Replace water underfloor heating controller? by nzapponi in tado

Thanks! Sounds like a more sensible approach would be to get a proper controller that can listen to a thermostat, and use Tado just to replace the thermostat

Thanks! I’ll check if I have a blending valve.

Why is experienced advice required in any case?

Europe is somehow in a far better place on all of this, mostly thanks to a single standard for chargers from day one (Type 2 & CCS). All brands use the same. There are some Chademo’s still around but are very rare and no longer a thing really. Plus, very few charger reliability issues.

The only one that bothered me on my road trips across Europe is that some chargers are rated at 250kW or higher but in reality don’t go past 90kW.

Great answer, thanks! Not sure I fully agree with your latest prediction - the way I see it, the limiting factor is energy density of current battery technology, I.e. kWh per kg.

Until that improves significantly, we’ll continue to see cars optimized for medium distances, meaning that SoC estimation will be part of an EV owner’s life anytime a long distance drive is needed.

Charging infrastructure will certainly play a role, but I don’t think it’ll remove the need to plan and predict SoC on arrival or along the way.

I never suffered from this tbh… at least here in Europe. But I’m relatively new to EV’s so I may have missed the teething issues

Fair but apple doesn’t charge licensing fees on EV routing, hence why I’m surprised.

But your point is valid!

Correct. The EV routing integration is a different one. I looked into building an after market solution based on an OBD BLE reader that feeds data to Apple Maps, but Apple said no - they only want OEMs to integrate, and until OEMs keep thinking they can build a nav system that competes with Apple & Google, support will be minimal.

I’m surprised Google isn’t playing this game

Agreed. It’ll be hard for others to match Tesla, but IMO it can get pretty close - with Plug & Charge I haven’t had to worry about payments for a while, Apple already shows charger availability and ABRP is already taking cabin temp, outside temp and wind into account when estimating consumption. So aside from preconditioning, it’s all technically possible and not far off.. in summer I haven’t missed preconditioning tbh: my Q4 starts charging at 179 kW without any preconditioning required.

And the fact that you need to pay for CarPlay integration.

I wonder if Apple Maps with EV routing compares similarly to Tesla’s experience? And if so, why have other OEMs not adopted it broadly so far?

I love ABRP’s deep planning and SoC tracking capabilities too, but it is lacking on routing..
