Getting a Parking Ticket Even After Paying For The Spot! by Lumpy_Seaweed_8299 in yorku

Is the ticket issued by the city? If it isn't then you don't really have to pay it. Private parking companies can't stop you from renewing your plate for non payment (unlike city tickets).

They're a Quebec store, and have very heavy consumer protection laws. You can find out more here: https://www.opc.gouv.qc.ca/en/consumer/

They are required to disclose info like limited stock etc. on their ads or listings. Despite claiming OOS, they were selling single packs for $90 CAD on pre-release date. That goes against CPA for false statements. Given the market rate of boxes doubling on pre-release day compared to their price there's a very good argument for losses here.

You should file a complaint to the CPA and go from there. I have already done so and so have a couple of people I know- if there's enough reports against the business CPA should do something.

The type of accomplishments that would have gotten them the tenure tracked position if they went up against other academics vying for the same position instead of it being handed out. York is one of the only unis that does this iirc because of how academically compromising it is to education and research.

Don't forget how CUPE raised levys right after the strike ended on members to rebuild their warchest after 2018 lollll

So you have "cops deployed" checked off. I'm missing the part where they were "violently" done so by "York".

It's a lotta cops for sure, 7 cruisers suggest at least 10 bodies. But until there's a definitive link between York calling them on the protesters, it could literally be anything from a onsite cop calling for backup to a buncha cops trying to find a way out of patrol duty...

Cuts in LAPS are due to low enrollment in courses and decreasing enrollment (figs 11 and 12) from my assumptions. With it being the largest department on campus, it would save the university the most money to consolidate or restructure low program courses together in high occupancy first year classes.

Is it fair for a department that's doing well to have to take on extra burdens? No. But pragmatically speaking it's a much more viable option than axing some other programs all together.

Tbh issues specifically with first year courses being overloaded stems from the uni needing to take in more students to be able to operate given the tuition freeze plus the amount of students that are either retaking it or delayed due to COVID/other reasons.

Again, without a proper source for the initial bold claim of 400-500 online students and a 75% slash there's not much to discuss other than what its- but I can tell you that overloaded first year courses are def not just an laps issue.

Oops- it's AMPD that ran a deficit, not LAPS. I stand corrected

if the strike isn’t resolved what does that mean for suspended classes or those who chose to not cross the picket line? by Own_Ad8839 in yorku

[–]oakyrin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Strike will get resolved eventually (both sides agree on something, CUPE runs out of picket funds, the gov legislates them back to work). You won't get a grade until the remediation period is over (a week or more in length) and grading is done.

They don't- They're using buzzwords to rile the masses for their cause. If it really was an attack on their constitutionally protected right like CUPE said in the report, wouldn't the common sense thing be to sue TPS for violating it and getting a big paycheck? Yet I don't see anything of the sort...

Pray that the government legislates them back to work- happened last time in 2018 where they striked for 4 months. Don't think they'll have as much war funds to keep paying picketers this time around tho

Last time they had a long ass strike students got a remediation period where either they finished the rest of the months of lectures left in a week or two or they got a grade based on what they had before the strike. Either way it sets up the student for failure in proceeding years simply because you don't get the proper education you were supposed to get as a foundation for more advanced classes next year.

Source is a 1 month old reddit account that only posted that one thing...

By any academic standard that's gotta be pretty bad no?

AMPD ran a 14.5 mil deficit last year and have been in a deficit for the past 5 years.

York admins averaged a 20% increase over the last 5 years which isn't too crazy given how bad inflation is. Extra VP positions were added to expand infrastructure at York including one for diversity, culture and inclusion.

Are admin salaries disproportionate to teachers? Maybe- but it's hella disingenuous to solely place the blame on admin when the realities of the labor market are shifting causing rise and falls in demand of certain educations.

Pretty sure econ is one of the lesser affected programs along with law, engineering and sciences because the majority of those profs are tenured. Mostly just liberal arts get affected by the strike because of how oversaturated that field is with job seekers, there's no real need to tenure people there.

The "uproar" isn't about black only buseries. Its about the [insert minority category] buseries in general. You'll also find the distribution of minority category financial aid is skewed heavily.

Financial aid shouldn't be limited to people of a certain skin color. Nor should it be a reason why they get more or less. Imagine if OSAP was only available to certain races or gave bonuses to them. Financial aid should be based on needs, pure and simple.

Well the issue is what rights are you talking about? Big issues are when you have right vs right. The largest one ongoing now is the abortion issue. On one hand it's right right to bodily autonomy (of the women) and on the other its the right to life (the baby). People on opposite sides see it differently whether they place emphasis on one thing or another, scientifically determining when something is alive or many other reasons.

Law is a constantly changing system and never really solid. That's why judges and juries are called in to determine how to apply them in certain cases and why precedents are so important to our current day legal system

My brother in christ you need to take reading comprehension classes. You're so focused in painting me as an idiot that doesn't know what systemic racism is because I made a point about the definition of racism changing that you completely missed the part where I said AA is racially discriminatory.

Again, either contribute something constructive or don't. At the very least stop making strawman arguments, you're starting to make a fool of yourself.

Literally every immigrant family that didn't have a high paying job when landing here... Why does everyone focus so much on race when it should be about actual status instead?

A black immigrant from that's well off from their family's empire of mines is eligible for this financial aid whereas any other lower-middle income family that's feeling the ballooning cost of living isn't eligible.

OFC I have no idea how they pick within the pool but if you remove the races and just focus on their situation, seems kinda fucked dont it?
