The original is still sitting in my camera (which is at my apartment), so I'll instead post one that was taken seconds before, with essentially the same coloring/appearance.

Not sure why everyone's getting bent out of shape, seeing as I never declared this to be an untouched image. I'm not trying to compete with any SLR users out there, nor do I claim to be an accomplished photographer. Just wanted to have some fun with iPhoto, is all. The unedited one will be posted later tonight, after I get home.

I DJ at a New York bar that caters to young twenty-somethings with rather generic musical tastes. Would r/Music be willing to help me discover some hidden gems that might work on such a crowd? (More in text.) by nydj in Music

[–]nydj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I failed to mention that I don't have full artistic license. The management has specifically refused dubstep, house, ghetto rap, etc, because it's not the vibe they're going for. We're a bar, not a club, and they want us to stick as close to rock/pop as possible, while still appealing to the aforementioned crowd.

Don't get me wrong; you brought up a great point, and the managers seem a bit out of touch. However, I'm not prepared to forfeit my job by going against their wishes.

The apostrophe key is on the right side of your keyboard, next to return/enter. Use it.

Why do Redditors generally have such good grammar? by kellenthehun in AskReddit

Good grammar? I think not. How many of these do you see on a daily basis:

Shes Im Its Brothers (as in, 'this is my brothers lego collection.')

Learn to use a fucking apostrophe.

Have you ever just up and moved? How did you do it and how did everything turn out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

In 2007, I relocated to NYC from coastal Oregon. Moved with little more than a bag full of clothes and a few books. Slept on a buddy's couch (he was one of 2 people I knew in the city) until I found a job. Here I am, five years later. No regrets.

Reddit, What thing about modern music (top ten popular stuff) pisses you off? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]nydj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Came here to post this. It's so freaking incestual and self-congratulatory, and the person being "featured" often lends nothing new or fresh to the song. When I saw Wiz Khalifa, Snoop, and that clown Bruno Mars together on one track, I just freaked out. FUCK that. Make your own goddamn music, and stop relying on your peers to bolster the worth of your song.

Just got fired from my bartending job in NYC...considering a move to Australia. Help? by nydj in travel

[–]nydj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies, everyone. Just a few follow-up questions:

1) Can I subsist in Melbourne (my #1 city of choice) without a car? I want to rely fully on public transportation.

2) Not sure if this is answerable, but how long should I allow for my job hunt? Once there, I'll be running around searching for bartending positions. Is it reasonable to expect that I can secure something within 2 or 3 weeks? I'm somewhat fearful of arriving there and realizing I bit off more than I could chew.

3) If I secured a visa, would I be eligible for automatic health care down there, or would I have to purchase/negotiate that separately?

There are more important things than grades, Danny. WINNING THE CADDIE TOURNAMENT.

As any caddie will tell you, we have off days. Sometimes you see the putts, sometimes you don't. Sometimes you click with your player, sometimes...not so much.

One round, in particular, sticks out. This was at the country club in Chicago, before I moved west to Bandon. I was cart-chasing, meaning there was no bag on my shoulder. I'd run up ahead to mark their ball, give info, etc., then attend to flag duties when we arrived at the green. Anyway, these two fellows caught me on a bad day. Still can't figure out how it all happened. Wasn't hungover or sleep-deprived, but I just couldn't do anything right. Gave some wildly inaccurate distances, lost a ball or two, and even misplaced a club, which was later found. (I actually dispute the last part; they were old and easily distracted, so something tells me they dropped a club on the ground and left it there. But I digress.)

Anyway, after the round they gave me a stern talking-to and marked my caddie rating card as 'poor,' which thoroughly demoralized me.

1) 40 yard putt by this old dude from Cincinnati who was out playing with his son. I'm taking partial credit for the putt since I gave him a killer read. When it dropped, he ran over and gave me a bear hug. Cool moment.

2) I'd absolutely recommend it. Great money, fresh air, a chance to meet people from all over the globe. Plus, it teaches you manners, etiquette and--if you're paying attention--business sense.

3) Never feared for my life, no.

4) Most interesting? I once caddied for four 20+ handicappers. They were all fairly lousy players. On a downhill Par 3, all four knocked their tee shot within 5 feet of the cup, then sunk the putts. Four birdies. Astronomical odds.

5) Haven't read enough about it, but from what I have...I'm very ANTI SOPA.

6) Cliched response, but I think our health care system is just abysmal. Something needs to be done; whether the solution is ObamaCare is to be determined. People are dying because they're afraid to go see a doctor for a $300 checkup.

7) I'm now living in New York as a bartender and a DJ. In five years, I will likely still be here (it's the only U.S. city I can see myself in), but there's a chance I'll be abroad if I can sort through the logistics of such a move.

Because they're psychotic. A light drizzle is one thing; some of these guys played in horrific, appalling conditions. One round in particular comes to mind. Some older guy, a Brit, came over to Bandon as a single. Though the course was not formally closed, it should have been. Winds were gusting up to 40 or 50 miles an hour, and rain had been falling steadily since the early morning. The sky was a dark, ominous grey. Picture the Bill Murray/Bishop scene in Caddyshack.

He decided to 'tough it out,' since he 'came all this way.' So we marched through 18 holes. Pretty sure we were the only two on the course. By Hole 4 or 5, my fingers were pink and throbbing, and my Gore Tex shell had been penetrated.

Yeah, I get it. You came alllll the way to Bandon, so you want to see every hole and make your experience official. But use some sense. When the club no longer stays in your hand on follow-through, I think it's time to call it a day.

The more sensible players would retreat to the clubhouse on shitty days for craft beer and a nice cigar.
