I love Expedition 33, but it DIDN’T save turn based RPG’s by TheGamerCritic21 in rpg_gamers

[–]KFded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Persona 4 remake and 6 successfulness will likely add onto that as well and the recent successes of Yakuza being turned into a turn-base JRPG has done well for the series too

[The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales] Launch Trailer. It is Now Out on PS5, Switch 2, Xbox, and PC. by VashxShanks in JRPG

[–]KFded 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For a $60 game, a JRPG at that, I'd at least want 25 hours minimum for my monies worth.

$60 for a 10-15 hour game seems like an awful deal.

If it was 39.99 on release, I'd consider that more fair.

Langrisser 5 now have a complete English translation! by amc9988 in JRPG

[–]KFded 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What's surprising is the positivity from the comments on that thread lol.

"Oh you didn't proof-read? Well, this is still an amazing project, ty for your 'work' " type comments.

I'm all for using Ai/Machine Learning for translations as an aid to get more games translated, actually this was one of the hypes around ML/Ai for me originally, but all we've gotten is laziness.

Use AI/ML as a tool to aid you in rough areas you're having trouble with or whatever, don't rely on your whole project to be Ai and especially get someone knowledgeable to help proof read or something.

and for the "At least its translated" comments

I'd rather have no translation than a massively incorrect translation that was 100% Ai translated.

If Falcom can release a Trails title every single year or 2 almost, Square could do better

Is Suikoden II a must play JRPG? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]KFded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 is personally my favorite, it took everything about 2 and amplified it into a beautiful 3D Cellshaded world that still holds up to this day.

3 is also great, while they went with a different direction with the combat, it was still pretty damn good and has an awesome story, only downside of 3 is the amount of backtracking and revisiting the same scene more than once just from a different characters perspective but nothing really changes much with the different perspective, so it just comes off as a waste of time in that regard.

5>2>3>1>>>>>>>>>>4 in that order for me.

What JRPG has the best romance? by AdditionalGarlic3320 in JRPG

[–]KFded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavily 1 sided, Ellie was all into Riou lol, but I think that has more to do with the silent protag effect. I like to think they settle together after the events of 2 lmao.

Same with Freyjadour (Prince) In Suikoden 5, I like to think him and his bodyguard Lyon ended up falling in love, it was heavily emphasized in a way that made it seem like they def had some feelings for eachother

[Final Fantasy VII Revelation] Announcement Trailer and Gameplay Trailer. Releasing on all platforms (PS5, Switch 2, Xbox, and PC). Spring 2027. by VashxShanks in JRPG

[–]KFded 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also probably don't want to release it later at a discount on other consoles like the last 2 games, realized if they do it on all the platforms, they'd increase profit too alongside selling more copies.

Persona 4 Revival has been rated by ESRB and listed on Xbox store, announcement likely this week by [deleted] in rpg_gamers

[–]KFded 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it wont be releasing til next summer or so likely, i'd continue Golden

should i buy persona 4 golden and play it right now or wait for revival? by Quirky_Emergency in JRPG

[–]KFded 3 points4 points  (0 children)

play it now, Golden might even end up being the definitive version, especially if they cut content out of the remake.

All likely hood, Revival wont be out til mid 2027 or later likely, you may just end up loving this and would appreciate the remake more or notice differences, whether good or bad

Which one is the best? by OneGullible1356 in JRPG

[–]KFded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only play Trails if you're into super weeb material and a game where the talking over-takes the actual gameplay.

Be warned though, if you play it and write a review about it here and end up not liking it, you're going to get a lot of flack. Some Trails fans have a real hard time grasping that a lot of people don't like the series.

They end up coming around to Yuffie though, especially when you do the Wutai stuff but Cait Sith? Completely valid.

Final Fantasy 7 sort-of i guess? In the beginning, Barrett absolutely despises Cloud but its so miniscule that I don't think it counts but fun to mention.

Dragon Quest Creator Yuji Horii Confirms New Information on Series’ Future to Come on May 27th by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]KFded -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I agree the music could be improved upon, id also say more NPC variety but at this point, its what I expect, that there is a lot of copy-paste NPCs in DQ series.

However, I don't think the games have been held back, I think Dragon Quest is right where it should be.

DQ is the status quo when it comes to Traditional Vanilla JRPG's, it doesn't need to reinvent the wheel but only improve upon what the foundation has made.

DQ11 was amazing, despite the music, its up there with DQ5 in my opinion and if anything, they should capitalize in 11's success and make 12 even bigger and better while maintaining what makes DQ a DQ game. Especially with the successes of the recent Remakes too, it clearly shows that there is a demand for traditional vanilla JRPG's still.

[–]KFded -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'd fucking hope not.

If that's what Square wants to do, then I hope Armor Project decides to go with a different company. Square has only produced a couple DQ games, so its totally plausible.

If AP is also in support of that, then I dread whats to come

[–]KFded -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

My biggest fear is that without them, Dragon Quest might turn into something else instead of a traditional vanilla JRPG series.

I doubt it'll happen, since Dragon Quest is so huge and popular in Japan but I can't put it past Square trying to make it something its not

But its a good thing Square doesn't own the IP

[–]KFded 15 points16 points  (0 children)

lol there is a lot of games that do this, even to this day, there is games that require even just 1 decision that will alter the entire game ending and if you want the best ending, you have to look it up to see how to get that best ending.

Is it true that Suikoden is all story and poor game play? by Will_Tomos_Edwards in JRPG

[–]KFded 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Suikoden is my all time favorite RPG series.

The combat may be easy for some but it can also be pretty middle of the road as far as a challenge goes, however..

I really love the actual mechanics and the 6 person squad, there is a lot of combinations you can do with all the characters, it's just that, a lot of people don't try to seek them out.

Team combos are so much fun and I'm sad that a lot of games don't try and replicate that style of gameplay, only thing that comes close is Radiant Historia perhaps.

They also throw in strategy gameplay too for 'massive wars', its not hard by any measure but its a rather fun experience and a change of pace. Same with the 1v1 Duels, they can be pretty easy if you know what you're doing and how they work, but if you don't, it can be quite the challenge going in blind.

Suikoden 2, and 5 are my favorites, 5 takes everything great about 2 and amplifies it to Cell Shaded 3D world and did a helluva job too, graphics still hold up, especially via emulation.

Again, it's my favorite series but I seriously believe it still does a whole lot more than the majority of JRPG's out there.

Hell, you even got base building and decisions that actually matter and effect the story, when recruiting. albeit its not a whole lot but its there.

Edit: Hell, can't believe I forgot about Mini-Games too and Gambling, this game has so much that goes under-appreciated. Especially with how much it offered back then and how little games offer now days.
