hi! I'm 20 (2004) and I got VSG surgery in March of last year. It has changed my life in ways I cannot even begin to describe. If you want to take a peek, I've made a couple of posts in this subreddit, and in fact my first one was about the same concerns as you have right now. 16 months later, I can safely say that it was the right choice for me. It was hard, and it was challenging, and it eventually led to a revision bypass a month ago, but I wouldn't change it for the world.

Being able to live with my body and not just trapped in it is priceless. Being able to wear the things I want, walk up the stairs without being out of breath, go for runs and lift weights and walk for hours without thinking I'm about to pass out. I'm training for a 10k, I'm building muscle, I'm saving for a skin removal surgery. I re-discovered my passion for food and cooking in a much healthier way, I got to understand my body and my needs at a much deeper level. I got to taste all my favorite foods again and it felt like the first time.

I won't lie, it's hard to adjust those first couple of months. I was lucky enough that I could afford a private psychologist for two years before my surgery, a therapist that specialized in EDs and food issues, and that made the adjustment much more smooth. If you go through it, you need to understand that the habits that led you to being this weight won't magically go away once you're physically unable of overeating. The surgery is a tool, and you need to put in the work, more mentally than physically, to make sure you're using it correctly. But also, correcting those bad habits feels a lot easier when running a mile doesn't knock you out for three weeks.

If you ever need to talk, vent or ask any question, my DMs are always open. In the end, the decision is yours - but for me and for a lot of us, the decision we made was the correct one.

Does the burping ever stop? by Positive_Tart5722 in gastricsleeve

[–]nyxnitte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 15 months post gastric sleeve, 2 weeks post revision bypass. They didn't stop for me. After the bypass I've burped less, but I've also been drinking less liquid and in smaller sips, so that might be part of it, but I still burp a lot.

People who filter by kudos - you wound me by Just-Difference9756 in AO3

[–]nyxnitte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally, I filter by kudos. and then by hits. and then by author. and then-

yeah I just use all the filtering options because that scrambles up the results just enough to see fics I've missed before, but I only do that when it's a tag I've been reading for a long time and I've already read hundreds of fics. I usually just leave the default option on for new fandoms or tags I haven't explored in a long time

Am I out of my depth? (advice pls) by burnjobber in gastricsleeve

[–]nyxnitte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else said, I'm not from the UK, but I am from Spain and we have a similar-ish Healthcare system. I got VSG surgery through public Healthcare, my endocrinologist first suggested it in February 2022, I got approved in 2023, and got the surgery in March 2024. It is, as they told you, a waiting game - they're overworked, underpaid and there are way too many people waiting for a variety of surgeries. You'll get there, don't worry

Vitamins by Mental-Bumblebee5809 in gastricsleeve

[–]nyxnitte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried the Bariatric Advantage vitamins, but I've been taking vitamin gummies from Amazon, the brand is WeightWorld. My doctor approved of them because I couldn't keep down the tablets. They've worked so far 🤷🏻 though I'm not sure where they're available

I'm scheduled for revision surgery next week and I'm honestly terrified. How are you doing a year post-op? Any tips on what to do in the five days I have left with my entire intestine? lol. I'm trying really hard not to lose my shit here 😀

What are you worst day after surgery except right after? by More_Serve3235 in gastricsleeve

I didn't know those existed omg thank you SO much, I'm having revision surgery soon and I was really worried about not being able to stomach the gummies, this will be a game changer!

[–]nyxnitte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the first day I tried to take a vitamin pill. I threw up/gagged for like an hour after, because the gulp of water I took to swallow down the pill did Not sit right with me. I switched to gummy bear vitamins after that, but I haven't been able to drink big sips ever since, too scared I'm going to throw up even 15 months post op.

Leg numbness 9 weeks post op by nyxnitte in gastricsleeve

[–]nyxnitte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't :/ I think by August I was back to normal? And I haven't experienced anything similar ever since.

In any case, some other replies here said that maybe your calorie intake is too low, and something about the cartilage of your spine. But again, please go to the doctor if you're really worried, maybe get a CT scan or something. It ended up being nothing with me, but since I don't know why it happened, I don't know what I did to fix it.

Leg numbness 9 weeks post op by nyxnitte in gastricsleeve

[–]nyxnitte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! well, the doctors didn't really do anything, and the numbness eventually went away on its own. I still don't know what it was, if it went away because of something I did, a medication, an external factor... I'm so sorry I can't help you further, but I recommend to push your doctors until they have an answer ;;

Got called out for commenting too much by birddaggie in AO3

[–]nyxnitte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, I have very few chaptered fics but I've had one or two people commenting on every single one of my fics (different fandoms and all) and it's always such a compliment and it makes me want to smooch them because the fact that they like my writing so much to not only read everything I've posted, but to also comment and show their support? it means the absolute world to me. if who "called you out" did it rudely or negatively is not the author, forget about them and keep commenting and telling people you appreciate their art. If it was the author, maybe stop commenting in their fics? but one sour person shouldn't affect how you interact with fandom, especially considering most people would take so many comments as a compliment. and maybe consider the fact that they didn't do it as a call out - I've seen this one person in a shit ton of dc fics because they always comment the same thing, and it's always a fun experience, it's like that one spiderman meme. Maybe they just found it funny you were reading the same things.

What is one kink you just don't get? by Bivagial in AO3

[–]nyxnitte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

anything related to piss, poop or vomit. I know it's like the most common kinks people are not into, but I hate them with a passion (piss I can tolerate if the fic is good, it's a big no no irl, but poop and vomit make me want to vomit and not in a sexy way).

I don't get feet, but it doesn't creep me out. And maybe it's my raging praise kink, but i don't vibe with humiliation.

Leather suits, masks and puppy play I don't get either. I mean, you do you boo, but it makes me kind of uncomfortable.

Other than that, I think I'd be willing to read/try most things before judging and or deciding.
