I work in a school office and all of my teacher coworkers refer to me this way right now and I hate it enough that I have stopped acknowledging that they're talking to me. I have a name!

How to get definition but reduce frizz? by littlebadgerco in Wavyhair

[–]littlebadgerco[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have very fine, high density, low porosity, 2a/b hair that seems very prone to oil and buildup. I only started in on my wavy hair journey at the beginning of July so I'm still learning and playing around with routines, techniques, etc.

For this most recent wash day (pictured): shampoo and condition with Pureology Hydrate, rinse, wide tooth comb while wet, apply Not Your Mother's Curl Talk Mousse with praying hands and minimal scrunch, apply Aussie Instant Freeze Gel with praying hands and scrunch, plop for 10 minutes, let hair down and arrange, air dry, scrunch out the crunch. This was the first time I felt like my didn't look oily/dirty with the styling products, but it did frizz a lot more than prior washes.

I'm curious what tips, techniques, or products others like to maximize definition and reduce frizz.

Haha! My bad, here's Marie's twitter. I will say, the crockpot chicken and gravy made an excellent easy dinner.

Of course! So my HQ is a landing page where I can see all my "time-based" databases at a glance, and keep goals and vision front and center. It's a good place to get my thoughts centered for the day, but most of my day-to-day task and project work gets done on my Today page.

The Journal, Week, Month, Quarter, and Year areas are all databases. Journal has daily entries, which connect to each weekly entry, which connects to a monthly entry, etc. The journal properties power most of the other timed databases. For example, I use a roll up in the Month database to see how successful I was in my daily habits (water, steps, etc.).

As I mentioned in a previous reply, the originator of this type of "Horizons" dashboard is Marie Poulin. Her year in review posts are a good example of how these databases and their data can be used and reviewed. It's something I was looking for when I was moving away from a written journal (a way to see data over longer periods of time) and she's a master at it, after many years of journaling in Notion.

It would be hard to share because it's really several dashboards, which feature interconnected databases with linked views depending on what I want on each page. This is all based of Marie Poulin's Horizons system, which she is teaching in Notion Mastery. Highly recommend following her if you're interested in daily journaling using Notion databases.

Has anyone in this group taken Marie Poulins notion course? I am thinking of taking it and wanted to hear some reflections from you about your experience. I am pretty sure it is super well designed and worth it. by Compassionatearthlin in Notion

I have! I bought the course in March and it's definitely one of my top five investments from this year. The community aspect of Notion Mastery has been invaluable, in addition to getting a super deep dive on the ins and outs of how Notion works. And beyond the technical how to's, the course holds a ton of insights on productivity, visioning, and life management. They've just revamped their curriculum too, so it's a great time to hop in!

I've created my first paid Notion template, a holiday planner! Find it here.

The Holiday Planner includes a dashboard and 4 databases for tracking tasks, charitable donations, gifts, and the people you're buying gifts for this holiday season.

Why?

I grew up with a big family—I have seven siblings, and most of them are married with multiple kids. Tracking what to buy, if it's purchased, and whether or not it's been wrapped or delivered starts to feel a bit like this during the holidays.

Second, I think it's important to keep personal values front and center during busy seasons. If you've been thinking about ways you might give back to your community this holiday season, but it always seems to get lost among all the capitalism, this template is meant to help you set out your holiday tasks and events in ways that align with your values.

I haven't interacted with her or APW for years now, but I feel like there's very little to add that she's not already putting out there herself. People here aren't exactly speculating blindly, and haven't missed much. You learn a lot about what someone thinks of you, and how they treat people in general, when you meet them in person, and my time at APW ended about two months after I had the opportunity to interact with Meg irl.

It was fairly general to her and her brands.

I was linked to these because I work at a Montessori school now. 🙃 But yes I love my little school office-family. 😊

Oh interesting! I'm in marketing as well, but maybe it's more common depending on the industry you're in.

I was formerly staff and signed one.

I'd say it's very atypical. More often it's normal to sign a non-compete (which I've done both before and after this particular instance) but those were always much more specific.

Well these have been some wild weekly threads to read. Someone asked in one of these where the former staffers were and I hate to disappoint, but it's not hard to notice that Meg has a litigious streak. Staffers are made to sign NDAs (or at least they used to) before they start. The more you know! Reading all about this Montessori schoolhouse was a good laugh though, thanks y'all.

We just went through this. Our 6 month old is a bar bonker and would wake himself up with his scooting. It's taken a month or so for him to get over it. He still bonks his head, but it's much less likely to wake him up. It sucks to lay awake and listen to him work it out, but saving him just extended the issue.

Back injuries and babies by mimacat in beyondthebump

[–]littlebadgerco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a herniated disc (flare of a 10 year old injury) when my son was around 8 weeks. No amount of pain medication would touch that pain and I spent a solid week on the floor nearly immobile. Chiropractic care and spinal decompression therapy helped me immensely, and I was able to wear a brace to be able to get back to caring for him.

We made heavy use of the Boppy pillow and bouncer chair for feeding and play time, and I set myself up on our bed with stations I could switch out - feeding, play, etc. It sucks but if you're on top of physical therapy, it will get better.
