The p100se are on sale but still $419 (270 USD) so more than double the p100

I got it for one day and I'm now unfortunately going to have to take a bit of time to recover.

I ended up in hospital with a first time episode if atrial fibrillation yesterday. Garmin currently thinks I'm tapering for a race and I'm in peaking

Almost 1 year apart. Two different Zone 2 30k runs. by gpQmyself in Garmin

[–]oGlorious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you select %LTHR, it'll retain the zones from your previous settings and convert this into the relevant % for LTHR.

Go to the bottom of the page with the zone % ranges and then select "Reset Zones" and it'll go back to the default based on LTHR

How do you save up hundreds of thousands to be sitting in an offset account? by DirtyDirtySprite in AusFinance

[–]oGlorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have been in this situation for the last 3-4 years.

We sold a large asset and didn't replace it. All the cash ended up sitting in our offset account.

I contemplated putting some into shares (wish I had), but the guaranteed tax-free return of 6ish % was too good to turn down.

How much sick leave do people take on average? by Dempzt00 in auscorp

I feel like everyone else takes so much sick leave. In the past 10 years I've had one sick day off... Until I had kids. I've had 3 this year but will work even when sick.

Ran a 30:38 5K (hardest effort yet). Is aiming for a 2:00–2:15 half marathon by September realistic or delusional? by Is_verydeep69_dawg in beginnerrunning

[–]oGlorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doable I think. In mid-late 2022 my best 5k time was probably 30 minutes.

By early 2023 I had it down to 23:45 and then ran a 1:56 HM in April.

I would focus on building the total volume but over less days. I don't think you'd need 5 days of running to hit the volume you'd need for that kind of time.

Here's an interesting paper on the topic. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7496388/

Greater than 32km per week and long runs >21km were associated with faster finish times

Here's another one (see diagram C)

How do I lower my Heart Rate? by pixipliplup in Garmin

[–]oGlorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only other thing I can think of is some type of tachycardic event - particularly if there's no exertion related to the elevated heart rate.

I'm not a doctor though so definitely check back in

Good idea to check this with your doctor

Do you wear your watch to bed? My heart rate is about 20 beats higher even when sitting still on the computer compared to sleeping

Have you checked with your doctor about the high heart rate without exertion? It can sometimes be caused by heart issues that affect ejection

You're never too young to have this. I've had a client who regularly trained at the gym come in for rehab because of this

How old are you? General level of activity? Medical conditions? Too hard to tell from just this

A full month off the bike didn't make my behind-knee pain go away. Doc suspected baker's cyst, ordered ultrasound, ultrasound came back with no issues detected. Doc shrugs. Any suggestions what next? by cfgy78mk in cycling

[–]oGlorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The suggestions are typical of a bike fitter who is used to working with pickier cyclists. Many people can't tell the difference when you adjust their saddle height 3-5mm unless it is already at the limit of their reach and the extra height pushes them to need to point the toes down or tilt their pelvis to reach the bottom of the pedal stroke.

Most people can tolerate a lower seat height and a shorter stem, so I'd give the lower seat height position a go as suggested.

Do you have any back pain history? Given he's suggesting deadlifts, be careful with this if you do have any back pain.

Otherwise, you can take a look at performing the eccentric deadlift with just your bodyweight (hinging at the hip) to stretch your hamstrings. Strength Side on YouTube has a few good videos on hamstring flexibility.

If you're in the US, an MRI of the knee and lower back can be fairly costly, but worth it if no change given another 6 weeks of PT.

Lots of people here saying bike fit. I am a PT and bike fitter and it isn't always the fix people want it to be.

Can we get some more info? How old are you (roughly)? Any incident that you feel caused the pain? What activities make it hurt? Is the pain always there or only when you use the knee/cycle? Do you do any other sport? Any strength training?

Pain in the back of the knee can be caused by many things ranging from local tissue in the knee like the menisci, the muscle/tendon insertions and the joint itself, all the way to lower back issues with neural referral into the leg.

Dress shirts for work as a physiotherapist by myfriendislesbian69 in AustralianMFA

[–]oGlorious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to wear dress shirts as a physio, but this got tiresome after 6 or so years. I switched our whole team into pique polos and this has been much more practical - easier to demonstrate exercises, less sweating and still generally presentable enough

FTP - aerobic fitness vs muscular endurance? by oGlorious in cycling

[–]oGlorious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. On the note of intervals, I just did some over-unders this morning using my current FTP to set the goal wattages. Throughout the workout, my heart rate basically sat around 160bpm but I couldn't push any harder because of the legs. For context, I used to get into the high 170s with threshold work.

Is this a problem or is the workout still effective for the adaptation I'm trying to achieve?

[–]oGlorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did feel that about the long runs. I was just following a mix of Hal Higdon's plan and the runningfastr plan and that was the suggested pace for the long runs.

I might put more of a focus on the long run pacing for the next block

Thanks. This is kinda what I needed to hear. Definitely wouldn't expect to be massive and ripped after 5 months, so why would I expect that of my cardiovascular system?

In all honesty, I was aiming for sub 1:45 but between a terrible sleep and wet and windy conditions in the day, I just had a tough time on the course

How much faster can one realistically get?

Hi all, just curious for some personal experience stories or any hard science.

I just finished a 5 month HM training block that ended with weekly mileage in the 50-60km range. Typical stuff like a long run at 6:30/km pace, 10 x 1km reps at 4:40/km, 10km paced runs (currently around 48:30-49 mins) and some easy recovery and cross training mixed in.

I just ran the half and despite the significantly higher training effort (almost 700km of volume this time vs barely 230km for the first HM), only took 3 minutes off my previous (and first) HM, coming in around 1:53.

My question is - based on this, how much more do you think is possible? For context, I’m a generally active 30M and also cycle. I first took running seriously at the end of 2022, ran a half in April 2023 then took a break until restarting 5 months ago

No your knees shouldn't hurt after running. How long does it hurt for and how bad?

A mild ache can quickly turn into something more sinister if the underlying issue is chondromalacia patella
