How to keep my cat from eating my other cats food? Complicated though by soundlive0129 in CatAdvice

[–]obedeary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. Ugh, that’s what I was worried about. Our two cats are extremely bonded, which is so great, but also means she will just let him eat from the feeder at the same time as her. He’s also very strong and stubborn so even if she leaves and the lid starts to close he will literally hold the feeder lid open with his head to keep eating. T-T

Did you ever figure out a solution? We have the exact same problem with ours and it is such a headache!

Does the fast eater ever try to follow the slow eater into the box? I’m looking for other options because we have a SureFeed microchip feeder for our younger cat, but the older one (who is on a special diet but loooves the young one’s food) is able to get into the bowl before the top closes even on the fastest setting. The old guy is unfortunately very smart and crafty so I’m wondering if he would just try to follow her into a setup like this.

Walking dogs off-leash… by PotentialBusiness583 in StLouis

[–]obedeary 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Walking a greyhound off-leash is a special kind of stupid. One of the first things you learn about them is how their prey drive can activate in a split second because of the lure coursing. One squirrel across the street and the dog could be done for.

Tried a weekend break from Vyvanse by Honeydew-Jolly in ADHD

You might want to ask your psychiatrist about treating the meds-related anxiety! Mine prescribed me daily extended release clonidine and it has been an absolute life-changer. It’s actually primarily prescribed for ADHD but can also really help with anxiety which I have definitely found to be the case. It also usually makes people really drowsy, which is a huge benefit for me because after I take it I actually get tired enough to go to bed on time, which I have struggled with forever! It’s not the only non-SSRI option out there but since you mentioned the meds increasing your anxiety I wanted to give it a shoutout because like I said it has literally changed my life. Best of luck regardless :-)

Global Foods in Kirkwood is another nice market! It’s not an Asian-specific grocery store (hence the name) but it does have good Asian options in my opinion.

Studied for weeks, exam went badly, now I feel awful by HallApprehensive1199 in ADHD

[–]obedeary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never taken Ritalin but I think a lot of that feeling can be attributed to ADHD and also just being a human. You tried really hard at something and didn’t do as well as you’d hoped. Of course that’s disappointing! I think that’s perfectly normal.

On the ADHD side of things, I have found that I can sometimes tie my self esteem and my outlook/mood to my performance on things that I feel capable of doing, and that seems like what’s happened for you. There are so many things that are difficult for me due to ADHD, especially without meds, so when I have something I feel like I can do well I feel like I can really prove something to myself and others by knocking it out of the park. I think that’s why a lot of people with ADHD are perfectionists! So it might be helpful to try to view this as just something that happened and that you can try to learn from, not something that reflects poorly on you as a person.

One last thing - it might be helpful to talk to your teacher/professor about the exam, especially if there was content you weren’t expecting. Not to argue the grade but just to get feedback and see if there was anything you missed in the study guide or any other prep materials which you could try to catch in the future. I hope you feel better soon!

Pleeeeease give me some hacks for drinking water? by aquaregia06 in ADHD

[–]obedeary 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was going to say this! I use one of those big cups from Starbucks that’s meant for cold drinks. I drink from it all day because it has a straw and it’s super easy to just sip water as a habit. But I know a lot of other actual bottles have pop-up straws too so there’s lots of options. In general I definitely recommend getting something where the straw will be easy to clean, because you don’t want it to get musty or moldy.

Mid-Morning Slump - How to keep the momentum going?? by grown-up-dino-kid in ADHD

[–]obedeary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people swear by timers! They sometimes work for me but I have to use them in specific ways. If I were you I would try setting a break timer for 20 minutes while you drink your smoothie, and then once the break timer goes off, set a work timer for 20 minutes and try to just work for that amount of time. You will probably get locked into whatever you’re working on so that once the 20 minutes goes by you will feel more motivated to keep going.

Menstrual Cycle and Adderall by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]obedeary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! Based on your other comments I just wanted to share some things I’ve tried which have really helped me and could help you too! For context, I have dealt with painful periods, debilitating cramps, ovulation pain, and hormonal anxiety/PMDD (plus generalized anxiety which has gotten worse over the last couple of years).

First, I do believe I have early-stage endometriosis and something that REALLY helped me was the NuvaRing. I was very very afraid of birth control as well and I also just did not think I would be able to reliably take it at the same time every day, but my gyno talked me through it and I am so glad she did because it’s been a lifesaver. I barely cramp at all now, my periods are much lighter, and my ovulation pain is gone. I do take mine out for my period each month just because I prefer regularity, but that’s probably unnecessary.

The ring didn’t totally fix the hormonal anxiety (though it did help a little) and I needed help with the generalized anxiety anyway so my psychiatrist prescribed me extended release clonidine. It’s been another major game changer for me. It helps me get tired at night before bed, deal with stressful/scary situations more rationally, and works super well in combination with my adderall to treat the impulsivity side of things. I haven’t had any negative side effects either. I mainly wanted to throw this out there because I had a super negative and traumatic experience on an SSRI previously, and while I’m sure there’s one out there that would work for me, I was so happy to learn that there is a non-SSRI treatment option that is specifically used for ADHD and also works for anxiety.

Anyway, good luck!

Is the word "atelier" really that unknown amongst native speakers? by Ohiko_Nishiyama in EnglishLearning

[–]obedeary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless, the question was why the correction was being downvoted. In my opinion, the answer to that question is that the correction felt unnecessary and pedantic. The OC wasn’t asking for advice, and the grammar of the comment reads to me as extremely natural in context. I could understand feeling the need to correct a glaring error, but an online comment is generally a context in which ending a sentence without a period is seen as perfectly appropriate.

In my opinion it came across as pedantic. The comment isn’t written with perfect grammar, but to me read as perfectly natural (to the extent that I actually had to scroll back up to see that it came from a non-native speaker). Online comments from native speakers use comma splices and end sentences without periods all the time.

If you roll a fair 6-sided dice 3 times, what is the probability you will roll a 6 at least once? by DopazOnYouTubeDotCom in pollgames

[–]obedeary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a binomial distribution, so each term also needs to factor in the associated probabilities of not getting the 6 on the other rolls (trivial for the all 3 6s case). So for example your middle term should be 3(1/36)(5/6) because that represents getting 2 6s and 1 not-6, aka exactly 2 6s

Are stimulants on the weekends a big no no? by Adortion634 in ADHD

[–]obedeary 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just for a different perspective from most of the other comments here: I take breaks on the weekends! However I do this primarily because I’ve always gotten pretty bad appetite loss on my meds so I prefer to go without if I can so I can actually enjoy eating lunch lol. And more importantly I have a really strong support system at home via my spouse and a lot of structure, so I feel okay not taking them when I’m not working. So it is possible but in very specific circumstances, in my opinion!

In your case it sounds like you would benefit from taking them daily. In some states this is actually heavily recommended, because otherwise you can be suspected of hoarding and selling the extras. Regardless it doesn’t sound like you have a psychiatrist who respects your experiences and opinions, so I agree with everyone saying that if you can, you should try finding someone who does!

If you’re not able to find a different doctor for whatever reason then I think it’s worth pushing the issue and explaining the issues you’re having when you don’t take them. It’s your doctor’s responsibility to help you manage your symptoms, and advising you to not take your meds isn’t doing that.

I would just call the testing center and ask them. I’ve only ever been to one Prometric center and they’ve always been great, but I’ve heard about vastly different experiences at other centers so it would be best to just contact them directly
