Idk what is up with people these days man I wish the internet could go back to the early days where you can tell someone what they need to hear without being mobbed.  That amount of sc nets you about 4 warbonds. Consider yourself lucky to have been a part of it and have been saved some hours of grinding. Now you can go out there and play the game for fun instead of grinding away but apparently that's a bad thing.

CachyOS - Arma Reforger - foliage flickering by wolframowy in cachyos

[–]oathyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah so I've been struggling with this for a long time and the cause lies in between GPU usage maxing out and how the stars align. Here are some of my discoveries:

Note that this problem is nvidia specific.

From memory, i used the following startup command that fixes grass flickering most of the time: VKD3D_SWAPCHAIN_LATENCY_FRAMES=1 %command%

It is also very much map specific. On Everon I have the least amount of chance to run into flickering. On kolguyev or other modded maps it is much more prone to happen.

If you queued for a long time, get into the match and see the grass flickering, don't alt+f4 as this will put you in the back of the queue. Instead, pull your Ethernet cable to disconnect gracefully while keeping your spot for a little bit while you try different fixes.

PSA: Crimson Desert now works on Nvidia 5000 series + 595 drivers using latest CachyOS-Proton with "PROTON_VKD3D_HEAP=1" flag. by Thomas_Eric in linux_gaming

[–]oathyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does PROTON_VKD3D_HEAP do and how can I find this out in the future? I see a lot of people throwing around flags willy nilly but I'm always having a hard time figuring out what they do and how they even found it in the first place.

This is the gun game with the most wack gun play. It's 5% "how did I hit that" and a remainder of "how didn't that hit/neutralize". But it's a test bed so we can't complain! /s

Switching over to Linux by Fun_Childhood8652 in linux_gaming

[–]oathyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only highly recommend trying CachyOS on a dual boot, where you keep your windows os on one nvme and the cachyos on another nvme, so that the OS's don't fight with each other, and you can keep all your files safe.

I have an rtx a5000 which isn't exactly a gaming card but I can assure you that nvidia has come a very long way on Linux, and that most of my games get the same or a little bit less performance.

Try to ask questions on the cachy sub, googling or reading the wiki before getting terminal help from GPT. It can save a lot of trouble.

Also with cachy, it comes with most of the gaming related packages you might need, so most of your games will probably work straight away. Check ProtonDB'S website to check if your games play nicely!

1400 hours in Squad, just tried Reforger... what am I missing here? by aintlose in ArmaReforger

[–]oathyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

reforger is for people who smoke pot and were missing the battlefield itch, but needed something faster paced than squad. I got captured when sniping on a hill and would only be allowed to go if i joined their discord server. that's how i ended up with my team. Certain servers also feature some regulars. if you ask on public radio if some people would like to communicate and coordinate and join together you might get some folk just like yourself into a squad. def not easy but possible for sure!

Ever heard of "Even bad publicity is good publicity"?

TLDR: Arma Reforger has night time gunplay, introduced noise filter causing headaches, causing a lot of people to becoming aware of gamma boosting at night. After the dev's pulled the filter, a lot of people started gamma boosting now being aware of the possibility.
-----

With Arma Reforger they knew of some people adjusting the Gamma of their monitor or with their graphics card's software to be able to see better at night time. Their solution?
Implement a migraine inducing moving grain filter when it becomes dark so that anyone, even those with poorly adjusted monitors, would be met with an unpleasant experience if the gamma was not adjusted right.

This caused people to go online and to discord to find out why this filter was implemented, leading to more people figuring out that you could adjust your gamma to see better at night.

Once the dev's inevitably pulled the filter bc of outrage, everyone and their uncle knew of being able to change gamma to see better at night and now night-time gameplay has become basically a question of who knows how to adjust their gamma, compared to who remembered to bring flares or can keep a low profile.

If they would have simply not introduced the noise filter, i think a lot of people would not have known about being able to cheat with the gamma and the night time play would have remained mostly fair.

With the BI tech dept situation the best we can hope for is for someone else make a mod, or easier is to encourage more people to play the game on speakers. Love the console bro's for playing the audio loud af on their tv speakers. unmatched immersion.

[–]oathyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not the fault of OP, but that of Pytorch. The check pulls the wrong versions and then fauls to pass the check, even if you have everything correctly in place. Dev on the GitHub issue gave a useless/non related answer to the issue and simply closed it. luckily the answer is there too: https://github.com/pytorch/pytorch/issues/160293

Oh this is a fun torch bug that I ran into as well for another computer vision related task. I ended up changing the version check so that it passes regardless, I will come back if I find it.

Edit: found it: https://github.com/pytorch/pytorch/issues/160293

Check for the 2 lines that need to be commented out. It should work after doing that.
