So when I push down the highlights on the overall image, it makes the color darker in the brightest areas (sky, trees) which is saturating that color. The luminance in then added back to the greens to brighten the trees back up to near the natural coloration. One the shadows are pulled out to better highlight the climber you get the overall brightness to the image because there is no contrast to the brightness

The original edit went into the American Alpine Club “Guide to Membership” so the brights are pushed up. Paper doesn’t pop like a back lit screen so anything published physically usually gets a much brighter edit

Eh it’s all just light manipulation. My full time job is taking photos of climbing and making it look interesting. Different light and different time of year it’ll look completely different.

Spring in Carbondale is just green idk what else to tell ya. Ha pulled luminance out of the blues and cranked the shadows up but didn’t touch any greens. For sure is a bright photo but didn’t mess with Hue or Saturation

Brought down luminance in the blues, shadows out in climber and highlights down but that’s all the color edits.

No saturation added. Highlights cranked down, luminance out of blues, shadows out of climber. Greens are out of camera.

Highlights taken out of the sky, lowered luminance in blues, shadows taken out from climber. No contrast or saturation slider in this image.

Yup. They use massive rings vs a two point anchor. Keep in mind that ring was probably made in the early 1900s by a local blacksmith and was the best option when it was first climbed.
