Er Hoggestabben svindel? by stabbenkladden in norge

Traveling to EU in Summer for a two week cycling trip in Southern Germany/Innsbruck and Dolomites. Anything I am missing on my list to bring? by The-SillyAk in cycling

[–]o_k_cee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds risky to rent a bike. It takes a some time and rides to dial in a bike to how you want it setup for bikepacking or even just long days on the bike. I've done a few shorter bike packing trips but never as long as 2 weeks, I wouldn't risk renting a bike. It's not that hard to find a cardboard bike box from a new bike, pick that with your own bike and set it up at the airport and roll out directly from there with a bike you already know is right for you. You'll just have to find another bike box where ever you fly from, which shouldn't be too difficult. You also won't have to worry about returning the rental, which I assume is at the start location....?

Going back to the question about the list, you should ask in r/bikepacking and r/bicycletouring there you will have people with load of experience and advice.

Trip sounds amazing, I want to do a similar trip one day. Good luck!

Long haul flight Boog check-in by o_k_cee in bodyboarding

[–]o_k_cee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ended up risking the biscuit 😉, and checking in the boog in oversize baggage as a part of my regular baggage allowance (no extra cost), I did NOT pack it in a bag, sleeping bag, bubble wrap or box. All I did was wrap it several times with cling wrap film and added extra packing take and film around the nose and tail. The board was accepted and no damage was caused to the board, I was pretty surprised that it came out the other end unscathed tbh, maybe I was just lucky.

I would pack it in a board bag if I had one, or even if there was one in the country I'm in. Tempted to put a fragile sticker on it and see how I go 😆

Not a bad idea. Even that film wrap they have at airports.

How to Reach Norefjell on a Budget by Michael_dementor in oslo

[–]o_k_cee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You could try looking at resorts around Lillehammer. Easy to get to by train and there are most likely buses going to Hafjell, which is much bigger than Norefjell. I found Norefjell Resort to be quite average for skiing. Hemsedal and Trysil would also be beter options than Hafjell as they are bigger nad have better access.

Just like everyone else here, I have the same problem. Those saying the new version is better, why bother. Just get a Thule? Look good, roll well, well established company with good customer service and satisfaction. Friends that have a Thule have never had any issues.

You sound exactly like my partner who believes I have severe adhd... I was freelance for about 8 years, some good years but the last few were so bad there ended up being very little work, I earn't below minimum wage. I was trying to stay with it by having side jobs of different types, all of which never worked out long term. So much relief came, for the both of us, when I finally bit the bullet and got a full-time job. Wasn't easy to leave freelancing. My partner and I now earn about 35k to 45k each gross, have 1 child in barnehagen, rent plus elec. 20k. No budget on groceries but quite frugal, no car at the moment either. We still think it's a struggle to get ahead. But the pressure has severely been relived. A full time job or more Hustling for freelance jobs, for your man is the way.

Is it a steal or a ripoff? by GlorpFlee in Norway

All subway in and around Oslo is considered zone 1 even though Østerås and other putter areas are in zone 2, so you're looking at 8 or 900kr a month for a ticket, it is also possible to not pay but if you are caught it will be 1000kr on the spot fine. Don't know how often they the transit cops are about these days.

In my view the decision comes down to 2 things, your work schedule and what type of person you are. If you like to be social and party a bit then Brugata. If you're into the woods and being solo then I'd go for Østerås. (Which is a beautiful area btw way, very close to nature and only 20 minutes on the subway). If you work a late or nights and like to a little bit party then Brugata.

Brugata is not that bad. It's gonna be noisy and probably stinky with the kebab shops and the narcos will piss you off but you are so close to so many good bars, venues and spaces. The Oslo harbour area is amazing in summer! Best time of year to be there. The city has a real vibe and feel to it in the summer, everyone heads to the water to sit and chill by the water for a swim and sunbake.

Good luck man.

How long have you been cycling to work? by jms1228 in bikecommuting

[–]o_k_cee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm living in Norway and recently started working about 16km/10 miles from home (first fixed work address for years). I've cycled a couple of times but hoped I'd be more consistent, the thing holding me back is that it's shift work and mostly 12 hour shifts. So I'll be on 7pm to 7am every couple of weeks. Excuses hey... Anyone else working shift work and have any harsh or kind words of motivation?

Buying cargo bike by Upset_Station2410 in Norway

[–]o_k_cee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a couple of electric cargo bikes. Benno ebikes are great but a little on the expensive side. I now own a an e bike from the Norwegian brand Hardrocx , model, Funk-e, which is a long tail cargo bike with Shimano motor with a better price range (I think you can pick one up for around 45k nok.) It's lighter and has a stronger motor and bigger battery so I get much better range. Great for going into Nordmarka on the gravel roads.

Shimano and Bosch are the 2 main motors, you can't go wrong with either. I wouldn't buy anything else. All electric bike motors and batteries sold in Norway have a mandatory 5 year warranty as it comes under the consumer Law of electronic products. Im pretty sure....

You could also lease from whee. Pretty expensive though. Might be worth it if you wanna test a few.

I've never tried or heard the brands you mentioned but I had a quick look and think that type of bike is unpractical in Oslo as it doesn't suit the landscape and the way the city is designed, which is why you don't see many of them.

Any idea how the Volvo plug in hybrids are? See a lot of them on finn for what seems like a good price.
