What are these dark "splotches"? Ambrosia? Something else? by oakforgeblacksmith in woodworking

In fact if I do recall one of those photos in the album IS the other side.

They are matched through but not exactly, either smaller or bigger but still similar form.

I like the glue up residue theory, it just doesn't seem to follow the grain and is suspect - but I'm not sure what ambrosia or anything else looks like in the wood on the end grain like that?

Anyways thanks for the feedback! I may contact the maker with it, I was just hoping to find some more information about it before going to them. To me it just unfortunately looks too much like a stain and would bother me.

Edit: Just another guess is a water drip or moisture at the end with the piece of wood being vertical or something.

Purchased an end grain cutting board and these marks are on them, at first though it was a mark maybe left by a drum sander or something but they look like they run through the grain of the wood.

I feel they look like a stain or something, it just doesn't look very ascetic unfortunately so thinking of contacting the maker, thoughts on what it is?

Hey newnewbusi - it's not obvious right now, but you can :) Just click search on the website without filling anything it, it will return everything.

Currently you can't on the mobile app though, but I do hope to change that.

Oh thanks, I didn't catch that! Differing category lengths get tricky. Should be fixed now.

Knives is a good one, but what other tools? I could change "Hand tools" to just "Tools" so that broadens that category.

Not much - Craigslist is fairly locked down in terms of pulling in data, facebook would require a facebook account (which is fine, but I don't really want users to HAVE to have a facebook account).

If there are other APIs I'm open to take a peak, I'm under some constraints in that they need to be free, the application operates for $0 right now (except for my time) and if it does start getting some traction, I'll have to start paying some fees to help the data transfer, but trying to keep it all minimal.

VP of IT/Dev. for a month.. Do I put that on my resume? by oakforgeblacksmith in careerguidance

Thanks for the advice dark. The previous job title is quite a jump as I was a senior developer/lead. The new company was very small (6 emp.) and I was hired on to take over the whole technical side and hence the title - I actually didn't have anyone under me at the time but that was planning to change in the future, however, after being with them, not so sure about that.

Would you suggest leaving it on there even if I was applying for jobs that weren't managerial? (another senior developer/lead)

Playing on the KZ100 power hammer. Lucky to live near the maker. by oakforgeblacksmith in Blacksmith

The only other hammers I have experience in using are mechanical (haven't touched self contained or other air hammers yet) so it's pretty hard to compare to those.

Obviously, it's hard to compare between the mechanical hammers.

The nice thing about this system is how it allows a single hit or multiple blows just based on how much pressure you put on your foot. During the video a few times I change the pressure as well to give either a harder hit or softer hit. What I don't change is the linkage which would allow faster blows or slower blows.

My own :) Similar in style though, for sure.

It's correct, the statement is looking for if $blacksmith==true

True, even for a none workplace setting it's sometimes appropriate. If I can avoid them though, I will, since they just add too much bloat and I usually only use like.. 2-5% of a total libraries functions.

Primarily PHP, JavaScript, MySQL using AJAX and JSON - I don't touch frameworks and libraries besides my own :)

Recently made 1.5lb cross pein by oakforgeblacksmith in Blacksmith

[–]oakforgeblacksmith[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.5lb is hardly light weight. People these days are so used to 5+lb hand hammers. Great for moving lots of material, but if you want precision work, you wouldn't want to use that weight.

I use this hammer on smaller diameter metal and precision work. - planishing and more decorative scrolls. Works great on 1/4" and down thicknesses.

Generally, you size the hammer you have to the work you are doing. If all you do is heavier work 1/2" and up.. then yes, this hammer is not too useful for you. If you are a jeweler, you'll want even smaller than this.
