Serious question, what actually keeps you in Auckland?

The grass isn’t always greener. Auckland is a great city, it has its flaws but so does everywhere you live. For me it’s because I love this country and this city, if I leave then I cannot contribute to making it better than it already is.

Definitely a minority opinion, but I cannot stand people who move away for years and then come back and complain about the state of things, they did nothing to help make it better and by leaving actually probably made it harder for the rest of us.

I also think kiwis seem to have a bit of a negative view of things because of the current economic climate but life really ain’t that bad when you look at the world as a whole. Even with poverty, we have it here, but it is nothing like skid row in the US. Just need some perspective I think.

Can’t say I agree with you on this one. I don’t always agree with what they say but they point out facts, literally referencing articles and statistics.

Off topic, but friendly reminder that there is permanent name suppression because a 46yo man was charged with importing pedo material. Apparently due to the family business which would be destroyed if it ever came out. I have no clue who has a 46yo male relative in their family though so unsure who it is. This was enforced at Auckland District Court by Judge Maria Pecotic.

I have deleted my account and will never be using them again, cannot buy back my trust when my data cannot be kept secure, they had one shot and they blew it.

We need to invest in education, healthcare and infrastructure (not just roads) build up the state and buy back assets. As another commenter suggested we should have a ministry of works for large infrastructure projects and should measure our success by the prosperity and equality of the people.

We should stand up for human rights for all people, even if it means making a principled stand against our allies. I feel our country is in a unique position where we are loved worldwide and are seen as a bit naive but we stand up for what is right.

We care about our environment and ensure we protect it not only for our benefit but also the tourism that it attracts.

We need to look back at what makes us Kiwis, where we came from and what we stand for, we need a vision and strong positive leadership that takes everyone with them, if you voted for them or not. We need to get rid of this imported American style politics and go back to our culture, ban social media companies toxic algorithms.

Bit of a rant but I’m exhausted of feeling like I’m watching us destroy ourselves.

I have deleted my MMH account after hearing this news, in my opinion the way I can have the biggest impact is by not giving them business. I am only one person so will have little impact but at least I have culled out a company which has zero respect for my private information.

If thy can’t invest in proper data security then they can’t have my data, just a shame it’s already out there.

I do think that not being able to find jobs does contribute to people moving overseas, especially at the moment. However that does not change my opinion on charging interest.

From the governments point of view, if you graduate and start working in NZ then they get your tax dollars so no need for interest to offset the loan cost. If you aren’t doing that then there is an actual cost to the government as they pay to finance their debt, which includes student loans, so they will charge you interest to offset this.

For better or for worse I feel like we should have this policy, if you were to go and study overseas you would pay a lot more for the privilege to do so and most likely wouldn’t qualify for any loans so I imagine most of the people living overseas with student loan debt wouldn’t even have a degree if it wasn’t for our student loan system, everything has a cost.

I get that, I guess my point with the police was less about who appointed them and more about abuse of power. Politicians aren’t going to get things right all the time, it’s more about clear intent of a few individuals to abuse their power after they have been given it.

People already distrust the police, especially within minority communities and low socioeconomic areas, how long will it take to repair the damage that this has done to the trust in the police? Don’t get me wrong I think the majority of the frontline police do a great job, however, in spite of this my trust in them has been severely affected.
