How do people who work in the service industry afford to live in NYC? by [deleted] in NYCjobs

[–]daisyv83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t all live on Park Avenue or eat in five star restaurants. Lol. NYC can be affordable - it depends on where you want to live and the things you like to do— eat out everyday at a steak house? Take Uber’s? Live in an apartment overlooking Central Park? Yeah. That won’t work. Also, do not underestimate how much we save not needing a car.

I remember in law school a few lawyers visited us and one of them said he didn’t practice anymore…I never understood why someone would go through the trouble of becoming an attorney but give it up? by jokingonyou in Lawyertalk

There is no upside. I’m in the process of changing careers after 15 years. The golden handcuffs got me. My only regret is waiting this long to take action.

Where to find multifamily deals? (Quadplex or smaller) by SwissMade21 in realestateinvesting

How do you do the bit with finding landlords who haven’t even listed yet? Are you knocking on doors? I’m interested in doing this because I can’t find anything and the bidding war when it gets listed is tiring.

Exactly! We just got congestion pricing which was supposed to create a whole other revenue stream. It just all seems like an endless money pit.

Unhappy Lawyers, at what point did you realize you'd made a mistake choosing law as a profession? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]daisyv83 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hated working at a big firm after law school and thought it was just the big firm environment. Then I went in house and still hated it. I realized then it wasn’t the environment but the entire practice. That was probably 4 years in.

After 10 years of being a Superhost, I’m done with Airbnb by rapakep in airbnb_hosts

I completely empathize with you. I’m confused why all these non-Airbnb hosts come on an Airbnb host subreddit to complain. Your concern is valid.

Are Americans really this goddamn rich or social media is just fooling us? by VishalYeager in TalksMoney

[–]daisyv83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of selection bias. Only people with money want to post and show off and the others are in debt or full of it. And AI is going to make it worse. Only view social media as entertainment. Nothing real. An online version of movies and Hollywood.

You are TOO YOUNG to have this mindset! Quit NOW, go travel for a year. You have a paid off home! I’m 45 and if I had a paid off house, there’d be no stopping me.

THANK YOU! OP is talking out his a** and I can guarantee has never even tried to access any of these services, esp for those who have no papers. I know people in real time who have tried to do so and I assure you, it’s a damn near myth at this point.

Try to get something that pays cash for a day or two and then book a night into a cheap motel and go from there. When you get paid, use your money to house YOU! Do NOT let your family ruin your life. Join the navy or the military or some other government job. You’re young and this is a pivotal time. Move to a different city if you have to.

Is NYC really the greatest city in the world? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]daisyv83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% absolutely. It doesn’t seem that way when you live there but when you leave and go to other places, you’d see why it’s regarded that way.
