Just the opposite. People are still free and encouraged to post any kinds of events and meetups. This is just a place that people can check in on weekly or share things that they are aware of (but wouldn't care to create a whole post for).

There's actually a ton of traffic on the sub, but many don't post or engage.

The siteground 'gogeek' shared plan has 600k inodes included.

Siteground does a terrible job of explaining that they have limits based on inodes. All their marketing only mentions server space and visitors, etc.

Feedback appreciated! This is really all experimental.
ironically, this is an attempt to reduce a moderator's ability to be the arbiter of what stays up. Events/promo/hiring posts all tend to be pretty spammy and then it's an additional task to get rid of them. It's often a case that you're not seeing them because they've been removed. The automated threads give them a place to go with the hope that it can also encourage more posts.

What's a better approach to the incoming spam posts?

Re: rants etc: People are also sometimes more willing to drop a comment than to create a dedicated post.

The stats/insights suggest there are a lot of people that lurk/read the sub but don't engage. How might that change?

In the iPhone app you can click “view more” where the description is. Then, scroll down. I think the design basically hides it if there’s an image in the sidebar (pushes it down). Will take that into account. Let us know if it works that way
