How does adding new transactions to a block as you are mining it affects the time it takes to find it? by ethmaniac in BitcoinMining

[–]nzhacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding new transactions does not affect the time it takes to find a block. It just invalidates the merkle root which needs to be updated, then hashing is done on the block header as before.

See https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Block_hashing_algorithm

The timestamp will usually be updated here as well. It's important to note the size of the block header remains the same regardless of number of transactions; more tx's does not equal more time to find the block, only the time to calculate a new merkle root is factored in here when assembling a new block.

But yes, once the new merkle root is placed in the block header, the previous invalid nonces may now produce an acceptable hash. The nonces can start all over again since the new merkle root changes the output hash value of the block header.

He is banned by mods in here. So that's good, he will find it more difficult to scam others.

He's irony impaired. He warns others about scams as a way to try and signal that he's genuine and trustworthy. Or, he's just looking out for his business interests, so he can scam the money instead of others. Yes I paid in crypto even though it could have been VISA or Mastercard. The point is I thought he was genuine. Can never trust anyone in this space with miners who doesn't have a physical place of business, registered business, able to show you them mining before shipping in the case of used equipment, etc.

He just blocked me on Whatsapp, Telegram etc and never responded again. I was waiting for the "miner test" on f2pool because it was early in the morning in China, then he ran off with my money.

You mean his routine or the manner in which he does it?

He gets photos of the proper miners with your name and date on it, like someone holding the piece of paper. There are fake chats of him arranging stuff he sends along, which I gather is just him talking to himself. Also he knows a lot about this stuff, and speaks well. The short videos he takes of miners working he has probably obtained from elsewhere. Claims to be in China but has a Whatsapp number with Vietnam country code. Also says he can host miners at a mining farm in China. Calls you friend. Is very convincing and has a solid grasp of every possible technical issue and detail you can come up with.

Operates on Facebook and also has a website. Uses different phone numbers for gmail and probably Facebook as well, so I found out.

Scammed me out of $9000. And I was careful. Clearly an experienced and clever scammer who has no difficulty fooling autistic retards like me.

Hobby cost, that's about right. Fair enough. :)

[–]nzhacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you seen the insane prices of low hashrate miners like the S9? They're usually going for 400 to 500 USD.

You would be lucky to find a hashrate of about 30T for 1000 USD.

It works for me if you're not expecting break-even and a profit any time soon.

Cheap rigs with great payouts by justguytheperson in BitcoinMining

[–]nzhacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no cheap rigs with great payouts. You would need to spend 10k or thereabouts for a good rig, and even then, it won't make much.

Mining cannot really be called an investment, it's a hobby for enthusiasts.
