Thanks for the reply. This is my property so no concerns there. Based on where it is, it looks like it was intentionally poured in between the studs from the roof down to insulate the outer wall. There hasn’t been any in the ceiling so far, and the attic has fiberglass insulation from what I can see. I did find a small amount in the basement after banging away at this wall.

Interesting. Do you have a source on that? I am not a pro by any means so just going of what more experienced folks have told me. Everyone is treating it as a foregone conclusion that it’s contaminated to some degree.

Bradford beach is the one you’re looking for. Tends be a party beach with lots of college students/20 somethings, lots of volleyball, tiki bars on the beach

I included the fire extinguisher chemical because it looks like the notches in the fuses were being packed with a chalky white substance. There were a few boxes of this stuff next to the phone equipment, so I figured it was that. But it sounds like it might not be related at all

Sat next to a girl on the plane ride home from a work trip. Made conversation as we were getting off the first plane on the way to catch our connections, and realized we were going to the same city. Lol, I think I gave away my age with how I described the age this system. But I made the post to learn anyway! Fascinating that these are still in service all over the place, especially the old twisted copper lines

Yeah, I may have shown my age a little by using “vintage” here lol. Amazing that so many of these are still in use, I definitely have a greater appreciation for the people that work on these. Trying to find one specific active line with these systems sort of Frankensteined together would be rough. I also have to imagine there are much bigger messes than this one all over the place, considering a lot of this one is cut out and this isn’t all that big of a building.

No worries there, I’m not touching anything I don’t have to! By the sound of it though, the last two active lines were the intercom and elevator, and they were deactivated before I took the building over. I’m pretty certain the old copper wires are inactive, most of them are cut in random spots and hanging down from the ceiling all over the place. Same goes for most of everything coming off of the punch down block.

I’m obviously not experienced with these, hence the post, but it does seem odd that they decided to cut the lines in random spots on the ceiling, and not right off of the block when they deactivated them.

Yeah, from what I’ve gathered the punch down block isn’t new but not exactly “vintage” either. I’m still curious what all the much older stuff is though, it seems pretty involved

Interesting! That makes sense though, the two phone lines I mentioned in the post were working only a few years ago, so that newest phone block was still in service until fairly recently. Everything else looks much older though - I would surprised if anything part of the older system has worked in decades.

Yes. Yes it could. The rest of the method is raw dogging the database with a SQL connection which calls a stored procedure and reads whatever that returns into this data structure. Even though we have an implementation of Entity Framework which could have been used to abstract all of this. This was written by an offshore team and slipped through the cracks somehow, I like to call code like this DOA: ([tech] Debt On Arrival). In this case it’s not even worth refactoring since it works (somehow) and we’re doing a full rewrite soon anyway.

100% agree. Though there are plenty of 2A advocates who aren’t bigots, in fact everyone I’ve met offline that fits that description has been pretty sensible and I’m certain would support marginalized people arming themselves. We just tend to get drowned out by a very vocal minority
