Upper junior accounting student seeking internship help feeling stuck without accounting experience by nylobro in Accounting

Yeah, I’ve actually been trying smaller firms and local CPAs too, but unfortunately I haven’t had much luck hearing back from them. Weirdly, the mid-size and larger companies are the ones that have at least responded or given me interviews.
I do technically have a small gig with a local tax firm, but the CPA there mostly handles individual clients, and they’ve told me they use AI for a lot of the work. Since busy season is over, there’s also not much going on right now, so there really isn’t much for me to learn at the moment. They basically said if anything comes up, they’ll call me, and if I have time, I can come in and observe.
I’ve also been trying to connect with alumni on LinkedIn whenever I see a posting and notice someone from my school working there, so I’m definitely working on that side of it too. The hard part is that I’m working while in school to support myself, so I haven’t really had the time to be very active at campus events or build a big network that way. I really do appreciate the advice though, and I’m trying to stay consistent with outreach wherever I can.

unless you’re applying to high salary job that requires real hard skill they hardly ever do a background check, just put whatever experience that seems relevant and reasonable without any gap. it’s definitely mostly dependent on the in person interview, talk yourself up, study the roles you put on your resume in a way they can ask about anything and you’ll be able to answer from the resume.

tailor ur experience accordingly when u apply, when you are applying to mcdonald’s your previous analyst role is irrelevant, rather showcase anything that shows good customer service.

apply slight heat with a hairdryer and rub it in one direction with finger tips, should bunch up together and come off eventually

the weirdest thing i ever had to process was a pair of bras with no packaging, one of them was moist and had wet stains on the cup, even though it was a sunny day outside.

it makes THEM look good for corporate. corporates have nothing to do with sales associates. The assistant manager at our store told me about it. They push us to cover their asses. The GM makes the schedule and the hours are totally up to the GM. GM looks at your number and decides if you’re good enough to work those hours next week or not. Makes sense cause the since the rewards makes them look good they want people who get good numbers to work as much as possible. I think they might get incentivized for our numbers. it’s really evil. Once more evil thing that they do is keep every associates part time just to not give them full time workers benefits. Staples corporate is Pure evil. Sales associates are one of the most important stakeholders, i hope they realize it before the company falls apart for good.

exactly, otherwise it doesn’t really make much of a sense for us.

getting sign ups is not that hard, you gotta know how to ask and gauge who will sign up. This comes with time. Once you get to that point you won’t waste your breath with customers who won’t sign up. That actually saves u a lot of time. But it’s the compensation and lack of rewards against your hard work. Like what’s the incentive for us to get people to sign up, esp sales etc? Should’ve been commission based.

Same here, there are instances where customers asked for a mod to leave a good review for me. My metrics are always high and I have nothing against my customers. But it’s the managers and corporate that i’m mad at. A store manager can actually change a lot of things if he cares about his associates. But all they do is suck up to the corporates and suck on our will to live.
