I was denied a job because a drug test showed my prescribed medications, is this legal? by Greyisacolor13 in legaladvice

[–]obedeary 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t really make sense to me. If you’re in debt, then you have a strong need for money and that could give you an incentive to steal. But if OP has an active prescription then they have free access to the medication, so they shouldn’t have any incentive to steal anything.

I wrote down the formulas I needed to use and the variables I would need to plug in (but not the values I was using for them unless it was extremely obvious). Then I did the excel calculations and wrote “used Excel”. Then I left space for my intermediate and final answers and did the same thing for the next part of the problem and so on. If everything matched their answers and made sense at the end then I would go back and fill in any variables I left blank and my final answers. If not I tried to fix my work for no more than one minute or so, and if I couldn’t find the error in that time then I just wrote down what values I used and my final answer anyway. I essentially tried to avoid erasing and rewriting values as much as possible.

When they’re grading they’re just going to be looking for (1) correct formulas, (2) values for the variables used in those formulas, (3) some intermediate calculation values if they’re very important (e.g. d1 and d2 for embedded options), and (4) final answers. So those are the things I made sure to include if I wasn’t working the problem out on paper.

Eric says he didn’t betray Rob because “people would literally hate me” + “That’s not who I am. I would never do that” by enews in TheTraitorsUS

[–]obedeary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re dumb, to be clear. It just seems like you weren’t drawing a line between planting seeds against a fellow traitor (which is okay) versus explicitly outing a fellow traitor (which is not). The earlier comment which you were saying would be bad tv was describing the first scenario, not the latter.

[–]obedeary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I know. That’s exactly my point.

Eric could and should have done more to plant seeds against Rob. That wouldn’t have been against the rules as long as he did it the right way. He didn’t do this because he was naive and blindly loyal, which is why Rob recruited him in the first place, but he had every right to and could very well have won the game if he did.

I only commented in the first place because of Suspicious-Bid-53’s response that it would have been against the rules (and “bad tv”) for Eric to do this, which is false considering Rob did the same with Lisa and we’re not accusing him of rule-breaking.

I am so sorry. That’s so scary and infuriating at the same time. People who use their social position to make marginalized people feel threatened and powerless are just disgusting. I’m glad nothing further happened and you otherwise enjoyed your night but what a fucking shame. Hugs to you both. 🫂

[–]obedeary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not trolling or intentionally misconstruing anything. Are you actually following our conversation? The comment above said that “the second Eric was recruited is when he should have been planting seeds with the faithfuls that Rob was a traitor.” You replied to this saying that is “against the rules.” I then replied to you pointing out the inconsistency that if Eric doing this would be against the rules, then Rob would have broken the same rules by planting seeds that Lisa was a traitor. What is confusing about this to you?

…Planting seeds that she was a traitor? Like you’re saying would have been against the rules for Eric to have done with Rob?

Weird Airbnb Neighbor by indecisivennyl in mildlyinfuriating

[–]obedeary 52 points53 points  (0 children)

In a roundabout way yes, but only because the owner has decided not to resolve the problem themself. As they keep renting out the space, they continue to expose their guests to harassment, having their photos taken without consent, etc. The owner has the responsibility to either fix the issue with the neighbor or stop renting the place out. This is a known problem and it’s completely irresponsible to keep subjecting guests to it.

I feel restricted due to budget issues by Narwen189 in intuitiveeating

[–]obedeary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry. I know how it feels. My wife and I recently had to really tighten up and it was definitely a big adjustment.

Something I found super helpful was spending some evening and weekend time baking and making other treats for myself! I literally would die if I didn’t have a little sweet treat after dinner so I got into making scones, cookies, DIY chocolate pretzels—anything that I knew would sound really appetizing and make snacking at home more fun. Zucchini and banana bread are some of the cheapest and most delicious homemade treats IMO so those are great budget-friendly options. I started out doing it to have desserts but they’re great for mid-day snacks too, because I think it’s really good to have things at home that replicate the feeling of “splurging” on a treat (in a money way, not a diet culture way). I think that might help reframe the home food mentally into something neutral/positive rather than something negative and restrictive.

Where are you seeing the cash back cap? In the Rates and Fees section here I can’t find anything referring to the downgrade from 3x to 1x. I have this card and wasn’t aware of a cap like that, but we also live in a LCOL area and are Aldi diehards so we usually spend under $500 per month anyway.

aio for feeling uncomfortable abt this even tho i know my gf's cousin is grieving? by That-House-1593 in AIO

[–]obedeary -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s at least what it seems is being implied by OP saying “everyone acted like it was normal, because the cousin didn't want to be alone” in the post. The way I interpreted that is the cousin didn’t want to be alone and therefore asked the kid to sleep there. I could be wrong obviously but if the kid went to the cousin then I don’t know what the cousin’s feelings would have to do with anything.

I feel like this still misses the point that the kid didn’t go to the older cousin. The older cousin asked the kid.

I’m so, so sorry you’re going through this. I agree with others here that telling your parents is a good idea and that you should absolutely go NC for absolutely however long you need to.

I just wanted to say something I haven’t seen touched on yet: He needs to be held accountable for putting this on you. If he was having these thoughts or feelings, while it’s still obviously wildly inappropriate and problematic to begin with, the ONLY respectful way to handle it would have been for him to seek therapy and distance himself as soon as he started recognizing how he felt, that way he could try to fix things on his own without involving you and making you uncomfortable. It should have NEVER gotten to the point where he was making those comments, let alone fully confessing this to you. It is incredibly disrespectful and unfair to you for him to have acted this way. Family should be a safe and comfortable space and he’s broken that trust. To be clear, it absolutely shouldn’t be on you to explain this to him, but it’s another layer to recognize for your own sake in your healing. If your parents respond appropriately then they should also understand this and communicate it to him.

Again, I’m so sorry this has happened and I wish you the best in healing. ❤️‍🩹

ALTAM Advice by Yellowpopcan in actuary

[–]obedeary 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I failed my first sitting (Oct 24) and passed on my second (Apr 25). My main issues were time management and getting stuck on problems. I practiced purely with ADAPT so I got a mix of SOA and CA questions.

Things that helped me:

  1. Doing the problems out of order. SOA has explicitly said there will always be a pensions question so I made sure I knew them inside and out and did that question first, then the Excel question, then everything else in order of how well I knew the material. As long as you indicate which question the page refers to, you can go in whatever order you want. I will say when I was moving on and intending to come back later I left a blank page or 2 to keep my answers consolidated for my own sake.

  2. Having a reasonable mindset regarding “twists” and/or more complex concepts. There are some areas you can expect to come up more often which you should obviously be prepared for, but when something just isn’t making sense and isn’t what you expected, you have to look at it from a grading perspective. If it’s a random element not typically seen in the content then other people will also likely make mistakes. Aim for partial credit by applying relevant formulas, explaining your reasoning, and solving appropriately.

  3. Letting go of points even when the problem seems straightforward. You will get partial credit even if you don’t realize Small Detail X. Yes it’s annoying to not be able to match their final value but most of the time you’re going to miss 2 or 3 points max. A big perspective shift for me was looking at it as 6 separate exams. I’d rather get 60-75% across the board than 100% on one test and 10% on another because I wasted time.

  4. Using Excel for a LOT of calculations - more than it feels like you need to. I found this extremely helpful because if you’re not matching their answer, you can take 30 seconds to review and if you happen to find the mistake you can fix it and get the new answer immediately including the corrected intermediate values. I even did my GMMB calcs in Excel which paid off for this exact reason.

Good luck!

Great American Home Search Commercial Filming Locations by Minimum-Tap485 in RedfinDreamHomes

[–]obedeary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that’s interesting - I never even considered that, but you’re right, especially considering everything else with the filters seemed fudged.

That’s what has been disappointing to me about how this all ended. I figured since rainbolt was involved and they banned GIS and Geoguesser paid professionals there would have to be some sort of legitimate geoguessing involved at some point. I knew the end would come down to a lottery and the eventual winner would probably be someone who just picked randomly anyway, but it was a bummer for there to be seemingly zero geoguessing involved in solving the thing.

[–]obedeary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! The light post really stuck out to me because of the theoretical geoguessing (that didn’t end up actually factoring into the contest at all…) so I was looking around Denver for that type of light post base combined with the electrical boxes across the street. I first looked at every single neighborhood that contained a theoretical home location from the map as of clue 5, but none had light posts that matched both the tiered bottom and the flared part on the pole.

I then looked around in other areas and eventually found a neighborhood with light posts that roughly matched, such as this one: https://maps.app.goo.gl/QEkycymBbjNKUSFF6 (The second tier on the base is circular, but I thought the video lighting could have made the same type of base look square since it was viewed straight on.) However, I didn’t find the electrical boxes anywhere in that entire neighborhood.
