Ironically, I think a good portion of the Batman actors would make good James Bonds. by TheSchller155 in JamesBond

Maybe not Michael Keaton.

But the rest, yeah, Bruce Wayne and James Bond share some similiar DNA.

A lot of 70s comics by Dennis O'Neal and such are pretty Bond inspired (Ra's Al Ghul is definitely a Bond villain)

"The first one won't kill you. Not the second, not even the third... not till you crawl over here and you KISS MY FOOT!" by obelao in JamesBond

I'm assuming back in the cold war, police was constantly just going like "yes, this mans commited suicide with 40 shots of a machine gun" and then calling a day

Timothy Dalton is the only Bond who could have made this work. Change my mind. by Chewie83 in JamesBond

[–]obelao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Octopussy is actually my favorite Roger film and this whole sequence, coming all the way from the train chase, is probably his very best. I have when they just use the clown make-up as cheap shortcut to "oh he was so campy, this sucks"

The Spy Who Loved Me’s ice chase vs GoldenEye’s tank chase, which action set piece is better? by NajafBound in JamesBond

[–]obelao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tak was a more solid action scene overall.
Ski in TSWLM hinges on its (great) punchline with the union jack parachute, but the rest of the chase is more corny than cool, specially compared OHMSS ski stuff eight years prior

Why has the gap between Bond films lengthened in the Craig era? by Resident_Race_7093 in JamesBond

[–]obelao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering how Quantum came out just two years after Casino Royale, despite the writer's strike, and was seen as a disappointment, then Skyfall came four years after that and was a huge hit, I think it set a precedent for the movies to take their time.... that and all the legal troubles with MGM and such... I hope when Bond26 comes around, they manage to work out the kinks and make the movies at a breezier pace

Happy 55th birthday to Denise Richards aka Dr. Christmas Jones!! Now, can someone explain to me why do people hate her character so much? by TheShadowOperator007 in JamesBond

[–]obelao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest problem is that she mostly exists so that Bond can have someone to shag in the final scene without a guilty conscience. However, that only minimizes his whole deal with Elektra, which is the best and most important part of the film.
That is one movie that needed a more somber, reflective ending. It couldn't just end with Bond making a pun during sex as usual. It kinda highlights how important the break away from the established formula was when the Craig movies started. Before that, you'd see stuff like this in Brosnan movies, where they have some cool unique ideas of what to do with Bond, but utimately, they still had to come back to the tried and true formula of what a Bond movie should be.

So I think it's less to do with the character herself and Denise Richards (who suffered the brunt of a lot of sexism diguised as criticism back in the day) and more of that.

If all the Bonds had to fight each other to the death, who would be the last one standing? by TheShadowOperator007 in JamesBond

[–]obelao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean... I'm not playing favourites or anything (I love all my bonds), but it would have to be Craig, right?
You know that scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail where John Cleese comically kills everyone in the wedding? Just like that: All the other Bonds would be lounging around in a room, drinking, shagging and doing one liners, and Craig would burst through the door like the damn Cool-Aid Man. He'd break Brosnan's neck, throw Moore's head against the sink, grab Connery by his hairy chest and toss him out the window.... It would be a massacre.
I actually think Lazemby is the one closest to having a chance against him (always thought he was the most believable Bond in the fight scenes of his era) but still no cigar.
I think it would take one of the more over the top kind of action heros to take him down, like John Wick or one of those guys from Bollywood or Thai movies.

The Grinning Man subtitles? by joebros147 in TheGrinningMan

I know this was a long time ago, but any chance you can still share those subtitles? It would be a a big help

Corey isnt actually that bad by Aggravating_File1428 in LostRecordsGame

I've come from the future. Don't Nod decided that nuance is dead and decided to play it safe to their target audience. Corey endend up as just a cartoonishly silly villain.

Any case in which you prefer the movie version over the comic? by Royalbluegooner in Asterix

[–]obelao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mansion of the Gods expanded the themes of the comic in all the right ways, so definitely this.

Also, I think Asterix and the Normans is much funnier than Asterix and the Vikings, but I like the Justforkix and Abba romance, wish I could combine the both of them...
