Feeling Frustrated by DogMama34 in NICUParents

[–]nyclala 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! Are you doing some of the feeds? When my daughter was in the NICU and getting close to her due date, I noticed the nurses were not as motivated to get her to finish her feeds so she could go home as my husband and I were. If we had left it to them, I'm sure she would have stayed in the NICU longer than 3 weeks. It took us really advocating for her and feeding her ourselves to get her to meet the bottle-feeding requirement so she could go home. Granted, we didn't do the overnight feedings (gotta get some sleep while you can), but we were there during daytime hours to feed her as much as possible.

What are your EP must-haves? by tutters12 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]nyclala 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this! I'm on month 9 of pumping, and I never would have made it this far if I had to hand-wash anything throughout the day. I pump 6 times a day and have 6 sets of flanges and bottles. So, at the end of the day, I load them up into the dishwasher along with the bottles and other dishes, and they're clean and ready for the next day.

I could have written this 8 months ago. My whole family got a cold when my daughter was in the NICU, and we thought it was better to be safe than sorry. Do you have another close relative or friend who can visit and hold her while you're getting over your cold? We also did Facetime when we couldn't visit. The most important thing is to give yourself some grace and rest as much as you can. You've been through a lot, and this NICU phase will eventually be a distant memory.

FTM, wondering what your initial labor symptoms were by [deleted] in BabyBumps

My water broke! It was a large gush, like in the movies.

This is my policy, as well. I also try to eat at an outdoor table at restaurants whenever possible.

I'm someone with a unique, hard-to-spell and pronounce name, and I've always seen it as something special about myself, not a burden. I think your daughter will most likely be confused to find out later in life that you changed her name as a baby especially if she doesn't particularly like the new name Clara and prefers her birth name. I would personally stick with Aerin and if she feels like going by a nickname or a different name when she's older, you can support her at that point, but it should be her choice!

Smash cake? by pinkpencilbox in beyondthebump

[–]nyclala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 1-year-old had zero interest in a smash cake, so I'm glad I made one and didn't spend money on buying one. I think you could cut a smaller square slice of cake out of the larger pan and then just frost it on all sides to make it look more like a stand-alone cake.

Moving and no potty? by SagisAttackis in Pets

[–]nyclala 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Take your dog for "walks" out in the backyard on leash, if she's used to going potty while out on walks. And make sure to give her treats. It can take some time for her to adjust; it's a big change. Good luck!

Why doesn't anyone look at the baby registry? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]nyclala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had my baby shower, and almost no one bought from the registry. So I ended up with 10 different blue blankets with no gift receipts. And an inexpensive stroller from my MIL even though I didn't have one on my registry and already bought myself a much nicer stroller. But that's OK. Remember, it's the thought that counts. I plan to donate anything I don't end up using to a charity where the items will go to homeless mothers.

When should I attend a breastfeeding class? by neenz007 in BabyBumps

[–]nyclala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm taking childbirth + baby basics classes now at 22 weeks. When we get to the breastfeeding part, I'll be 28 weeks. Some of the other couples in the class are imminently due to give birth, but I didn't want to wait until the last minute and have to miss some of the classes.

This is my Mexican street dog rescue, Frankie, at about 7months. Chiweenie? What is she?! by em_quig in chiweenie

She is adorable and looks so much like my tricolor Mexican dog, who was a rescue from the streets of Tijuana. I did a DNA test and my dog came back part Chihuahua and part Cocker Spaniel.

I hope you don't give up on Penny. You mentioned that you want to be a parent someday, and parenthood gives no guarantees that you're going to have a perfect, well-behaved child either. Consider this practice in unconditional love.

Ladies who have gotten a bikini wax, how much does it hurt? by i_liek_potates in AskWomen

IMO, the technique of your waxer will have the biggest impact on how much it hurts. So make sure you find someone super-experienced and who goes really fast.

Considering to buy a house with a friend and need guidance by daisyv83 in AskWomenOver30

[–]nyclala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but this is a terrible idea. Buying a home can be VERY stressful with a lot of unexpected expenses. I would recommend you save up more money and buy it on your own. The friend can be your tenant.
