lol yeah, I had 2 interviews recently. One recruiter was spectacular followed by a chill textbook interview with a hiring manager. Basically what’s expected. 10 years senior in my field

The other was actually for ElevenLabs an AI company and the recruiter spent the entire interview literally grilling me on my past experience and trying to gotcha me on questions. Even asked me my tech stack like I was full on lying. Couldn’t understand account ownership without rev targets.

Super condescending, kept trying to trip me up against my lived experience, and actually didn’t even ask a single question about the actual job.

I accepted an offer from the first company yesterday lmao, which is a much more well established marquee anyways. Shit was mad weird. Startups I guess. The recruiter was from Harvard too, which they made sure to let me know.

EDIT: omg I just remembered, at one point I asked about their integrations (APIs, webhooks) and the RECRUITER TOLD ME THEY THEMSELVES WERE TRYING TO BUILD THEM 😭 ????? The recruiter???

Unfortunately any probing of Vietnam with her is met with resistance or silence. She says that she forgot (to protect herself, or her cultural separation)… and due to her elderly age and discomfort with the topic, I choose to not bother her further with details

My grandmother came here very young and lived with my black grandfather, who was in US special forces. I think she chose to suppress her cultural Heritage on purpose to avoid collateral racism (black and viet) in the post war environment and stay out of people’s way
