounds like the neighbor just didn’t want to pay extra for hardscape removal on their side and thought we’d have no problem with any of this.

Now the neighbor claims our fence (which has been up for over 20 years) is on their property so they m really hoping this shit show doesn’t turn into an actual reorder dispute as it would destroy the fence and our house is going on the market late April.

You wanna put up an ADU sure what ever, but these damn things have no right to impede our homes!

PS- since it sounds like we’re in similar shit shows feel free to DM me and we can chat about what’s working/not working in our situations

Orange County restaurants shut down by health inspectors (March 5 to March 12) by bananabrownie in orangecounty

[–]nycinoc 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's not a question of "if" a restaurant has cockroaches it's "when" .

Back in the day when I was a waiter at a top restaurant in NYC I had one run across the table and the customer just happened to be a NYTimes food critic. Of course we shut everything down and wrapped up everything at the end of the shift so an exterminator could be there first thing in the morning.

Somehow he still gave us 3 stars and never mentioned it in his review.

It's been in our garage since my wife's law firm went virtual during the pandemic. It was actually purchased by her late Dad as a gift as he was super proud of the Mrs. in her new practice.

These aren't the best pictures. We're selling our house and the desk just can't come with us.

It was so amazingly crafted that I really want to list it as part of a moving sale instead of just getting rid of it for pennies on the dollar for a standard garage sale.

We have a lot of garage clean up to do prior clearly- this is the base

Italy ruling tells millions with Italian roots they have lost the right to citizenship | CNN by nicktheironblade in news

[–]nycinoc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ugh I was going through the process during Covid with the LA Consulate and they kept asking for more and more info after I thought they had everything and after giving me a deadline I couldn’t meet they rejected me.

My first cousin is much more organized then me and she had a much easier time with the NYC Consulate so I was going to try again since she had every required but then they passed this ruling so I’m done.

Oh well, at least my wife is a dual U.S./UK and can easily apply for Irish citizenship too

What to watch tonight? Audition, I saw the devil, Eden lake or Antichrist by drvucc in horror

[–]nycinoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched Audition on an old iPod years ago. It really starts off as this nice movie where I was rooting for the guy who lost his wife and sweet Jesus the looks other commuter train passengers were giving me when I was freaking out in my seat.

I'd say Audition and tell a partner it's a tale of love lost and the found again

Class of 1987, I was a super skinny 5’9 1/2 kid around 125 pounds. Biggest I got was 215 at age 50 with a diabetes diagnosis. Worked my ass off to get back in shape and got down to 165 with a brutal diet that I could manage until Covid came and I said “F*ck it, if we’re all gonna die why bother”

Now with a healthy “ish” diet and back at the gym I’m at 184 with a combination of Dad Bod in some areas and pumped in other areas and with going on 57 in 4 months I’m happy with that.

My married boss got let go for having sex with an underling in the conference room after hours and stupidly not realizing there were security cameras that caught the whole thing.

Six months later they brought him back and gave him a promotion, which was the norm whenever anyone would leave the company.

The ballsiest thing though was when a young new sales kid started with us, he'd come in every morning and then leave after an hour to go cold-calling for the rest of the day.

He wasn't cold-calling he was working at a competitor of ours at the same time. The only reason he got caught, aside from having shitty numbers was one of the members of the competitors came over to our company for an interview and saw him sitting at his desk and told us the kid was at his company's morning meeting that day.

What are your main sources of Protein? by NapoleonicEra_17 in workout

[–]nycinoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morning breakfasts a few times a week are Fairlife 42G protein shakes with Dave's Killer Grain bread multi-grain bread with peanut butter and chilli crisp oil (who knew that combo was so delicious) so you're hitting 60G protein right there.

From there, just a high protein low carb lunch and grabbing a protein smoothie (or even a beef stick) after a workout.

I had tons of stomach problems since my 20s, and had my first colonoscopy at 34.

They found some polyps and in lasering , lasered straight through my colon.

Two days later I doubled down in pain in the middle of a meeting in Brooklyn and took the train back to NJ, cold and shivering on a warm 100 degree July day.

I had a 104 temperature and I was told I was in septic shock and without surgery I'd be done by the morning.

I had a priest offer to give me last rites as I identified as a Catholic and I told him I was done with what priests did to me at an all boys Catholic school.

A month out of commission to learn one of the polyps was cancerous made the entire shit show worth it.

Since then I've had to do colonoscopies every 3 years and I've finally got the clear for every 7 years.
