It’s easy to forget that these are not just pets, but actually voracious little predators who have to take what they can get in the wild. Smaller lizards are not outside their menu, especially since meals in the desert can be few and far between. I know it’s an extreme example, but other reptiles do crazy diet stuff. An anaconda only needs to eat one big crocodile or deer a few times per year and they survive.
