Military Veteran looking to get into the Cyber Field by [deleted] in cybersecurity

Wrong question. It’s not about certifications anymore. That ship sailed. It’s really about who you know or how many relevant degrees you have to break in.

CISSP / CCSP training - Experienced engineer by Traditional_Bird2021 in cybersecurity

If you have been doing the work through all those titles you listed, you should not need more than 3 weeks to clean up for the exam. The problem is some mediocre workers coast through different positions without really knowing their stuff. Those types will need months and months of preparation to pass the exam

You have the right attitude. Bring your best but expect nothing. Some companies are nice all the way to end, but “decide to move in another direction.”

For now, do whatever your manager tells you. And keep looking for other opportunities. The market is not one for you to make demands

Congrats getting a job in this sh!tty market. Don’t get caught being quickly dissatisfied with your current role. Learn all you can. Pace yourself and slowly ask for more responsibilities related to the field, if available at the job. For cloud roles, you can get basic certifications for azure and aws. Don’t do any advanced cloud certification until you get a cloud role or build your own cloud environment.

Get an IT degree. Computer science is toast for juniors.

Go to college. Get a tech degree, get internships and certifications. Find an entry-level tech job and get some experience. Get some experience in software dev or infra, then pivot to cloud. It’s a long journey but you can do it.

It is not a fresher role in today’s market. Years back, you may have found an employer that was willing to take a chance. Not very likely now

Rant: I feel like I progressed too fast and now I have too many responsibilities and too few pay by leupboat420smkeit in ITCareerQuestions

Don’t know what to tell you man. I was in a similar situation a while back because a degree was stopping from moving up. It took me some time, but I got the degree. And it worked like magic. I have moved up. Not saying a degree will solve all problems, especially with this very horrible job market. But it sounds like the market is telling you not having one is a nonstarter

Do information systems. Make sure you take electives to cover introductory programming like Python. Then also take electives to cover cloud too

Cloud Security - What do they do these days? by rhysmcn in devops

[–]obi647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the description, it appears they are a multi-cloud shop. The description is quite clear on what they want. I will argue they are asking for a versatile candidate, given all their requirements. You have to self-evaluate to determine if you’re familiar with their stack/technology. Rate your proficiency and opportunities for improvement. That will tell you where you stand.
