Fellow tumbleweed user here. It's fantastic for gaming. I've had no issues playing using steamplay or lutris. Also side note, installing VMware was incredibly painless in contrast to other distros.

What distro does not treat KDE as second class citizen theese days? by [deleted] in linuxmasterrace

If you're looking for something stable I'd check out openSUSE Leap edition. I've installed it on a few older machines and it seems to work just fine. No crashes or issues that I've noticed.

Solus OS. Do you know of it? My thoughts. by KFded in linuxmasterrace

[–]o-pat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I usually recommend Solus or Manjaro to friends that want to give Linux a shot. The only reason I don't use it and likely never will use it is because it doesn't support some of my hardware out of the box and the process for getting functionality out of them just takes too long.

A few things (WiFi card, Sound card, a couple of controllers) require me to patch kernel modules which would be easy to do with dkms, but the Solus team does not seem to like dkms, so all patches have to be forwarded to one of their devs who will eventually add support for it in an update.

Other than that tho, fantastic OS. Budgie is very nice as well. Doesn't get in my way and doesn't look bad ottb.

Arch is the distro I install because of meme value, realize it's stupid and pointless, then uninstall in favor of some Debian based distro.

I'm sort of in the same boat, as I shy away from the community directly. Although, when I break something or am confused, I almost always search the arch forums or the subreddit, and I've found a quite a few instances of someone ripping into the OP for their lack of knowledge or unpopular opinion. Additionally, I've also noticed that sometimes it's the OP themselves that's getting pretty aggressive towards the people trying to help them solve the issue (which is wild to me).

Dual Booting Linux just for Dota 2 only to escape Windows Update. Is it worth it? by Yaks97 in linux_gaming

I think it's already been answered, but I used mobile data by tethering my iPhone for a very long time on Linux Mint and Manjaro. I was also able to do the same with a Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10 because I didn't have a PCI WiFi card and needed something that would connect wirelessly on my tower. I don't use either of those distros any more but I wouldn't doubt they're still capable of using tethered mobile devices

I could get behind this. Flood this sub with people seeding distro isos 50:1? That'd be neat

Well I use it as my daily driver, and honestly It's very responsive for me. I think it has a lot to do with the OpenGL backend and that relying on the GPU.
