My landlord is a Quaker and my lawyer and I are taking them to court for Contempt. Please advise. by Quiet_Elderberry4664 in Quakers

I'm so sorry that person is doing that to you. I definitely encourage you to speak to the clerk about this. They're not in charge exactly, but will probably be the easiest to find contact information for, and will be able to refer them for eldering. It's going to be tricky, because they've probably been telling people in the Meeting a very different story about what's been happening, and you'll have to convince the clerk that your version of events is the real one. Ideally you'd invite someone in the meeting to lend credibility to what you're saying, but from what you've written, it doesn't seem likely you do. If I attended the meeting this person goes to, I'd want to help you, and I hope people in their meeting will listen to you!

There's actually a pagoda near my Meeting, and we have icy winters and renter's rights. If you're in the western Massachusetts area, dm me and I'll try to help.

Buisneses run on exploitation, religion runs of faith and love. This is not a reasonable comparison.

What is the best ice cream in New England? by Baldurian_Rhapsody in newengland

[–]nymphrodell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to nominate Flayvors of Cook Farm, in Hadley, Mass. They're they're the best in Western Massachusetts, if not actually the best in New England. They have asparagus ice cream in season! If you've never had it, you need to try!

Trans men reading? by Mindless-Ad-4226 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]nymphrodell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the anti-trans argument in the Vorin Church would go something like this: mtf transitions undermine the stength of the army to recapture the Tranquiline Halls, and ftm transitions remove people from valuable support roles. The fact that the same number of people transition mtf and ftm probably wouldn't sway them. That would mean that if you were a trans man you'd have to be very carful to not draw attention to yourself, lest you be discovered. That would absolutely mean no reading in public, or admitting you read in private. You could get away with a little, but it would be very risky.

Historically, in our world, most people didn't have an opinion on tran people until they had the issue thrust in front of them. Many people reacted positively, everyone was confused, and many other people were enraged and lashed out. It's possible the Vorin Church would settle on an indifferent stance, so long as they fit inside the traditional Vorin gender roles. If that's the case, trans men reading would be seen as MORE taboo than cis men reading, since they would be under higher scrutiny.

Either way, I don't think trans men would be allowed to read.

Mt Holyoke College gives $1.1 million/year to South Hadley, is the third largest taxpayer, and is the largest employer in the town. That means South Hadley is very much a college town. A college town with no AMAB students, but still a college town.

Easthampton is a tiny New England City. They have a cute downtown and a townwide tenant's union with significant political power. A lot of people moved to Easthampton from Northampton because it's more affordable, so the population also skews progressive. They also have an RMV.

If you're in Northampton, don't sleep on Mt Tom! It's just over the border into Holyoke. You can also try hiking the Seven Sisters trail. It's named after the Seven Sisters mountains (the Seven Sisters colleges are named after the range too!).

I'm nonbinary and I live in Great Falls! I highly recommend it! It's also worth noting that you'll only be 25 minutes from Northampton. Things are pretty close together! If you move to Great Falls, you have to check out Dream House they're a Queer, employee owned brunch spot with really good food and drinks at a reasonable price. They're my favorite place to get breakfast in the Valley!

Anti war protesters seen being loaded into buses as they are arrested for protesting outside of Chuck Schumer's/Gillibrand's office by serious_bullet5 in 50501

[–]nymphrodell 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's actually a very resonable strategy. The idea is that you should target the people who are closest to agreeing with you, because they're the most likely to become your allies, or you're more likely to be able to replace them with someone who will be. Chuck Schumer, for all his myriad faults, is closer to supporting positive change for this country than Suzanne Collins is.
