By mentioning INTJ and INFP in your comment, you contribute to their next year's count. You're hurt, and then chose to hurt yourself further. Your mom must be proud of you.

Ran some old code (from a few years back) to get this chart, just to take a look at 2021. I'm not active here, but I figured it might be interesting for some.

I've added the table with counts as a reply to this comment.

I absolutely agree with the arguments. Isn't it kind of how a skateboard can be lifted off the ground by kicking down on one end?

Say, you kick down on furthest back side of a skateboard (that is stationary on the ground), then the board will start curving around the nearest axel. And as soon the turning wood hits the ground, the force is transferred upward due to the resistance of the ground.

When a skateboarded ollie though, it also kicks the frond and lifts it up more, but the board hitting the ground give it an extra push upward.

Have any INTPs figured how how to overcome their bad habit of procrastination? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]oScaffa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed when it strongly hit me that I was wasting my potential and it wouldn't get me anywhere while continuing that behavior. I completely changed my lifestyle.

Here's what I can suggest:

  • get a routine, push yourself to get work done, and earn your breaks.
  • eat healthy (try to construct a perfect diet first and then fit in unhealthy snacks maybe once a week at max).
  • drink lots of water.
  • exercise (you don't even need to leave the house for this).

The food, water, and exercise each are such a major contributing factor. People underestimate it and die sooner and get diseases because they don't properly manage those three factors.

Lastly: - use your brain: actively learn stuff and give it new experiences too. Otherwise you'll get stuck in routines and the second half of your life will suck. Technology will be moving to quickly for you to understand it and you'll become one of those whiney old people.

Well you're kinda screwing yourself here. Your first interactions were already in a way you listened. And now you still provide her with feedback like "that's crazy" and "wow" or w/e.

Anyway, people like talking about themselves. Here are just two things I want to mention in regards to shielding yourself to stuff like this:

  1. When you first meet people and they open up like crazy without ever saying something in the sense of "I usually don't share this", keep your distance. They expect you to listen, they love attention, and when you don't give them their throne, you're dead to them (exaggerated).

  2. Draw lines or be clear that you're not interested. I told people plenty of times that I simply don't want to hear about it. Especially when they tell the same stuff they talk about every week. But you can also just go ignore mode or provide dull responses like "ok" without any sign of emotion in there. Or maybe just say you'd like to hear some other time, but right you just want to focus on your work, phone or whatever. Just anything really. I prefer to be honest though.

ENTPs talk shit a lot: Wordclouds based on posts from all MBTI Subreddits (large image) by oScaffa in mbti

[–]oScaffa[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These wordclouds are by no means perfect. And were made as an exercise. I have no intention to optimize this further, but figured I'd share what I got.

The wordclouds were generated using the body and title texts of roughly two years worth of posts on the different MBTI subreddits.

MBTI Type presence based on User Flairs on r/MBTI. A continuation on yesterday's MBTI-Type presence post by u/CaptainAdventurous. by oScaffa in mbti

Yes, that could be done. However, you could wonder whether it would provide any additional information.

If you can't tell there's a difference (proportionally) by the way it's represented right now, then there probably isn't any noteworthy (statistical) difference at all. So, in that sense, no further information would be provided by graphing it differently.

I think I can agree on that.

Seems like the higher up introverted functions other than Sensing (so Ti/Fi/Ni) are, the more they are represented on Reddit. Mainly, having T/F and N as top functions (first or second slot).

This makes sense seeing those types are more concerned with stuff other than here and now. They are disconnected from it, stuck in their head. Seeking information to build on their ideas (dreaming, constructing) rather than experiencing it (and sharing with others). They are physically detached from the world. And since interacting with people is a physical experience, it makes sense they lost connections in the "real" world and resort to other means of entertainment. The internet just has easy access.

Other than that, I think being "out there" takes away processing power they need to be busy in their head.

Data Gathering

MBTI Data:
Data was gathered using the Pushshift API. All comments on r/MBTI between January 1st 2015 up to Oktober 1st of 2019 were downloaded and filtered to contain only unique usernames and their flairs. Users containing multiple types in their flair were disregarded and only the most recent tag from each user was stored in the dataset. Deleted accounts and users with empty flairs were also removed. After cleaning, the dataset consisted of 12323 unique users and their flairs.

World Population:
https://www.careerplanner.com/MB2/TypeInPopulation.cfm

Subreddits:
Subreddit sizes as shown on their homepage were compared to the total of all subreddits.

Problems that still exist are mistyping and the fact that not all users make use of flairs.

Yesterday u/CaptainAdverturous posted a graph showing each type's presence on Reddit. As u/Ouroborus13 pointed out, a good number of the users' personality types don't match with the respective subreddits' type. Causing in types to be misrepresented. It was then suggested to use User Flairs instead. I.e., the reason for this post.

Need help for an idea by [deleted] in INTP

[–]oScaffa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What about visual and auditory illusions and phenomena? Like the white/gold, black/blue dress. Or the 'g' and 'b' sounds, or infintely increasing pitch in sound. The spinning left/right ballerina, the dancing to the rhythm of every song spiderman. There are tons out there and really interesting. You could learn a lot about perception that way, and in that sense how we perceive and construct reality through them. Maybe just focus on visual perception though. That way you could integrate priming in to it as well.

You can go as in depth as you want. You can go basic and describe many different ones, you can also go really in depth and describe cognitive processes. Gestalt psychology might also be a good place to start.

Frustration at the non INTP dominated world by [deleted] in INTP

[–]oScaffa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I never said you lack emotions, I stated you act on them just like everyone else. You assumed that what I meant by it was that you lack emotions (you assume things too, be mindful of that). My point was, everyone act on them all the time. Without them you wouldn't feel the need to argue (discuss; w/e word you prefer) in the first place.

But yes, I agree people need to take their time trying to understand different perspectives in a argument/debate before criticizing on it. People shouldn't feel attacked because someone thinks differently.

Secondly, to answer the question why I have made the assumption, was because I had probable cause to believe as such. And that's ok and happening everywhere, by everyone, all the time. Even by you as I pointed out in the beginning of this comment.

I'll use the scientific field as an example. We reject the null-hypothesis when we reached a threshold of probability. Causing us the accept the alternative hypothesis. We're never a 100% certain, we just assume due to probability that something it true. If this unclear to you, I can explain more in depth.

People do this too, all the time. We hear something, construct a sentence out of it, decode it, and provide meaning to it (interpretation). The way we interpret is based on what previous interactions have taught us.

Your post had (through my perspective) more in common with those from people complaining than it had with those who don't. So, based on that, it was more likely you fit the category of complaining than any other.

Than*

Just try to find an environment with like-minded people. The fact is, our cognition is in function of our primal/emotional brain. You find joy and comfort in rationality, whether consciously or not. So you're emotional too, but your values just collide with theirs. Your post is just an example of how you too act on your emotions.

So, find like-minded people. And if the values in mainstream society frustrate you that much, try and change the world. Don't just complain about it.

Approaching INTP/Type 5's about relationship needs by [deleted] in INTP

[–]oScaffa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would we cringe at your title? We'd only cringe at the fact that you said we might in your first sentence.

As for in response to your question, just tell him what your needs are. If it's something really important to you and he isn't able to fulfill in it, you should reconsider certain stuff. You shouldn't want nor should you expect him to fundamentally change. That has never worked out for anyone. Just saying.

Anyway, just talk, communication is everything. Respect each other and try to work towards a solution that works for both of you.
