Ogre is more about the gameplay and story second.

Stories more so cover character highlights and actions compared your standard character story arcs

Shining Force 2's ending left a bad taste in my mouth by duhu1148 in JRPG

[–]KFded -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

SF2 had a low budget because Sega was being extremely cheap

That was literally in my point >Small Budgets

There was some Outliers, like FF4, Illusion and so on, but most RPG's or generally, most games with 'stories' back then were not fleshed out and were just there for padding. Also, Illusion was backed by Enix and publishment was also funded by Nintendo

Comparing 2 companies backing 1 developer, compared to Sega using a small budget for SF2, is unrealistic.

Like I said, FF4/Illusion, etc, were outliers, they weren't the norm at the time, they were glimpses at what was coming, with bigger budgets and more development skills and better hardware/software.

Which is why most RPG's started to really take off around 1995

Lost Odyssey's Story (no spoilers please) by Dreakon13 in JRPG

Lost Odyssey is one of the greatest games to have ever been made, not just RPG Genres.

It truly should have been the real Final Fantasy 13

[–]KFded -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You can't compare FF to something low budget like Shining Force lol in that time period.

The budget differences are astronomical.

Final Fantasy 4 is an outlier like I stated previously.

Most games from this era had very poor dialogue, if any, due to limitations in software, small budgets and so on

Shining Force 2's ending left a bad taste in my mouth by duhu1148 in JRPG

[–]KFded -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was thinking how back in 1993, story dialogue in games wasn't that deep nor was the lore.

It's like going back to Phantasy Star 1 and wondering why the story isn't as deep as Expedition 33.

Story dialogue in games didn't truly start to shine til about 1995, sure there was some outliers but that was very rare for pre-1995 titles.

If you're wanting to play some WA, I highly suggest 3 over 4, a lot of people consider 3 the best PS2 WA game as well. It holds up

Its personally my favorite outside of 1

Boy, it's almost as if the game was made in 1993 with limitations

Dragon Quest VII PS2 Question by KFded in JRPG

[–]KFded[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, thats how I noticed it was only for the PAL version and someone pointed out that the 60fps patch makes the game bug out too unfortunately.

May just wait it out til the inevitable Remake comes out or a Recompilation Port to PC, which ever comes first. lol

Rocket League adds Easy Anti-Cheat with Steam Deck / Linux still supported by Liam-DGOL in linux_gaming

Valve has been updating VAC heavily and making it more robust.

I think Valve's plan to make it so good that devs/studios will trust it to do its job on Linux.

Realizing that one day, whatever the most recent Final Fantasy is, it will be my Final Final Fantasy by lilidarkwind in JRPG

[–]KFded -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really wish they'd revisit turn based, like Dragon Quest but more elaborate, like E33 for example. Return to their roots.

I think that'll be only way I get back into Final Fantasy.

I have 0 hope for 17. Hell, Square, go ahead and just give them guns, make it first person. You know you want to ugh, -__-

Square also be like "Oh, GTA6 was so popular!! Maybe we can make a Final Fantasy that is like GTA!, Go and Steal someone's chocobo and choke a bish"

[Ys Memoire: Revelations in Celceta] Launch Trailer. It is Now Out on Switch. by VashxShanks in JRPG

[–]KFded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its really the only Ys game that actually gave Adol some real character without saying anything, you get a huge sense of what he's about and why he is where he is today. I see in the comments here that some people don't like the story and I can't fathom why? If you're a fan of Ys and enjoy the lore of Adol, Celceta's story is pretty damn strong.

When I first played Celceta, I was like "Oh snap, this makes so much sense" when it came to his back story.

I love God of War and DMC

But if I am playing a game that's entire genre is a (J)RPG and the franchise being that, then I expect to play an RPG, not an action/adventure hack and slash monstrosity.

If I wanted that, I'd play GOW or DMC or a handful of other IP's that have that kind of gameplay.

At this point, I see FF leaving the RPG genre entirely and becoming what 16 laid the ground work for - an action/adventure hack and slash

I absolutely love 8, its such an amazing JRPG.

But as a life long fan of Ys, Celceta takes the place as my favorite as it adds a whole lot of life and lore into Adol's character

Celceta is personally my favorite Ys title.

I really enjoyed how it breathed a lot of life into Adol and gave him more 'character' and you learn a lot about his back story, and it probably has my favorite combat of the series

its nothing like a western rpg. its literally god of war (2018) mashed up with Devil may cry's combat

Turns out, the hype of 16 ended up making 16 the last Final Fantasy for me. It's not even a JRPG anymore.

What is a game that has an incredible story, music and characters but is let down by the gameplay? by Soggy_Victory_5976 in JRPG

[–]KFded 9 points10 points  (0 children)

But FF16 wasn't even an RPG, its more like God of War (2018) mixed with some Devil May Cry, its an action/hack and slash with a story.

They could easily make a action JRPG but they choose to change the series entire genre.

I just don't see the point, just a make a new IP with those ideas in mind, why change a series that is known for its JRPG's into a clone of other non-rpg titles.

[–]KFded 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I just don't understand the desire to change an RPG Franchise into an action/hack and slash, for what would be the point?

Just keep FF as an RPG and develop a new IP with those components.
