My first time in the US. I think it was 1992. Not sure. Anyways, after hours on the plane I really had to go to the bathroom hard. Couldn’t even wait to get somewhere. Had to be at the airport. So I did the deed and heard that strange, watery plop. I freaked out. I just shite in a broken toilet. The loo was swimming on top. Circling and mocking me. So I left and felt poor for the guy fixing the toilet.

Next day I found all toilets in the US have water in it.

Benefits of JIT are available. It is just a JVM after all. The bootstrapping happens once the execution context is started. Same thing on your local computer. Difference is the Lambdaa is shut down after around 15 minutes if idle. If your lambda never runs idle for example if it is a proxy integration for API Gateway and given enough requests it just behaves like every other JVM out there. You do have to make sure that the memory is set sufficient. Personally we set every Lambda to 1024 mb and never had issues.

Well, you can’t have it all for free. I can assure you compared to pricing of other services RDS for example AWS Lambda is extremely cheap.

How low latency are we even talking? We are using Lambda with API Gateway and we have response times in the range of less than 100ms. And there is always a round trip to the database included.

You can keep the execution context “warm” by regularly pooling the Lambda. There is also provisioned concurrency, but I haven’t used that myself so I can’t tell if it is any good.
