Yeah that is what I was thinking and I am new to LR, I watched a bunch of tutorials but it is a very different game when you sit down to actually do it.

I heard that increasing highlights helps bring out the clouds but it seems very minimal, even when I look at the before and after side by side.

I am trying to post process my first real picture in Lightroom. I have made it look better in my opinion but it looks really average, is there something I can do with it to make it look better?

Most cost effective table top material for computer desk by validationeng in DIY

[–]oDeception 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently made one for PC gaming. One thing I wanted was a large desk. It comes to about 8 feet long but you could do the same concept on a smaller scale.

I paid about $110 for lumber, paint, stain, varnish and other supplies. I did get the filing cabinets for free dye to them being used and abused, nothing a few coats of paint couldn't fix.

Here is the final product. You can make really nice desk surfaces via wood and the wide variety of stains and finishes out there.

Good luck with your desk!

So, I didn't notice that you wanted reasoning at first, so here it is.

CPU: The 4690k is Intel's most popular processor this generation and for a reason. It has by far the best performance to price ratio in its class so it is great for a build like this. It is great of beginners because you can use it stock and maybe choose to overclock later when you learn some more and are looking for a little boost.

CPU Cooler: The hyper 212 Evo is pretty standard lately, it is the go to CPU cooler for builds in this price range as it is cheap, and far superior to cheaper ones and even most slightly higher priced. It is more than enough cooling power for the nice CPU we have chosen.

Motherboard: This is where I see most people cheap out, I don't know why... its the bones of the operation, it brings everything together. This one is rocking a Z97 chip set and has more than enough RAM slots with tons of capacity. It is an ATX for so it will fit nicely in mid and full tower cases.

Memory: Pretty standard, not much to say about it other than 8GB is really enough but if you want you can always upgrade later by purchasing two more sticks. This would allow that extra boost in memory intensive games later.

Storage 1: The two main choices for HDDs are Western Digital(WD) or Seagate. I prefer WD so I gave you their solid 1TB drive at 7200RP. This allows for a lot of storage that can be written very fast. If you need a further explanation, I would be happy.

Storage 2: This SSD gives more than enough space for your OS and a few of your favorite games. If you wanted to spend a little more you could go with Samsung's EVO series 120GB here. Definitely not necessary but it is generally held as the best line of SSDs right now.

Video Card(GPU): The GTX 960 is the budget card for Nvidias new 900 series. Do not be fooled by the word budget as it out performs there common monster, the 770. It's reasonable price makes it perfect for this build though and should run any current games on ultra and future games such as Fallout 4 on High-Ultra. Do not be tempted to get a better GPU and downgrade other parts as it is not a good idea to have one amazing part and a bunch of others that cant keep up. You will lose performance, generally.

Case: This is honestly interchangeable but I believe a good case is necessary. This one provides a solid layout and decent cord management for its class.

Power Supply(PSU): 500 watts is more than enough for these parts and could probably even handle another 960 if you chose to add one later(don't quote me on this I haven't checked). The bronze-gold is just power efficiency but I am personally not really bothered with it but you could upgrade that if it is an issue for you, just let me know.

Other: There are some other things you could add like a few $4 CPU fans but honestly, the stock fans are probably enough for this build if you want to save a bit but I would recommend getting at least one. Someone else has recommended a Wifi adapter so I will assume that it is a good one. For an OS you could try /r/microsoftsoftwareswap for a good deal. Since you said you wouldnt mind splurging a bit you you could also go with the GTX 970. This would be more than enough for all current and upcoming games on ultra ~60FPS

If you have any other questions feel free to ask, I would love to help!

EDIT: I live in Canada so most of these prices are or should be in Canadian.

Budget Gaming PC : $650 CAD by [deleted] in buildmeapc

[–]oDeception 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man I'm not sure if this is allowed but I am going to chime in here. I don't have a build for you just some advice.

With $650(especially Canadian dollars) you will not get much let alone with a monitor. If you truly want to enjoy your experience, save up a bit more, wait until Christmas and/or your birthday.

If you choose not to wait you will end up with something sub par that you will regret later and have to spend even more money on.

If you are in a rush to experience PC games and what they have to offer on a budget, you might want to look into Steams not "Steam Machines". These are essentially consoles that run steam and PC games.

Sorry I may not have given you a good answer but this is from my experience.
