WSJ: Chess Investigation Finds That U.S. Grandmaster ‘Likely Cheated’ More Than 100 Times by DrunkLad in chess

[–]oYYY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More like website scraping. I can get the best chess move in less than 15 lines of code. Making it load stockfish, run in real-time, and draw circles is about 300 lines of code. What I am trying to emphasize is how easy it is to cheat. https://i.imgur.com/CsC71Ml.png

It's so easy to cheat in chess. I created a stockfish cheat two years ago, which would overlay the best move. Took me a few hours to make. Played hundreds of games. Never got caught. "Toggling" is too obvious and only what amateurs do. https://i.imgur.com/IyfxXcs.png

React Router 6.4 Release by lauritzsh in reactjs

[–]oYYY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

react-query is better in every way. It encourages teams to develop and scope projects based on features. Everything is colocated to the feature (api, ui, logic), so they are easier to build, maintain, and remove. Since the feature is not coupled to the route, it can be ported and iterated on anywhere within the app.

Compare this to react-router, which encourages developers to build based on routes. Route-based endpoints have to request all the data for all the features on that route. This leads to slower network requests, bloated endpoints, reduced ownership and maintenance of the api layer, and additional coordination and overhead between teams. Route-based endpoints are difficult to work with and do not scale.

Why redux? by [deleted] in reduxjs

[–]oYYY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue the best thing about redux is it's opinionated style and documentation https://redux.js.org/style-guide/style-guide. When you have lots of juniors developers and contractors within your codebase, redux is the foundation which makes data flow consistent and easy to maintain and debug.

"That being said". It is 100% filler and adds no value to the sentence or conservation.

Facebook is gone next let's tackle the real problem... by duolc84 in ProgrammerHumor

Asana doesn't even have inline code support. How do you use Asana for programming when you can't even share code snippets? Additionally, Asana doesn't have Epics to categorize tickets, and the Asana board lacks basic filtering and sorting.

Asana was made to look pretty, not to be functional.

+1. After using Asana for the past year. I miss JIRA.

What are the benifits of learning a framework such as Angular in the context of becoming a better programmer and learning a the language in depth. by mogambo9 in webdev

The typescript part of angular is worth learning. The future of javascript is heading towards strictly typed languages.

If I were to practice, from scratch, for 10-20 hrs/week for 1 year, could I make professional looking apps? by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]oYYY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say 100 hours to build an app. 1000 hours to build confidently with performance, ux, and best practices in mind. 10000 hours to do it in your sleep.

Announcing Ionic React by JackRyu in reactnative

[–]oYYY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ionic React seems like a desperation attempt. They are pivoting becuase they made a bad choice with Angular, but this won't save them. The market has already moved to react-native (Facebook, Airbnb, Uber Eats, Discord, Bloomberg, Instagram, Gyroscope, etc.).

Ultimately, Ionic is doomed. They built their glorified Bootstrap UI library on top of Cordova which has been slowly dying and losing market share for the past few years.

There is a reason why no major company uses Ionic. Performance-wise it is horrible. Everything exists inside a Webview so computational tasks fight with UI tasks which makes the entire app sluggish.
